When is the show ever not focused around the Doctor? They should have gotten as many familiar faces as possible, especially people as prominent (and willing) as JB.

After RTD pulled out the "Everyone And Their Robot Dog Comes Back" plot for the 30th time during his run I got kind of sick of it, so I'm fine with the 50th being more focused personally.

I still like River, but I will say wholeheartedly that my enjoyment of the character was hurt quite a bit after the crappy reveal of her backstory.

I wanted her to be something new, and unique. Something that really did pique The Doctor's interest. Maybe a new, or part Time lord, but preferably something new entirely. Instead we get a crappy hook to the current companion and the Doctor cares for her out of guilt.

I like River, but I did also like having this break without her popping up.
I agree that River works better when she's not the focus and only appears like, once or twice a season. She's basically the new Jack in my mind.

While the reveal wasn't the best, it doesn't really effect my enjoyment of her character. Also, I don't really think the reason the Doctor cares about her is guilt.

I so much agree with this, and can't understand why people think he has been guilted into his relationship with her. :(

The way I see it, he likes her because she actually challenges him on an intellectual level, rather than being all 'OH DOCTOR SAVE ME! OH DOCTOR, YOUR SO HOT!' etc...

I never even knew people thought they were together because of the Doctor's guilt, that doesn't make any sense to me.

Guilt? Wtf?
Exactly! :p

I feel like we still haven't actually seen their relationship build up enough at all for what they supposedly "have" to feel believable to me.

Yeah, same here. And if anything, SHE might be a bit bitter about it. Just a tiny bit though, simply because of the whole 'your firsts/my lasts' thing.

I completely agree. We're just supposed to assume they have one, and it bothers me.

I never thought it was motivated by guilt or anything but the show has been pretty bad with giving us a good reason for the Doctor actually being with her. Just having an offhand reference every once in a while to a date they may or may not have had at some point in time (lolz) doesn't work for me.

They need more scenes with just them together that aren't tied to whatever immediate threat a given episode is supposed to be about, but River pretty much never shows up onscreen unless it's "important."

Definitely agree that River works best in small doses - as a supporting character in The Angels Take Manhattan I was enjoying her there more than pretty much any of her appearances in S6.

I am always curious as to how Jack might turn out as a long-term companion. I enjoyed his 5-episode run in S1 quite a bit, but on the other hand the character's grown significantly since then.

So after this series when does Who start again? November? So no summer series this year? Can we PLEASE get a regular schedule for this damn show?

It would be nice. If I understand correctly, it's the rest of this season, the anniversary special in November, the Christmas special and then Season 8 sometime next year. :(

I kinda want to be surprised too. Every time a new doctor comes, fandom explodes with 'WTF, THIS GUY? WHY WHY.'

And then we see him in action and we're like "Oh right, yeah, he works."

It'd be nice if we were just f'in shocked.
I hope the next person that's chosen to be the Doctor doesn't look weird.

When I think about 11 I really begin to dislike more and more about his character. Even the very first episode with him fell short in my opinion. I'm alone in this view and if I start talking about why I dislike him people will start giving their opinions on why I'm wrong and that's a whole rabbit hole I don't want to go down.

Safe to say since Moffat took over the showrunner and Matt Smith became The Doctor iv had less interest in the show.

Wow.. I did not realize till someone pointed it out today that the Governor from Walking Dead (David Morrissey) was in the 08 Christmas special "The Next Doctor". Had to go back and watch to refresh it in my head.

/duh is me Always though he looked familiar for some reason.

These English actors hide their accents so well.

Continuing on my viewing: Victory of the Daleks really jumped the shark with the fighters in space. That, and the climax really brought the episode down for me.

Churchill was great, strong acting by the cast overall, notably Matt Smith, and the story seemed sound. Best moments have to be the ones with Amy and the Doctor deactivating the bomb on Bracewell, and the end, where he was told to continue living. I'm a sucker for those happy endings.

Miscellaneous notes:
- Amy's legs. DAMN. The show really knew how to sell itself to the casual viewer.
- Bracewell going from his notes to bombers in space within the span of "ten minutes"? Come on, Gatiss.
- Cant help but think about the Ninth Doctor and Rose running around in the evening somewhere else while this episode was going on (in reference to The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances).

Next up: Angels two-parter.

For me, knowing that Mirren & Ejiofor are both on the record as saying they really want to do it - if Moffat doesn't even CHECK with those two first, that will be a missed opportunity.

Or an older woman.

(give it to Mirren)

Dear lord, my mind would do backflips at the sight of Mirren, or really, any female Doctor. :3

So, currently on The Girl in the Fireplace, and I definitely see the charm in Tennant and all. Overall, this series has been pretty fun so far, despite the sight self-overhyping on my part, haha.

Even though I personally think Moffat could do a competent job of it, and I really would love to see a woman doctor, I'd rather it happen with whoever takes over from him eventually because the shitstorm from him running a woman doctor would be epic and painful.

Yeah, but shitstorms are temporary. They can be weathered. If the work is good, the work will stand.

I'll suffer all manner of fannish shitstorm if the work is quality.
