Kojima is so sweet and sincere, so gentle and humble that you can't begrudge him for his self-indulgent auteur sensibility. If anything, it makes me appreciate his unusual storytelling more as a sign of a nice guy just being himself and telling the tale he wants to tell in relatively unfiltered fashion.

That being said, many of the MGS4 cutscenes really tested my patience.

Kojima is not subtle for sure and I understand the importance of subtlety as some random person on the internet once put it let your audience chew on what you've created rather than forcing it down their throats.

He's definitely preachy in that regard but it still somehow works. I guess being preachy isn't that bad if you have one heck of a compelling argument which I generally feel the Metal Gear games with the preceding of events and character arcs of each singular game, make the final speeches alright because they are they do feel like truth once you get to the end.

Probably not ideal but ...well what can I say, I still love them

Yes, polygonal. Solid is the transition from 'flat' sprites to 'solid' polygons.

Metal Gear Solid 1 was pretty good.

Metal Gear Solid 2 was massively disappointing.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is one of the worst games I've ever played.

Also, it's not an ideology, just a really inconsistent, self-indulgent video game franchise.

I can't think of anything else with mainstream popularity that covers everything that it does with the boldness and depth that it does. It may well be the premier commentary on the ethos of modern war and civil progress in all media. Not to say better hasn't been done (and I only presume, still looking) but it hasn't been significantly recognized.
