I think he ages, just at a much, much slower rate than human analogs would.

People have already commented that Smith looks much older now than he did just two years ago, and that it's an intentional move to signify how much older and wearier he has grown since his run's began.

But The Master advanced Tennant 100 years, and he looked awful. Matt Smith roamed around for twice that, and looks SLIGHTLY older. Hardly noticeable.

The whole deal with Amy and Rory "losing" their child was brushed under the carpet by way of a) they know she becomes River, and b) they spend enough time away from the Doctor to get over it, seemingly (well, they seem less pissed off with him by time they call him via crop circles). So I don't think Night Terrors suffered for its placement as described.

Prediction: Rory & Amy totally aren't over losing Melody, and this plays a big part in how they leave the show. Asylum hinted at as much.

He was also at that time suffering from stupid RTD plot syndrome.

Roamed around doing whatever you wanted vs your arch nemesis uses his super powers against you.

Actually, I think they say in the episode that the Master suspended the Doctor's ability to regenerate before he aged him 100 years.

The Doctor also hovered from the combined worship of the entire population of planet Earth. I think we can just ignore everything about anything that happened in that episode.

Agreed.

So on my quest to rewatch anything crucial to Smith's story arcs I may have missed, I realized I didn't watch the 2011 Christmas special, and to my surprise, it was pretty good. I thought it would be boring which was the whole reason I skipped it in the first place. When he shows up on Amy and Rory's doorstep and they say that they've always held a place for him there almost brought a tear to my eye. Then when the Doctor started crying, I almost bawled.

First I didn't want Amy and Rory gone, then when we saw the new companion I couldn't wait, and now watching the Christmas special I can't bear to watch them leave. They've stuck with the Doctor for so long and he's become an inseperable part of their lives. I dunno, I feel like Angels in Manhattan is definitely going to be emotional.

Well this is the longest we've had a companion in Who. I mean, before there was 4 companions for 5 seasons. We'd only had 2 in 2 and a half seasons since so the Pond's leaving is going to be huge.

I told my wife tonight that Amy and Rory are only going to be around for 3 more episodes and she literally gasped. It's going to suck when they leave.

Feels bad man. :( I've never said this before and actually meant it, but I am bringing the tissues for Angels in Manhattan.

We're due for a return of The Master. I'm sure we'll see him soon. Moff can't keep rehashing Silurian/Dalek/Cybermen/Silence/Weeping Angels forever.

Wouldn't it kinda take away from his whole sacrifice? I'd rather see someone refreshing like Valeyard heralding himself or something.

The fan wank begging for Cumberbatch as The Master is too amazing to pass up. He would make a scary villain on Who.

I maintain that season 6's problem is that it didn't go nearly far enough. It half-tried for more serious, emotional storylines, but then its like they flinched and only halfheartedly tried to give anything consequences and it lends the whole series this weird unreal feeling where big stuff happens and no-one seems to care.

I agree. It was half-measure drama.

I hope they go in a very different direction for 12, personally, as awesome as Cumberbatch would be. Just feel like he'd be too similar to the already-too-similar 9-11.

Yeah, I like Cumberbatch as Sherlock but he feels like he'd be an evolution of Smith's character and Smith already felt like an evolution of Tennant. Someone slightly less deliberately quirky is what I'm hoping for 12. Quirky is part of the Doctor but not, in the words of the Dream Lord, someone who could open a tawdry quirk shop.

I don't really see it as a selfless sacrifice. He was more concerned with getting revenge on the Time Lords than he was saving the Doctor's ass. He'll be back, especially considering Moffat is quite happy to ignore RTD's tenure.

I'm not sure I appreciate what they've done to that guy from Farscape

It is all the extra weight he has put on in the last few years. I remember when he was on Chuck's final season and it took me a bit to realize it was him.

Browder would still have been the perfect Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern movie. Hell, Crichton on Farscape was essentially Hal Jordan.

I get that this was all discussed a few pages back, but I finally got around to watching Saturday's episode.
The intro was just...terrible, the Doctor forming his "gang" for no discernible reason and each member of it not really getting a good introduction because the writers clearly had the thought of "WE NEED DINOSAURS BEFORE THE TITLES" in their mind.

But after it got through that I enjoyed it. Rory's dad was funny, Solomon was a good villain and Robert Webb as one of the robots was fun.

I didn't feel that killing Solomon was too out of character for Matt Smith's Doctor. If only because I don't feel like Smith's Doctor is a very well defined character compared to the last two.

For those not aware: He's been asked - some time ago, now - if he'd appear in an episode of Who.

His response: "Not an episode, no".

Make of that what you will, but the emphasis I make there was very clear in his tone.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
Anyone notice the Christmas theme going on?

Asylum of the Daleks: Surrounded by hundreds of Daleks, the Doctor goads them into exterminating him, giving them a free shot, saying "It's Christmas!"

Dinosaurs on a Spaceship: Rory mentions how he's 31 and doesn't have a Christmas list, the Doctor yells out in response that he does.

A Town Called Mercy (it's from the trailer, but I'm still tagging it to be safe):
The Doctor notes all the anachronisms in this old west setting and wonders who has been reading from his Christmas list.

It may relate to JLC's (re)appearance in the Christmas special and "remembering".

The Doctor's Christmas list comprised of "Have super hot brunette companion replace super hot ginger companion." confirmed!
