Heads-up: Pointless at 7pm UK time tonight is Doctor Who themed. Four companions, two family members of companions, one incidental character for a given episode, and a Doctor to round it off.

The third trailer for BBC America's Doctor Who: The Doctors Revisited series.

Take an in-depth look at the third incarnation of the truly timeless Time Lord, who brought action and stunts to the series. With exclusive interviews with lead writer & executive producer STEVEN MOFFAT, executive producer CAROLINE SKINNER, Tenth Doctor DAVID TENNANT, Season Six guest star HUGH BONNEVILLE (Downton Abbey) and more!

Then, in the story “Spearhead from Space,” a swarm of meteorites fall on the sleepy English countryside, bringing with them a terrible new threat to mankind: the Nestene consciousness -- a disembodied alien intelligence with an affinity for plastic. The Doctor is forced to race against time, in order to stop humanity from being replaced by a generation of terrifying plastic replicas.

I'm going to attempt to watch Smith's Who episodes before Saturday.

Little funny thing I just caught now that I didn't on my previous viewings of The Eleventh Hour: the Doctor whispers "thanks, dear" when his new Sonic Screwdriver pops out of the TARDIS console.

I really like Matt, at first I was not so sure but he grew on my quickly. LOL at the sonic screwdriver, that was a nice touch.

Not too fussed about that. Love Captain Jack but I think the 50th Anniversary episode should be focused more on the Doctor(s) than anything else. Maybe have the fanservice in and around that episode.

When is the show ever not focused around the Doctor? They should have gotten as many familiar faces as possible, especially people as prominent (and willing) as JB.

I'm okay with John Barrowman not being in the 50th. I can only assume that there would be a reference to him, along with past companions and friends.

Speaking purely about Doctor Who and not its spin-offs, the changeover from the RTD to the Moffat era also meant RTD's "baggage" (characters, story arcs, etc.) was put away, as well, I think. That includes Captain Jack, as much as we all love the character. If there's a good story to bring him back in, I'm all for it.

Good news then. He has little to nothing to do with the Doctor so why should he feature in a anniversary special?

I'll not be watching then. As much as it'll pain me, I'm done with Moff if he pulls something like this. I hope this is just JB denying it to cover it up.

Moff basically created Jack. He wrote the first episode Jack was featured in.

But... Jack's a Moffat character in the first place. It's a shame that we won't be seeing Jack anytime soon, especially since Smith's time seems to be coming to an end, we might never see Jack/Eleven interact. :(

What? Just because Jack's not in it? That's a pretty stupid reason to miss out on what could be the biggest event in Who history, as well as being 'done' with Moffat.

It usually is, I just think it needs to be a stronger focus for the anniversary. Just my two pennies though.

I'm sure it's just BS anyway. Moff has lied blind face to many people before, so I'm just going to hold out hope.

Fun fact. The last time Jack appeared in a Doctor Who episode (not counting the 2-minute goodbye-scene from "The End Of Time") is almost 5 years ago.

It isn't strictly true that he's a Moffat character, really - he's half-and-half. RTD gave him the initial spec of what Jack was at his core (from the future, sexually liberal, the action man the Doctor can't be) and Moffat built the action man/missing memories story. It's the closest the pair have come to a collaboration.

It's a shame he didn't appear in 'A Good Man Goes to War' as Moffat intended, but I don't really think the 50th is the right place for a sort of quasi-companion anyway.

Meanwhile, Jenna says:
There could be a big gap until the next series. I think the writer Steven Moffat is off doing Sherlock and there’ll be a lot of preparation for the 50th anniversary special.

This makes me feel more like Matt is going (putting new things can be put into place will take time) but it also really pisses me off. I want 14 episodes a year, every year, like clockwork, again.

Other stuff - Moffat has also there'll be something of a
love triangle between Clara, the Doctor and River (who appears in the finale), but "not in the ways you'll think."

Just finished The Beast Below. Not my favourite episode, but certainly not a terrible one. The revelations that the government had "trapped" the Star Whale, and later that it was actually willing to help really made the episode worth the watch.

Misc notes:
- Amy in that nightie was distracting.
- Never liked Liz 10 in my previous viewings, the trend continues.
- "Right, this isn't going to be big on dignity," still gets me.
- The preview for Victory of the Daleks really kills the suspense in the end of the episode with Churchill calling the Doctor about needing his help, with a Dalek's silhouette shown behind him.

At least the mystery around the anniversary special will at least partially lifted soon; there's news and embargoed interviews coming down the pipe for Tuesday.

Seriously? Cool, glad to hear it. I wonder what they'll actually say, though - I imagine Moffat'll want to keep at least some big surprises hidden.

The readthrough is this week. There's an announcement on Tuesday - presumably to get some stuff out there before people (past Doctors?) start mysteriously showing up in Cardiff.

"David Tennant spotted buying gum from a convenience store near Cardiff. CONFIRMED FOR 50TH."
