Do you still have your 360 HD-DVD player connected?

Sure I've got a bunch of movies for it that I picked up cheap and I see no reason why I should buy them again on Blu-ray.
Stuff like Bladerunner, Matrix Trilogy and Bourne Trilogy cost me only a few quid, then there's Lost in Translation which looks to be a long way away from being released on Blu.

I use my 360 HD-DVD drive all of the time, but not to play stuff on the 360. It actually makes for a fantastic external PC drive, and I can read all my backups on it when no other dvd will. Kind of a silly reason to buy one, but I've gotten a lot of practical use out of it.

I've always been intrigued by this - could I plug it into my laptop and play HD-DVDs on that too?

Yep. Still hooked up, with two spare drives ($30 each) in the cupboard. I have a huge stack of HD-DVD movies that I got for $2 each when Blu-Ray won. Thanks, Blu-Ray!

Yes . Last HD-DVD movie I watched was The Big Lebowski , two weeks ago .
Still have 3 or 4 movies I yet to watch too .

And even more blurays :(

Yeah, I still use it as a DVD player. That way I don't have to remove my current game disc from the main drive.

Got mine on clearance for like $10 at Kmart. It's still hooked up, but I haven't used it in months. I mainly keep it hooked up as it adds an extra USB port for my wired Rockband instruments.

First tragedy, then farce.
I sold mine for about 100 bucks with a film right before warner announced.

I used that money to buy a Samsung dual format player that was supposed to do BD Live and BD+. They never bothered to upgrade the piece of shit to actually be compatible with the added bluray features because they are a bunch of fuckwits.

But it still plays all my blurays and HDDVDs.

Were HDDVDs region-free?

I bought one when they were practically giving them away, but the only thing I've ever watched on it is Blade Runner.

i bought mine when they were $199 :( and yes its still connected. I gotta get my moneys worth still. I thought for sure HD-DVD was gonna kill blu ray.

Even cheap I wouldn't buy one even though it had movies I wanted. Basically it forces you to have a 360 and the addon to play it all for a long time as nothing is going to be backwards compatible with it in the future.

Mine's hooked up to my 360 S, but on a separate shelf, so it doesn't look so bizarre sitting next to it.

I mainly leave it connected to reduce swapping games for DVDs.

I'm also one of the ones sitting on an extra I bought for $50 when it lost the fight. I've got about 10 HD-DVDs I'm sitting on, and throw them in every once in a while, but use it as a DVD player most every week.

I use it as my dedicated DVD player. Works great!

Yeah, that's what I did as a precaution to prevent the old 360 from using the disc drive so much. Now I just have it next to my 360 250GB and use it as a DVD player so I can keep a game in my 360.

I have it but it's not connected. Sadly spent $170 or so on it and bought a load of HD DVDs.. I did do the Warners exchange thing and got like 8-10 BRD out of it for $5 each. Unfortunately I had bought the HD DVDs at or near full price so it wasn't a huge savings like many people probably got out of it.

Oh well, what can ya do.

I have my 360 HD DVD drive available for use but my main HD DVD player is my A35; sadly, the most "recent" firmware update for the A35 caused more problems than it fixed and I have yet to downgrade. The 360 player has never given me a problem.

I took advantage of the Warner Bros. Red2Blu program but I still have probably 50-60+ HD DVD titles. To be honest though, most of our movie watching is now from Zune Marketplace and/or Netflix, I just use the zune software to download the movie and tv purchases to my external hdd. 360 Media Center plays them all without issue the 360 Video player, however, plays my movies without issue but stored tv shows I have yet to successfully watch from the Video Player but obviously can watch them from the Marketplace or, as I said, Media Center.

EDIT: I should add I was an earlier adopter and paid full price. I also owned D-VHS so the cost didn't bother me compared to the cost of only a couple D-VHS movies now those were EXPENSIVE!

Oh, I didn't know Lost in Translation was exclusive to HD-DVD. I'm sure there is a list out there with all the exclusives movies. Oddly there tends to be a lot of really good quality ones that still aren't out on Blu-ray.

You betchyer ass I still have mine hooked up. Like many here, I amassed a handy collection due to the clearance sales. Also picked up Planet Earth for free due to a customer service issue, heh.

Doubles as a great external DVD drive for lappys and netbooks.

The best part is that I price matched mine for $40 and they were giving out $50 gift cards at the time for any HD-DVD player purchase, so I basically got paid to take one home. :lol

I sold mine to pay for my Dualshock 3, but now I'm eying them again on eBay since it could be a good cheap external DVD drive.

Cool! Someone else with a D-VHS player. :lol

I need to see my copy of True Lies on DVHS. Can't believe it hasn't been released on Blu-ray yet.

No but I got my integrated low cost but high quality Blu-Ray Disc player in my PS3 :D

Yeah, I have one of those too and I buy new stuff like LIFE on it but for any older movie I always look for the HD-DVD version first since it's the exact same quality as Blu-ray but 1/8th of the cost. And as pointed out, there are a lot of really good movies that aren't on Blu-ray yet and can only be watched in HD through an HD-DVD player.

Yup I have mine connected, I don't really use it anymore but I am not unplugging it but when I buy a new 360, I probably will pick up another hd-dvd drive.

Matter of fact, I am.

Still got a stack of red disc boxes right out on the coffee table there, too. Top Gun, Hot Fuzz, Transformers, 300, Goodfellas, and Casablanca.

I have two PS3s and a good many Blu-rays, but HD-DVD still gets some play at my house.
