What are examples of woke games that people who voted NOPE would skip.
Because, from my understanding woke now just means I dont like thing and is like 99% of games.

If it reaches a cringe-worthy level or affects the entire game, it turns me off from the game. It can prevent me from immersing myself in the game's world. However, if it's handled in a way that could happen in everyday life, it doesn't bother me.

I haven't played TLOUP2. Thought Ellie was annoying in the first game and heard that Joel wasn't there in the second and then there was some lesbian stuff I was supposed to care about but I really don't. I just don't have any interest in such content and when it's story focused I lose the interest in the whole game, feels like it's not made for me.
On the other hand, Elden Ring have some of that as well. But there is no real focus on it and the story telling is vague so it doesn't feel like I miss much if I don't pay attention to it.

I don't care about "wokeness" so much as I care about quality. Life Is Strange is an example of a game with gay main characters, but I enjoyed it a lot because they were well written and the story was awesome and unique. As a result, its a memorable experience that still gives me the feels when I hear the opening theme. As another example, Veilguard, on the other hand, is a game I avoided because the story and writing were very poorly done. I'm not buying a fantasy RPG where the characters talk like they're kids trying not to offend one-another. Its a bloody fantasy RPG, I don't want Marvel dialogue and bad comedy, I want an intense story with grit.

In the TLOU, it has diversity of characters, genders, races, sexuality, etc....
But it doesn't PREACH at you. It just has these characters as....characters. Living their lives in a fucked up apocalyptic world.
Other games like Dragon Age preach to you about this stuff instead of just telling stories of characters.

By modern standards Tomb Raider would be woke because the main character is a woman.
I don't really care who I'm playing as but I'm bored to death of representation for representations sake and endless girl bosses. Oh and surgery scars in your character creator can fuck off.
Just tell good stories with interesting, well developed characters and fun gameplay. The latter of which feels like it's really stagnated over the last few years in AAA games.

Except it is the youtube grifters. The idea of what is woke and what isn't is NOT clear at all to the general public. There is no pattern of wokeness/DEI in games. Some people are just hyper fixated on finding it in every piece of media these days. People form their own opinions are influenced by influencers, some of which are exaggerating the problem of wokeness and DEI in gaming and other media.

So Wife was interested in dragon age. She watched a preview and was so put off but the writing and delivery that the game was right off the table. The preview did not show any explicitly woke stuff, and as far as I know she doesn't know about any of that. I'm preeeetty sure there is a strong link between it being conspicuously, distractingly woke and the writing and performance being bad.
Meanwhile in bugsnax everything that moved was gay and we loved it lol.

Think about it. Why do you think those people on YouTube get so many views in the first place? It's not because people want to be influenced, but because they already agree with the youtuber in the first place.
You must be blind or living under a rock if you think there isn't a pattern of DEI in videogames. Dude, Dustborn, Unknown 9, SW Outlaws, Dragon Age Veilguard, fucking Concord and the upcoming AC Shadows to name just a few.
I don't think the problem is being exaggerated at all. Games are not selling, companies are going bankrupt and people are pissed about it. You can choose to look away if you want, but the problem is definetly there.

Sure felt preachy to me, girl was going on an on about the jews and the holocaust and I just wanted to shoot some clickers or bad guys.
It's cool to have characters explain their backgrounds, but I think there are better ways to do it. More show, less tell. A lot of modern games seem to have trouble with this.

It became noticeable in 2020. At first it people would just laugh at it, "oh another strong female MC" etc etc. Then more and more games started being 'woke'. Borderlands 3 is pure testosterone blocker gaming, with way too many female characters taking charge while the male characters cry about a froyo shop getting blown up. It's tired and played out. People know it when they see it and they're done with it. Just look at the reaction to Intergalactic.
Sounds like the journalist grifters have told you it's not there so you just blindly believe them.

I can't say I agree with your world view that men and women have their "place". Part of the attraction of video games is the fantasy and escapism they offer, after all. As well, a well written character is never defined solely by their role or gender. It's a mixture of elements that talented people bring to life which then resonates with the audience. The problem with 'woke' writing is that most of it comes across as self-inserts and/or characters written solely to lecture and patronize the audience. The people who write this way likely don't realize this either. It's that lack of talent and awareness that makes 'woke' products so unappealing to me.

It's not patronizing to think that influencers actually influence people. There are games that include DEI and some of those games are bad. I don't think it's obvious that DEI/wokeness is hurting sales, that's just a conclusion many gaffers have jumped to. There is a hyper fixation on these DEI/woke elements in games that many don't even notice. I really enjoyed Spiderman 2 and it wasn't until after I platinumed it did I realize how much hate there was for it from the anti-woke. There were DEI elements in some of the side quests, but it really didn't bother me and I never felt preached to. Lots of games and media coming out nowadays are like this: enjoyed by the general public, but right-wing and anti-woke folks speak loudly about what they disapprove of the game, and there's a sort of hivemind mentality about it.

Bro. Ubisoft, one of the biggest game devs, is about to either close forever or get bought by Tencent.
DEI generates a lot of bad press. Just look at the reaction for the Intergalactic reveal and the like-dislike ratio on it's trailer. You think it's going to sell as much as TLOU? I doubt it. But I guess we'll see.
A lot people having the same opinion doesn't mean it's a hivemind, specially when the opinion could be taken as common sense.
In any case, if you think the general public is fine with this stuff, just go have a look at the reactions for Rings of Power or Snow White. You say it's "just" the right wingers and the anti-woke, but, what if those end up becoming the general opinion? Because I think we are headed towards that direction.

TLOU message is anti-woke.
The message I got from the game is screw your utopian society, just protect your family. Protect your family because you know, in your heart, it is the right thing to do. Because you know that society doesn't give a damn about your or your family and only you can protect them. Society is a selfish blamestorming bitch that knows nothing but the endless cycle of life and death that it watches without care or remorse. Society is temporary, humans are selfish and malevolent, and your family is all you have. Don't sacrifice Ellie to the alter of society.
That was the lesson of TLOU1.
TLOU2 tries to counter that message by showing us the folly of that type of mentality, but it utterly fails to convince.
In order to make TLOU1's ending woke, one would need to see Joel and Ellie punished for their anti-woke behavior, which is what we got in TLOU2. The reason I could predict every story beat is because I knew eventually a wokie would get ahold of it and feel the need to course correct. The series should have stopped with the first game.

I'm done with it. Especially when source material is ruined in order to push an agenda. The most recent example being Witcher 4. Love the series but will not be buying it because of their blatant disrespect for the lore.
If I ever do play it it'll be pirated with mods removing as much as needed. Most likely I'll just forget about the game since it's now tarnished in my eyes.

Because their expensive attempts to make a live service game have flopped, Star Wars Outlaws struggled to impress and AC Shadows got delayed.
All the predictions that TLOU2 was going to flop due to gamer outrage turned out to be completely wrong.
Hogwarts Legacy and BG3 had 'woke' elements and went on to be the best selling games of 2023.
When Naughty Dog wows everyone with the visuals and spectacular action in subsequent trailers, nobody's going to care about likes-dislikes ratio.
Screeching against games because the lead female character isn't exceptionally pretty isn't exactly 'common sense'.

Perhaps the Ubisoft open world formula is getting stale and their quality control across the board has gone down? Wokeness may have contributed to worse sales for Ubi, but it isn't obvious because there are other factors to point to. There IS a hivemind complaining about wokeness that isn't so readily defined. What you find woke, others aren't necessarily going to but it's an easy thing to complain about in general. When we get into specifics, such as a specific game, there are plenty of disagreements about what is woke and what isn't.

I feel like the word needs some qualifications first. Because it seems like 90% of what people call "woke" these days is not like Disco Elysium or Bioshock leftist politics (which, oddly enough, none of you seem to consider woke) but rather the existence of a black character anywhere in the game or some banal shit that Grummz told you to be mad about.
I generally don't notice or think about most of the shit people call "woke" in a game, i.e. the existence of racial or sexual minorities anywhere in the game. I live in a big diverse city and this sort of representation mirrors everyday life to me in a way that feels normal, not forced the way it does for some people.
But I also don't care if that shit isn't there either, like I don't avoid games for being "un-woke" either, I just don't care and find the whole discourse contrived engagement bait on both sides.
Now that said, if a game is cringe, then it's cringe. Dustborn can fuck off because it's badly written, embarrassing try-hard virtue signalling shit, and it doesn't have anything else to make up for it.

Can you point to one example of this? I remember journalist grifters having a meltdown over there not being black people in KCD but not anyone being upset that a game had a black character somewhere in it.
