But it is from The Truman Show.

Stealth edit beaten. My reputation on GAF is ruined.

I think the greatest thing about this episode is:

If you are a casual Who fan, the episode was brilliant from start to finish.

If you are a die-hard fan, keeping up with the news. . .it was even more of a WTF thats brilliant episode.

One question:
was there any significance to the people Amy saw dancing? I thought I saw the surviving woman from The Almost People, and the first to praise from The God Complex.

I don't think so.

Waiting on North America fan reaction in a few hours.

That was fantastic. I'd say it's the best opening episode I've seen.
I really liked how they were able make it seem like a single episode arc and lay down the foundation for future episodes with Oswin at the same time. Although tbh I'm a little disappointed that she didn't join the doctor in dalek form. The doctor having crazy adventures with a dalek companion. That would be hilarious.

Also best use of "Doctor Who?" yet.

Somebody just posted this on another forum... regarding the chair today's big reveal character was sitting in.

Tonight's episode: http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9ox7qTMUY1r2t123.jpg

Let's not forget that Moffat was the one who had RTD change the script and have Jenny survive... Prop reuse, or something more? Probably prop reuse, but, man, that'd be cool. I hope he does reuse her one day, considering her 'saved' her.

I wondered that cos of the super smarts. Really wonder how the Clara plot goes: seeing a death first would be a River repeat but as said but she wasn't full time companion. Who knows.

But just in general, her, woooow she's pretty.

I was thinking for a while throughout this episode - especially as she spoke in ways that sounded very Doctor-like - that she might turn out to be Susan, as with Moffat's circular logic I always thought there was a very large change we'd get a regenerated Susan as the companion for the 50th, thus meaning we had the same TARDIS crew 50 years on as when the show opened.

staying away from this thread till I watch the episode. first the mgs:ground zeroes trailer and now this, this has been a good day so far.

I don't see it at all.

Well that just seems shitty to us US people dont you think?

That's the rules of NeoGAF. And the US does it with pretty much every show that airs fair. The Brits are far too polite.

Oh shit!!

I see the chair in the second pic, but all I see in the first picture is Oswin. Am I missing something here?

That chair is eerily similar. I hope they don't go down this path. I'm not a huge fan of The Doctor's Daughter character.

The Jenny/Oswin comparisons are interesting...as much as I'd love for it to be Jenny, it's not a Moffat plot, and more likely, it's just a prop being reused (the chair).

Clara/Owin is not Jenny.

Their final episode (Angels in Manhattan) leads me to assume...

Amy and Rory stay behind in New York, find River, and raise her like a normal daughter. Though, I feel like I'm missing something that would make this theory null and void.
(speculation spoiler, just in case?)

Anyway, to the episode.
Favourite season opener yet. I thought there was more to the Daleks asking for help than what had actually transpired.

Amy not being able to have kids, then letting go of Rory...feels really sad man. Fucking Silence...

Got a little giddy seeing Skaro decimated like Gallifrey, too. No particular reason why.

Oswin, also feels sad man. Jenna-Louise Coleman, goddamn.

Oswin deleting the Doctor on the Dalek's database...genius stuff. Leaves a clean slate for Moffat to write more Dalek stories without having to rely too much on past events.

I'm wondering if Oswin is just a "distant relative" like Adeolah and Martha, or if there's something more. Is "Clara" actually her confirmed name as a companion?

We're finally back to the swing of things.

please PLEASE tell me you're being sarcastic. Or we can lump this post in the "why dont people like the US" thread.

Really loved the ep. And I want to give a shout out to the ABC here in Australia who had it up on their online viewing site (iview) the same hour that it was airing in the UK on the BBC (at like 5am!)

I tried so hard to stay up to watch it then and there but didn't last lol.

but anyway, so good.

Favourite parts: Amy starting to turn into a dalek, and then for some reason seeing the people dancing. and the scene where the dr first wakes up on the planet, and the little dalek eye keeps popping up in the snow.. and also when Amy is turning into a dalek and Rory is like AMY IS THAT YOU and she slaps him. lol'd

Eh, it seems pretty reasonable to me. I mean, yeah, if it were impeding conversation for ages I'd see the argument that it's unfair, but it doesn't seem unreasonable to hold back for a few hours so people can actually see it without being spoiled; particularly an episode such as this one.

I spoiler tagged to be considerate.

And I would. but EVERY SINGLE SEASON we have americans in here going on about it.

Don't enter the thread.

I'm australian.. usually we're over a week behind.. so I just don't enter the thread... I don't get why people can't do that..

I kind of wish I didn't read this thread even after watching the episode
her coming back, or maybe just her actress, would be goddamn amazing if I didn't know it was coming :T

Yeah, I know. I figured since this is special (season opener and all), I'd be extra considerate. :p

I think it's still goddamn amazing that we know she is coming back.
Edit: As for the spoiler discussion, the rules are in the OP, so this is shitty for no one.

I remember this convo used to happen a lot in LOST threads, since half the U.S. got it an hour or so before the other. The rules have always been that no spoiler tags are needed after the show has aired in its naive country. Of course, if everyone here wants spoiler tags until it's aired in the U.S. then I would be okay with that, but TBH I don't really see the point. We've never been given that before. :p

Although, since it's only 7 or so hours from the U.K. airing to the U.S., maybe it is as good idea.

Doesn't matter, as if they keep the new companion the same as
she was in this episode minus maybe being a Dalek
then no complaints here.

Really great episode, wonder how she's related to Clara?

Zombie Dalek things are the stuff of nightmares.

I think the companion is the same Oswin you see in this episode. I think the Doctor saves her before that planet blows up and then reconverts her into a human looking style Dalek. That's my crazy theory.

It's not about that, it's just about the surprise factor is all

I love online discussion, but surprises are still a nice... uh... surprise

Just realised something:
Nobody ever physically saw what Oswin 'looked' like. She does have a hell of a distinctive voice though.
