I really wish they'd move back to a more electronic score to be honest. As much as I liked 9 and 10's scores (especially series 4), I just think it's become too bloated.

Agreed. They've sapped every bit of alienness out of it. Bring back the lonely synth.

Hmmm... Looking forward to the new companion. I'm already starting to get attached to her and all I have seen are the trailers lol.

I miss the Ponds. Don't know if I can get used to the new companion that quickly. The video clips in the symphony today really made it clear that it was the Pond show for the past two series and a half.

If Clara is indeed a 100% different character I want them to handwave Oswin's mind into her as soon as possible. I liked the banter and her being tech savvy.

If she's going to be a totally different person unrelated to the other, then why even have her play that other character. Sense it makes not one bit. As long as Clara (I prefer Oswin. Boo.) is like Oswin I don't care but still. Don't tease us with this. They could have just gotten anyone to play Oswin. No reason to tease people with the same actress. It's not like she was in an episode last season before they knew Amy and Rory were leaving and said "Let's do what we did with Martha and bring back this wonderful actress to play the new girl for the second half." They put her in the beginning of the same season where she's supposed to be taking over.

Obviously Moffat's lying through his teeth. They'll be connected in some way. Especially if The Doctor mentions anything about her looking familiar.

The Doctor (I believe) never saw Oswin in her human form. Thee only time they met face to face was when she'd already been converted. He may not even really recognize her voice, seeing as she spoke through an intercom with a lot of echo (at least not right away).

Well the Doctor never saw Oswin so I'm not even sure he knows what she looks like.
Yeah. I forgot about that.

Still.... why have the same actress at all? There's millions of actresses they could have had to play a one-off character.

There's clearly more to it plot-wise, but the short answer is: to mess with the fans. People knew Jenna would play the new companion, but the episode ended with a twist that they managed to keep under wraps. It was very meta but I enjoyed the surprise to be honest, I was watching the entire episode comfortably waiting for her to be saved and join them in the Tardis, then that happened. This is what Jenna had to say about it:

“It’s interesting actually — I think I can tell you this — that that was never the initial plan either, to have me be Oswin. That was part of a genius plan that Steven came up with half-way through the audition process. That was already written but not written for what was to be the new companion. I was auditioning for the companion and then I got all these sides and I was like, “Who’s Oswin? They clearly don’t know what they want, they obviously don’t know what they’re looking for. They just want people to show them different things and see.” This is what I assumed when I was auditioning, not realizing that it’s basically Steven’s mad genius again.”

edit: also, what she said about the connection being addressed in the Christmas special:

“Uh… mmm… no. We’re going to have what has been referred to as a ‘soft mystery’. For me, filming, I’ve been totally oblivious to Oswin and the Asylum of the Daleks. I really have had to erase it from my memory. Yeah, Christmas is its own episode.”

"Soft mystery." I didn't know we came up with a new term for overarching story arc... I think Moffat is just scared to act like he tied all the episodes together again for fear of backlash.

So when's the new episode gonna air?

Also just learned of this:

IDW also own the rights to publishing Doctor Who comics so...

With all these changes (new TARDIS, new costume, new companion...) they might as well call the next episodes Season 8. :lol

Looks ok, I'll probably get more used to it when it's in the show.

Steven Moffat sure loves changing things, we only had the last Tardis set since 2010.

This one is at least a fair amount different from the "coral" set- the 2010 TARDIS is amazing and pretty much perfect in my opinion, but the colour scheme and general look wasn't terribly different from the coral set. This feels like a shift rather than an upgrade, which I like- and makes sense for the Doctor at the moment, too.

Does this mean the Tardis will get knackered somehow? (speculation) Like at the end of time.

Nah. He's a grumpy sod, now, ain't he? The Children in Need clip showed as much. He'll have redecorated to keep his mind off of Amy and Rory. The TARDIS is generally a sign of the Doctor's current "tone"- the sparse organic look for the brand new man that was 9, the weird gothic look for 8, the trinkets and anachronistic style for the wackier and similarly dressed 11. Now 11 is miserable, so the TARDIS
gets cold and metallic.

Alternatively:
the snow fucks it up and he crashes.

Looks ok I guess. A bit low budget?

I did love the old Tardis but they never really did anything with all that space (Apart from a few occasions)

looks very meh - perhaps that's not all of it. Would like to see the doorway and are there any other doors or entrances - where would you put the swimming pool?

Edit: Could it be related to the tardis capability shown in The Doctor's Wife

Seems to be a raised platform for the console still. Definitely a throwback to the older designs though.

I think the lack of visual detail on the floor and ceiling is what's bugging me the most. But I like the computery look of the control panel in back: its very interesting shift compared to 9-10's cobbled together look, and 11's whimsical fantasy land.

It's gonna depend on camera filters a bit. The two preview shots we had before look much colder; this new one has brighter lighting. There also appears to be plenty of space. The ceiling is vaulted up to make room for the Gallifreyan tiles, and you can see what appears to be an upper and lower level separate from the center control spot. It'll be up to directors to decide how cramped or open the control room looks.

This really looks like a throwback to the Tardis designs of old. Really looks like a natural progression from what the classic series had. That said I do think its lost abit of its personality of the previous design. I really liked that and it will be missed. I'm sort of worried this one will come off as very cheesy sci fi and not the whole Sci Fi fairytale the last one had going for it.

But will be interested to see what it looks like on set, really hope they keep the multi level thing happening as well.

That's so oldschool!

Makes sense, though. If he wants to become more lowkey, a simpler TARDIS fits the theme.

I still want an episode that takes place enitrely on a TARDIS. Let's see the swimming pool library.

I don't mind the surroundings but the controls are a major step down. Just regular old knobs and stuff is boring.

Not a fan, but I'll wait and see it in action before really judging it.

Like others have said, the old TARDIS had so much more personality with how it was built. At least there's still a lower level (from the looks of it) that he can run down to.

Maybe it really was too difficult to dismantle the old set and put it in the new studio. I feel like they could've taken the console itself and left the rest, at the very least.

To be fair, a lot of the Doctor Who stuff looks like assign photos and real life. Looks much better on film.

The main console seems to be mostly the same collection of spinners, knobs, thingies and whatchamacallits.

Probably a bit of Pond house cleaning.
