Doctor Who Series Seven |OT| The Question You've Been Running From All Your Life

The more interesting possibility is that Dr finds her on his travels, they do the whole Dr Who thing for a bit, then her season finale is when she ends up on that crashed ship on that Dalek wreck before the events of this episode.

Would be interesting to have a companion that we know is living on borrowed time, although that would kill a lot of the tension as we know she cant die until the moment that its her time.

I'd like that too.

The "remember" line just before Oswin looks at the camera was interesting though. Also, if she traveled with The Doctor why doesn't she seem to remember him? Post-conversion memory loss maybe?

They could always do what they did with River.

But then there'd be no use with traveling with her if she doesn't remember it. I love that Moffat has used the pre-announcement of the companion to his advantage. Very clever.

Seems that Remembering is a big theme this time.
The Doctor told Amy and Rory to make the Daleks remember them. Oswin lasts as long as she does because she's determined to remember herself. Oswin wants the Doctor to remember her. She insists on it. And the audience too, because she looks at the camera quite intentionally.
And then she stops the Daleks from remembering The Doctor. As much as the Daleks might have become stronger in adversity, I daresay them not being afraid of him could have some rather unpleasant repurcussions too.

I did find it odd that they didn't mention the fields of Tranzalon, the Fall of the Eleventh
At the very least, if these Daleks show up on the fields of Trenzalore, we can now anticipate the question ;)

I am so, so glad that this episode got to air without anyone spoiling it horribly beforehand, even if the Mirror were a bit meanspirited with one of their reports earlier.
Makes it a whole lot better knowing other people got to be surprised too :)

Remembering has been a big part of the Moffat series. It was used at the end of the first and second season. Amy "remembered" her parents and The Doctor back into existence.

That was really good. Much better than some of the previous episodes.

Great start to the new series, looking forward to the next episode!

Also got to love how eerily similar some of the music can be to Mass Effect 2's Suicide Mission theme. Always loved that.

Yes, but that comes with another theme: the Daleks have been improving themselves in fear of the Doctor, but they won't have to improve themselves of something or someone they don't know.

Great episode.

Moffat wouldn't have introduced the human dalek hybrids if that wasn't what Jenna's character turns out to be. I don't know how she gets out of the Asylum and is transformed but as were repeatedly told she is a genius. So the next companion will be a dalek. Well fucking done Moffat.

Is it wrong that I wish Amy and Rory didn't get back together? Kinda shocked about the whole "I can't have kids any more" thing.

That's what I love about it. At this point he's lived 2000 + of her lifetimes. Rory has come a long way. Such a great character.

Oh yes, his rise to hero status makes it so good. And he's still incapable of recognising a Dalek trying to scream "EXTERMINATE!". He'll rise higher before he's gone, I'm confident of it!

If he does a post Dalek Oswin I'd like to see the mindfuck Moffat uses to pull that one off. IT's going to be a tough sell. The thought of The Doctor with a Dalek companion is interesting though.

I didn't think about that. What IF The Doctor's new companion is half-human-half-Dalek? MIND BLOWN.

Also, I got to watch it on a movie screen. :)

I love some of the shots of The Kaled in the glass tube (was it the Empreror?). Very well done.

That depends. Yes, they no longer have to improve themselves because they fear the Doctor, but don't you think that lack of fear could be just as dangerous? If they were ever cautious before, do they now have any motivation to be? If they ever avoided anything before, do they now have any reason to?
They turned to the Doctor because they considered him their Predator. They considered him further up the food-chain than them.
They now think they have no Predators.

If people had no fear, if they had no concept of the terrible outcomes things could have, no fear of danger, no fear of pain to stop them from doing something that is, perhaps, ill-advised, or no reason to stop themselves doing something, don't you think people would be a hell of a lot scarier?

I quite amazed this didn't leak out everywhere beforehand, I guess Moffat's begging did wonders. :p

Hottest Dalek EVER.

I'm also calling dibs on the avatar version of this now, just in case. DIBS!

Oh for sure. That's why I'm thinking we're gonna see a return of the Daleks, especially since the new companion is so closely tied to them.

Also, maybe I missed something since I didn't watch Tennant's run, but didn't the Doctor kill all the Daleks in the Time War or whatever?

It doesn't matter if you kill all the Daleks. There are always more Daleks.
Time and Space are a big, big place ;)

And a great example of how to save money. Keep him in the background, only in close up shots - no need for CGI.

(Which I'm sure the guy who worked for the FX company who posted in these threads loved.)

Now? It started with Martha at the end of S2. Although the only time it was intentional was with Donna and now the Dalek.

Well, yes. Repetition is what makes me ask if it's a *tradition*. The other situations had a gap of a series between the one-off and the main companion role, but this actually looks like it was planned in advance.

Ah, I didn't catch that. But he knew of the Dalek Parliament did he not? But I guess the fact that there are always Daleks will always trump this haha

Well he knows that the Daleks had time to recover after Victory, and he's fought them long enough to know how they organise themselves when there's a lot of them I guess.

Yep, so good. Gonna be needing that new soundtrack asap.

When was the last time we saw that leader Dalek (the one outside its shell)? And didn't he get blown up?
