Doctor Who Series 8 |OT| We've fucking time-travelled, yes?

I'm finishing Season 4, and these last episodes are so confusing. Tennant got shot, started to regenerate.....then bam. I hope this is purposefully confusing with the jumping around.

As an aside - was listening in to other people on the way out, someone was like "oh well it's mainly just a check list of oh yeah shut up fangirls, you won't like this" and got annoyed that some fans (not here, you're all lovely) spend more time thinking their fan-style is better by overanalysing (and frankly pulling out their arse) thoughts on what others think. Just enjoy it. Not related to the episode, but I felt the need to vent.

The whole idea of 'fangirls' feels massively derogatory (I'm not too keen on people referring to 'the Tumblr crowd' either).

It's so woefully sad (and somewhat predictable) that as soon as the show came back and became huge, fans start classifying people into group. If it wasn't for these 'fangirls' the show wouldn't still be on, and I find the idea that Moffat is trying to get rid of them by casting an older actor as slightly ludicrous.

Did you make it to the Facebook page by the way? Not that you need to reveal your true self to world or anything :)

Seeing the premiere in theaters with some friends :D Going to be

I'm hype. I avoided spoilers, but what I read as fas as official info and articles go until last week sounded great so far.

You mean in "The Stolen Earth"/"Journey's End"? The Doctor started to regenerate, but after he healed his own body but before he started to switch to a new one, he transferred the remaining regeneration energy into his detached arm. This allowed him to continue addressing the Dalek problem without going through his regeneration troubles, and a certain something else, if you haven't reached that point in the episode yet.

It was ambiguous whether this counted as a regeneration or not, and it could have gone either way, but with "The Time of the Doctor", it now counts as a regeneration.

It's also very condescending. For one, why can't they fancy Capaldi? And two, they can fancy a main character but that's not enough to watch a show for. They must like it for more than AIN'T HE PRETTY.

Hopefully I'll make it later. I think I'm in another batch of photos and they're going in reverse cos I was quite quick to do that photo thing.

Also "Made in Wales". Shitty Made in Chelsea spinoff?

What the Heck? This all happened in those two episodes? I need to go back...I'm one episode away from the end.

HOLY SHIT. I skipped the Journey's End! -slaps forehead- Fuuuuck. Welp, this is an interesting order to watch episodes. The Stolen Earth, then The Next Doctor, Waters on Mars, then the first of the last 2 episodes....now back to Journey's End. lol

Dammit, somebody get Capaldi on an airplane so we can have Craig Ferguson interview him now that Capaldi's the Doctor. I want to hear more about how they did acid together.

Well that certainly explains your confusion

Who else is going to cinema for the premier? Cannae fucking wait! I say it every series (except for the last), but this looks like it's going to be the best yet.

Couldn't help myself and watched the news report. Damn, looks good. Having to choose a new Doctor is always scary, but Capaldi seems like an amazing choice.

From what I've seen, those "fangirls" might have been a bit surprised about Capaldi at first—many didn't know him—, but it seems they quickly embraced him.
I suppose those people never considered the possibility those 'fangirls' might actually like the show!

I hope they manage to get to do at least one interview. Ferguson is leaving in December, so there isn't much time :(

Man, I already feel sorry for Capaldi and Jenna and its only day one. Having to dress up and get asked the same damn questions day after day must be one of the most tedious things ever.

Though they do get to go to Rio so....

I think Moff going along for some is the favourite. Seeing him today just reaffirmed that yes, he is just a slightly grumpy Scotsman. It kinda puts a few of his quotes in perspective by seeing his attitude to things. Not in a way.

I'm well revealed (oo-er)

Oh nice, wouldn't have a clue it was starting again without this thread. I wonder how long it will take me to not imagine Capaldi anymore as an insulting dickwad who works in politics. Half of me wishes he would take on the same role as the Doctor.

Man watching those trailer clips again really hammers home how much I love the new Tardis interior. Probably my favorite of the ones since 2005

Finally off work...I've been going crazy since I found out I skipped an episode. Watching now!

Journey's End....I did not enjoy that very much. The Doctor's reunion with Rose, and their goodbye, was pretty lackluster. I was very afraid that Rose returning would retroactively put a damper on how she originally ended...and it kind of did. This whole arc did not need her. Why oh why did they bring her back? And goodbye Donna. I'm still not sure what I think of you....I went from liking you, to hating you in the Pompeii episode, back to liking. In the end, you've left more of an impression than Martha and Rose. And they handled the end of her relationship with the Doctor much better than they did with Martha. Please don't ruin it later like they've now done with Rose. That was soul crushing when the Doctor said bye to her, and she just looks at him "yeah, cya". Yeah....this was great. I think the end of this relationship saved the whole episode for me.

Holy shit. Doctor Who cool factor just went up 10 points

Finally wrapped up watching TToTD. I enjoyed it well enough in a "don't ask questions and let the general idea wash over you" kind of way. The series has had several cringeworthy finales since it came back, so I don't go in expecting much. I liked the incidental characters, and Matt's sendoff was about a dozen times easier to watch than David's, but it mostly felt like the episode only existed to wrap up a few of 8 years of plot holes and offer an easy out for a 50 year old inevitability. Still, it was fun enough, a 5 or 6 of 10 at least, but I think the 7 minutes I spent at lunch watching McGann's minisode made a bigger impact. Matt's final scene was the strongest part, I thought.

I'm officially ready for the future now.

I'm excited for this...haven't decided whether I'm going to drag any of my friends to see it in a theater or not yet, though.

Fuck yeah, let's do this, into darkness on the Twelfth Night! So pumped for Capaldi and where The Doctor goes from here. I really like Jenna/Clara, though I would love 12 to have a new companion sometime too.

Lore question, in tags just in case but
Have they wriggled out of the "timelords only get 13 regenerations" rule?

They dealt with this in the Christmas Special. Smith was the last regeneration, on account of the
War Doctor and the time Tennant used a regeneration to not change
, but
Clara asked the Timelords trapped in another universe to save the Doctor, and they sent him a new cycle of regenerations through the cracks in the universe

So
he has 13 new ones or is there just no limit?

Now that you spell it out...
That's a massively lazy way to fix what has been one of the most interesting looming threats in Doctor Who for decades.

Yeah they could have easily had Tennants sortofregen not count and then the 12th Doctor not having any regenerations left could have been an interesting plot line. Especially since 11 once even talked about regenerating in Let's Kill Hitler.

The problem is that "the Doctor is dead... FOR GOOD... NO BACKSIES" was already done not just in season 6, but also sort of in season 7's finale and even "Time of the Doctor". To Moffat's credit, I think he realized how dry that well is getting and did the full reset for regenerations and the cameo in "Day of the Doctor" precisely to prevent that sort of thing from coming up again. Now, if he had actually planned out that "11th Doctor is actually the 13th form", he could have done the last regeneration angst in season 6, but alas.

I'm still trying to figure out (through some helpful links posted in the Pre-Series 8 thread) on how to do a general Doctor Who OT, but his regenerations will definitely be part of the FAQs.

Well from the sounds of things they probably had to pull it out of their ass pretty quick once with negotiations with Eccleston fell through for the 50th and they had to insert the War Doc in.

I could easily see the early plan for the Post Matt Smith doctor including having the theme of this being his final regeneration looming in the background.

It deserved more build then it got.

I like the idea of the War Doctor because none of the others really fit in that War setting so its a shame they didnt have that idea a year or two earlier and done both ideas justice.

Or they just back tracked and said that Tennant fake out didnt count so they had room to breath.

Apparently this guy was a cameraman for a prequel,
there's a rumour there's a big cameo in it.

Finally home... I can't tell you what, where or who I was filming today but if you're a Dr Who fan you'd pap your pants...

All this talk about regenerations, I'm more happy that even though we'll never see it again,
Tom Baker
is all but confirmed as the 1xth Doctor. Or 2xth doctor.

Finally the wait is almost over. Great op of course. I kinda hopped F**Kunt would have made the title, but seeing it now, the better one survived.

Still want to watch it in theaters, but no one to go with as I'm really the only one of my friends who actually watches Who.

Go alone.

It's ok.

I'm going alone to the cast reunion in Toronto later this month.

Same here. I went alone to the 50th and I'll be going alone to this one.

If "alone" means surrounded by other enthusiastic fans, that is.
