Never really payed attention to gaming sales after xmas...

Was just wondering if they are traditionally as good as the before xmas sales (which have been pretty damn good this year) and how soon after xmas they usually occur?

Hell yes, there will be. Start looking for the overlooked games (especially in the wake of Halo 2 and GTA:SA cannabilizing the charts) as early as January. This is exactly what happened with BG&E and Prince of Persia last year.
