Do you think Metal Gear is an ideology?

The very first radio conversation you have with the Boss, she literally says

TODAYS FRIENDS MAY BE TOMORROW'S ENEMIES

MGS3 is absolutely not more subtle than the other games in the series imo.

You're not wrong, but to me it didn't stand out quite as much as in the other games. But I concede I may be more willing to overlook some of MGS3's shortcomings because I adore that game.

And even then people didn't understood what MGS2 was about. Go figure.

I can understand that because the game deliberately overloads the player with information towards the end and recontextualizes the entire game's plot like 3 times within an hour. Also all the lore stuff is so incredibly dense. I maintain that MGS2 never should have had a direct sequel because it "forced" Kojima to actually roll with all the nonsense he made up for MGS2, the patriots and all that, when I sincerely doubt he intended to have to do that. Remember he insisted at the time MGS2 would be his last MGS (lol).

The better question is who does NOT believe it is an ideology? I mean come on.

RIGHT?!

Yeah he never planned on making a sequel to 2. He was "forced" to make MGS3 so he he made it a prequel and he planned on making it a trilogy ending there. Then when MGS4 was getting made he got so many death treats he had to come back and he came up with a bunch of nonsense to fill plot holes in MGS2 that were never meant to be explained.

There's some people though that think he had this grand plan for the plot after 2 lol.

I feel like everyone is making this franchise way to big than what it is. Its not a deep game, it just a crazy anime with a soldier.

OP, something happened to me last Thursday when I was driving home. I had a couple of miles to go -- I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky, to the east! It was moving very irregularly... Suddenly, there was intense light all around me -- and when I came to, I was home. What do you think happened to me...?

Honestly, though OP, you have played the game for a long time. Don't you have anything else to do with your time?

Honestly I think MGS4 was Kojima flipping a bird to his art and giving the fanboys what they want, an ending to the lore. You pretty much have to toss out the artistry of MGS2 if you put it in the context of 4.

For fucks sake, Meryl ended up with Johnny Sasaki. That is Kojima giving up after MGS2 was practically rejected by the fans. Still love 4 though.

Tagged appropriately.

That's his stock-in-trade. Subtlety aint in the guy's dictionary. Every game ends with a long rant (or several) that pretty much turn all of the game's subtext into text so as to make sure the viewer understands. MGS3 is the least offensive in this regard (and that's why it's the best MGS game).

MGS games aren't profound, they just spell out all their themes so the player doesn't have to do any interpretation beyond Literature 101 stuff. The series has completely jumped up its own ass wrt to its fascination with its own mythos (or lore) too, from MGS4 and onwards especially.

Actually it is, just that he also holds bombasticism in equal reverence. Same with war: loves military tech and life (the Athena of war), hates the destruction and domination of war (the Ares of war), the same with information, the same with technology, the same with meta vs lore narrative, same with authority, the same with his wearied disdain for making yet another MG vs his intricate care for details and scope in each of those. Kojima IS balanced opposites.

In so far as Hideo Kojima is a human being with his own ideological principles that he tends to express through his games? I mean, yeah, sure.

I love most of his games, too-- and a lot of the ideas contained within! But letting the body of a single creator's work define your own ideology is pretty extreme.

Not for any Nation, Not For Any Ideology, Not For Justice, Not For Honor, Not for power, Not for the future, Not for Peace, Not For Love.

Only for Revenge.

MGS IS LIFE.

Batzi? more like Batzhit insane amrigiht?

...Ahem... Joking aside...

No, I don't think it's an ideology. I think it's Kojima's cursed fate to forever make Metal Gear Solid sequels. Which is a shame, the series should have stopped with MGS4:GotP. They should have rebooted series rather than continually make games with Big Boss. I mean the Series is called Metal Gear SOLID, yet Solid Snake was the star for about 2 1/2 of them.

Honestly, I would love to see what else the man could do, new IP wise. He has to be cooking up something amazing that doesn't involve Metal Gear.
