Maybe someone can put these to better use than I can since I can only think of a caption for Amy. Also, I only realized that they should probably be resized after uploading them.

Great episode. Probably the best so far in this second half of the season. Saw the ending twist coming a mile away as I'm sure they've touched on paradoxes like this in Who before and said it couldn't work. I didn't think that they'd have to choose though, I figured she'd get killed on the way back to the TARDIS.

I don't think the Doctor was being a dick either - it was realistic and the best choice for all parties involved. It was a hard choice to make, yes, but it was the only solution really. Unfortunately for him he had to be the one to make Rory do it.

I'm not sure I would say the Doctor was a dick in this one. He simply had to remove himself from the situation emotionally and make the best decision for Amy and Rory. The decision he knew they couldn't make themselves. I'm not sure that makes him a dick in my eyes, it just exemplifies the burden of being a time lord.
It was kind of a dick move lying to old Amy to get her to help when he knew all along he would leave her behind.

It was, but if he hadn't been so deceptive Old Amy's self-destructiveness and stubbornness would have killed an Amy in two timelines and Rory.
Rule one: The Doctor lies.

I mean, if it makes you feel any better, now she never existed!

Still, that was kinda a dick move.

One of the best episodes this season. I'd rank it a small chip below to The Doctor's Wife (best of the season).

It was a very emotional episode, and clearly focused on Rory and Amy. It's nice having the Doctor in the background once in a while. The ending was so sad. Feels sad man.

The Doctor really needs to be a complete dick sometimes to save people. And that look he gives to the camera right before it ends, oh boy.

As for this being "Rory's choice," clearly he wanted to save both, because both were Amy. The Doctor was the one that basically made him choose one or the other (even though there would be a paradox if he didn't).
Rory is the best "human" out of all of them. He genuinely cares. But man, the pain the Doctor regularly puts Rory through. Sure, Amy had to endure pain this week, but that pain was wiped out of existence.

Yeah, regardless of the Doctor's manipulation, Rory and Old Amy could have still made the (wrong) choice. They didn't because both are strong. We already knew Rory was, but I liked that the episode showed how strong Amy could be too. I feel like a lot of the time in series 5 and 6 she's the damsel or whatever, but in this she (or an old version of her, still Amy) made a hard choice to erase her existence to prevent a time paradox and ensure that Rory and OG Amy could live happily. Good stuff.

They essentially killed Old Amy so that they could save the one they prefered. Is River going to get similar treatment so that the Ponds can have their baby?

I think I liked this episode if only because it gave Amy and Rory a chance to act for once (and they weren't bad!).

The overall aesthetic was also much stronger than NuWho has typically presented.

Amy was mad about waiting 36 (or was it 34. Dont remember.) years for Rory. Rory waited over 2000 years. Amy needs to suck it up.

Fantastic episode though. Loved the design of everything, and Rory had some fantastic moments in it.

"My two wives!" (double thumbs up)

Dunno where I would rank it for the season, but it was a very strong one. Doctor's Wife is the best by a country mile, but there are so many strong episodes this season.

That would be a mindfuck. It would make it so none of River's episodes ever happened. Have any of River's episodes been 'fixed points in time?' I doubt they would do it, though.

I saw someone actually make a point about this. Rory waited 2000 years, but he knew at the end of it Amy was going to be free and he'd see her again. Plus, he was a robot. Amy, on the other hand, waited 36 years, not knowing if she'd ever be rescued or if she'd ever get to see anyone ever again, and aged as well. Probably a whole lot more stressful on the psyche.

Rory did wait for 2000 years, but Amy was in complete isolation. At least Rory was able to get a job as a museum guard.

True. But 2000 years is still a damn long time. And he never left her side. Rory gets a free pass for life just for that.

BBC tax.

It seems EVERYTHING Doctor Who related is expensive. I just got a Doctor Who Magazine from Banes & Noble today...nearly 11 bucks. I thought about getting my daughter a TARDIS players with some action figures for Christmas-that would run me about 100 bucks total. :/

The magazine is expensive in the US since it is an import. The books, such as the recent "Touched by an Angel," are normal price with other things.

The DVDs are expensive just because of the BBC tax. Or the geek tax, which is more appropriate. Shows with a very loyal following, such as Doctor Who and Star Trek, are usually priced higher because the studios know we will pay for it.

The Doctor was definitely a dick in this one. Imagine you spent thirty six years of your life struggling to survive and some asshole came in and just removed all that from existence.

And all because he didn't want to jettison his karaoke bar.

Wouldn't that mean that the Doctor dies in the Library? (therefore never meeting Amy & Rory & those 2 never conceiving River in the Tardis in the first place). It could possibly undo tons of stuff. I mean Davros' universe destroying ray thing would still destroy the universe, right? It all gets kinda complicated a some point.

He couldn't save them both. Saying he could sustain the paradox was a lie to convince Old Amy to co-operate.

Was still a bit of a dick overall, though.

Well, the Doctor only went to the Library in the first place because River summoned him didn't he? If she doesn't exist, he doesn't go there.

My memory is fuzzy, but did the doctor say something along the lines of:

"if you know the future it can help you to change it"

Setting up for the season ender all ready

There's no way the River we know is going to be thrown out of existence. Moffat definitely has a tragic bent, but not that tragic.

Remember River's line in the Library? "Not one line."

Also, re. Rory's 2000 years vs. Amy's 36: Rory waited to save. Amy waited to be saved. 36 years of being hunted when you want to escape and rejoin your husband is nothing if not hell.

Did everyone but me miss the title theme play when the Doctor opened the tool box?
I think it was being played in reverse and slowed or something.

Really enjoyed this episode, as other have said more like this please. Rory is easily becoming my all time favorite companion, he's just soo likable.

Just watched The Curse of Fenric recently. Pretty good. I generally dig McCoy. Him, Smith and Troughton are pretty much of a type.
Add Pertwee and Eccelston to that list and I'd say that would be my top 5 Doctors. I've only seen 4 or 5 complete serials of Troughton but from what I've seen I really like him, it sucks soo much of his stuff has been lost and I won't ever get to see more of it.

As for McCoy, I'm really looking forward to The Greatest Show in the Galaxy getting released on DVD next year, really want to watch that again. I was just old enough to catch the end of McCoys run when I was a kid and ABC Australia was showing the last few seasons and I have good memories of that episode. That said I always had good memories of Paradise Towers and thats one of the more hated episodes of his run.

Yeah in terms of companions I'd put Rory above everyone else in the doctor who revival. Even better than Amy fo sho.

Anyways my second favorite episode of the season (just behind Doctor's Wife). I thought I would be annoyed by older Amy but she won me over after a few minutes. Loved the interplay between both amys and Rory.

edit: God damn Doctor was such a dick in this episode, I really felt bad for Rory and old amy at the end.

Thought the slo-mo at the end was a little over-the-top, but otherwise this was a pretty awesome episode. Loved the final shot of the Doctor at the end:

Also, Rory Williams is pretty much what all men should aspire to be like.

Best line was: "Come on, Rory. It's hardly rocket science; it's just quantum physics!"
Good fun picks, but I think the one that will stick with me is Rory's "This isn't fair. You're turning me into you."

Oh, easily. That was the most important line.

I loved this episode I think there was a lot of little nods to the series finale written in it, what with the whole rewriting history line that the doctor said. Also there was a part where amy puts on the glasses and you hear the doctors voice saying something along the lines of ' dont worry amy we can fix this' could be a reference like in series 5 flesh and stone were we see the doctor without a jacket telling amy to remember him.

I think this was easily the best episode of this series so far.

Another thing about this episode I didn't like - it all came out of some massive stupidity.

Rory knew there were two buttons, tell Amy which one to press.

Amy saw there were two buttons, why not ask Rory which one to press?

NOPE, GUESSING IS THE BEST OPTION, CLEARLY.

yeah that was probably the weakest point of the script of this episode.

Enjoyed it, much better than last week. I thought the ageing makeup was quite good! For TV at least. Could've been a lot worse (i.e. Deathly Hallows Pt 2).

As for where the sword came from, I agree it seemed out of place, but then one of the areas was a gallery, not that much of a stretch to say that somewhere in the Two Streams facility there was a museum with a katana.

Next week looks good, massive Overlook Hotel vibes but iirc that was intentional. Can't wait!

Was I the only hoping that Old Amy's sonic screwdriver was gonna be the sonic the Doctor gives to River before Silence in the Library?

Cause that would've been a decent way to deal with how his current screwdriver isn't the same as the one he's given her..

I am always a sap for these love stories. This and the Dream Master episode are two sides of the same coin.

The use of the macerena was great. It shows that Amy, while being this girl who loves a boy so much she would do anything to be with him, is still this wonderfully independent person.

In real life you'll see people miss out important details all the time. Both Amy and Rory probably weren't thinking about any massive consequences to their actions.

Which is still stupid, because IT'S AMY. She's been with The Doctor for HOW LONG now? She should know better than to not ask which button to press.

(Yes, that part of the episode bugged the hell out of me, too.)
