11's regeneration needs to be equally giddy and sad. His line needs to be something along the lines of "I wonder if it'll tingle!?!"

Agreed, something bittersweet will be perfect. I'll cry regardless though. I just thought of the scene near the end of The Doctor's Wife, right after Idris!Tardis fades the Doctor gets sad and mumbles "where...". Short but hits like a brick and it's one of my favorite Matt moments in the series.

That's not a line in the script, actually -- I think he's just making a sort of throaty noise like people make when they're choking up. Still very sad.

That said, I think Eleven's attitude pre-regeneration will be something like the time rewind scene at the end of Pandorica. Sitting at the edge of young Amy's bed, that sombre but triumphant attitude - I bet that's how he'll be.

You and I have had this debate before, but I really do like that last line for Tennant's Doctor. He was a soft, over-emotional thing, one way or the other, swinging between dark, dark and this sort of fake, bouncy lightness and then to downright depression. It was perfect for him, I think, but that isn't this Doctor at all.

Ah I see, thanks for clarifying. It's actually even sadder to me if he's just choking up.

Good call on the attitude during the rewind, that would be very suitable indeed.

I kinda do too. Not necessarily in terms of episode quality, but in enthusiasm and presence. Much as I love him, Moffat and his dour Scottish sarcasm doesn't quite scratch the same itch, and Willis and Wenger (and their various rumoured scandals) are better off out of the way.

I do like what we've seen of Caro Skinner, though; obviously we can't tell what she's like in the day to day running of the show, but she makes a good impression.

I just miss the buildup that we used to see in the RTD era. Exclusive titles in DWM months ahead of time, full cast lists without character names for us to speculate on, massive spoilery trailers in cinemas months in advance of the series, billboards... it just seems a bit "lesser" under Moffat, which is a bit of a shame. DWM in particular has suffered badly from this; it's gone from being an essential view of what's coming up to being a bit throwaway. :(

Yup. We also lost Confidential AND commentaries. We used to get TWO commentaries for episodes during the RTD era. One podcast and one on the DVD's.

We've sort-of already had a death moment a couple of times. One of which he avoided for a couple of hundred years (I've pretty sure the Tennant Doctor did something similiar).

Both of these things make me incredibly happy.

As for Smith leaving, I wouldn't be at all surprised, or really that upset. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE his Doctor, but he's had some fantastic storylines and companions, some of the best.

Do you have fun with the wardrobe? What, in your opinion, is the best costume you have gotten to wear?

MATT: Yeah. We’ve got this new costume designer called Howard— [JENNA: The Big H!]—who has just really, reinvented the show in an amazing way. For me he’s given me this great purple coat.

JENNA: (wait a sec…) That’s the fandom trying to figure out where I come from? That’s a sneaky little trick! I think just Christmas, the two Victorian ones which Howard handmade from scratch. Oswin was fun, there was a great utility belt that I got to play with.

MATT: I really liked that red costume.

JENNA: Yeah.

What has been the funniest thing to happen on set while filming?

MATT: I try to wind up and annoy my costumer Kat, long suffering Kat. she’ll come in and she’ll go to check me… [To JENNA] Go on, you be Kat. [JENNA adjusts MATT’s “costume” and MATT suddenly yelps in surprise. They laugh.]

MATT: You know, I’m just appalling to her.

JENNA: I like to hide.

MATT: Yeah, a bit of hiding when they come to check you.

JENNA: [to Matt] We did the whole going around and you have to name a pop star. And at the end of that letter you have to go and name another pop star using that letter…. We did that for quite a few days.

MATT: We’re such good friends with the crew that we just hang. Keep it real with the crew, man. That’s it. Listen to music. But you know, generally, you sort of work between takes. There’s always a photo to do or you are catching up with whatever you’re having to do with on your phone…

JENNA: Trying to get ahead on scenes.

MATT: Learning other scenes. There isn’t a great deal of, like, just down time.

JENNA: Lots of changes, like costume changes…There really isn’t a still moment is there?

JENNA: The fact that every single day is something completely new and different. You can literally walk onto a set and be in one world and then the next day it’s ripped down and suddenly you’re like in Victorian Yorkshire. By locations and casting, I don’t think there’s any other show like it.

Jenna, how are the avocados?
(When Jenna found out that she got the part on Doctor Who, she was in a shop holding an avocado.)

MATT: Dude, she eats avocados, like, every hour. Breakfast this morning: chopped avocado on toast.

JENNA [laughs]: I did!

MATT: She loves avocados. It’s no surprise to me that that’s what you would buy.

JENNA: But I was literally holding it. It was in the palm of my hand as I answered the phone. That’s why I didn’t know what to do.

MATT: Did you eat that avocado?

JENNA: No I had to put it back.

MATT: No way!

JENNA: Because I can’t check out now! I can’t! I was just like “What do I do?” I had a basket full of things and I just left it. I didn’t know where to go or what to do. I went for a walk. And I had no socks on and I got sore feet. I just slipped out of the house to go to the market.

I know that you found out that you were going to be in Doctor Who while holding an avocado. So my question is inspired by that avocado, as a college grad trying to learn how to cook. MATT: Yeah, I love cosplay. If you go to Comic Con, all the guys are in bow ties and tweed jackets or David’s old coat. Or they’ll be in an Oswin dress.

JENNA: I saw, the day before I moved to Cardiff to start this job, a little boy, a mini Doctor! A mini Doctor like literally walked past me with a screwdriver and everything. Just walking past me on the street.

MATT: I think it’s brilliant and it makes those events even more exciting for us to see everyone dressed up.

MATT: Yeah, Blackburn Rovers. Breaking Bad. Walking Dead. You know, and movies. Movies, movies, movies.

JENNA: Yeah, Breaking Bad. [I’m] just getting back to watching films.

Matt: a lot of people (myself included) say that doctor who has changed their life, by opening their mind to new possibilities and expanding their beliefs in what is possible within our universe. How has being on the show affected your beliefs about the world and the importance of humanity in all of time and space?

MATT: Yeah, it’s really encouraged an interest in science—genuinely—and thinking in a scientific way. I read a lot about Einstein, Richard Dawkins, and all that sort of stuff. And I love the idea and notion of time travel. I think it’s magic! It’s got me thinking about it a lot. And the morality of The Doctor is a great benchmark for anyone.

Matt, in your opinion who is the greatest football player ever?

MATT: Can I give you my top 5 though? In no particular order:
Maradona
Zidane
Ronaldo
Ronaldo — there’s two Ronaldos, there’s the Brazilian and the Portuguese.
Messi.

Matt, do you ever get weirded out or overwhelmed by the fan following?

MATT: No! Because it’s what makes the show special and we LOVE the fans.

If you ran a Tumblr What would the main focus be? (e.g., Cats, Socks, Bowties…)

JENNA: I’d like to do a photography Tumblr. Or I’d like to do one about anything that inspires you during the day. Like pictures, or a poem, or a little quote or a thought. I do have loads of quote books and things I read.

MATT: My best friend Alex Bond because he is an extraordinary human being.

We've got Doctor Who's 50th anniversary coming up in November 2013, and one assumes there'll be another Christmas special after that, and I'd hope to be part of it.

I take each year as it comes. All good things come to an end, but my mum is aghast at the thought of me ever not being the Doctor. The show is the star and will continue without me. I'm committed to it next year and will sit down with Steven Moffat and see where we go from there. I've no immediate plans to leave. I'm around for a whole year and that's a long time.

Some new Matt quotes on the future. Because of the bolded, I'm now 100% behind that rumour that he'll be going on New Years' Day 2014. This exact quote is what Tennant was briefed to say by the BBC's Press Office when he'd already lined up going but it was too early to say. Almost word for word, he said it for an entire year during Series 4's production, and even reiterates he has a year left to calm people down during his leaving statement! The fact he talks about still being there for Christmas 2013 only makes it line up with that leak from a few weeks ago even more perfectly.

How Moffat would it be if we meet the new Doctor, not knowing it's him, during the 50th special, only for Matt to regenerate into him some 50 days later? Hmm... Then again, schedule-wise this is probably impossible to pull off, as he'd probably be filming with his own companion before that episode airs. Even if we know it'd be pretty amazing, though.
