Doom (2016) PC performance thread

So, update now that I've had time with the game.

My PC:

Core i5 2500k @4.4ghz
12GB DDR3 1600
GTX 980(Stock)
Windows 10 64 bit
500gb WD blue HD

I played through most of my 7-8 hours with the game so far with the drivers right before the latest geforce release(something something.10?), the last two hours of that was spent with the new drivers.
Amazing port with tons of options.
Anyway, I got pretty steady performance unlocked 60-75 FPS with the new drivers I am seeing gains of like 30-40 fps and in some situations more than that. In fact, most of the time it runs at 100 FPS now, with moments where it will go in excess of 120(140 or so was the highest I saw) with very rare dips below 100 FPS. Honestly, I am fucking astonished as I am playing on Ultra.

open GL on AMD has been pretty bad for a long time iirc. Vulkan should be much better.

Vulkan is essentially built off of the foundation laid by Mantle? Yeah that should give a nice boost then, BF4 in Mantle mode makes a rather big difference.

The first time I booted it up, the Bethesda logo glitched like crazy and took about a whole minute to get through. I just ended via the task manager and updated Nvidia drivers (Win 10 also updated during the reboot). Then I haven't had any problems at all. Probably the best PC port to come out in a while (that I've played) with so many great options.

My setup:

i7 5820K
EVGA GTX 970

If you get motion sickness, take a break and increase FOV (which has side effect of increasing the feeling of speed even more...).

Heh, I'm all good...just took a moment to get used to. Even my wife was like "Can you stop doing that?" when I was running in a circle. :D

I never ever have an issue with this kind of stuff but something different was going on here than I was used to I guess.

So based on this post:

i5 3570 @3.4 Ghz
Gtx 970
16gb DDR3 Ram

Running at a fairly stable frame rate of 120fps at 1080p. Mix of high and ultra settings.

This fucking game is amazing and butter smooth.

and this one from the OT:

If you've got a 120hz monitor, the game can output around 110-120 at high settings with ease on a 970. Tweak a few settings here and there (drop AA from TSAA to TAA), and you'll get a steady 120.

I'm going to order a 970 and hope for the best. Might have to upgrade cpu/ram. Will try video card first. My 560ti/8gb ram/i5-2500k (no overclock) is running it at 20-60fps with everything on low/off. Looks way too ugly though and I want 120fps!

Nvidia drivers safe to use now? I'm still on 362 and will just suffer with the poor performance if a bricked card is what I might see by upgrading.

GTX 970 with a 120 hz monitor here.

Does anyone find this game doesn't look smooth in certain scenarios? I'm playing with everything on max settings, and I find that sometimes during a heavier fight i'll drop to 80 fps according to afterburner and the built in FPS counter, but it feels more like sub 30 FPS for a second. Framerate counter never goes below 80 though, so I don't get it.

Intel Xeon x5650 @ 4ghz
GTX 970
24 GB Ram
Game is installed on an SSD

does this new nvidia Driver help DOOM performance at all? 365.19?

Or is this the one you guys have been playing on and I just didn't update until now? Because I just got the update notice.

Setting texturing cache to low and disabling reflections makes a world of difference. If anybody's struggling with this game on an older card, I highly recommend flipping those options down! My GTX 760 can now run this game pretty well on a mix of medium to high, with the worst drops happening when there's a lot going on on-screen. The worst I've gotten is 35fps, and it's only ever momentarily.

My PC:
Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit
Acer XB270H G-sync 144hz 1080p monitor
6700k oced to 4.5ghz
EVGA 980 Ti Classified @ stock settings
32 GB's of 3200mhz DDR4 RAM

I am running the game at 1080p with max settings with all the Nightmare settings on that are available. I'm only in the 2nd level or so, but the game doesn't seem to go below 90fps, with highs in the 120-144fps range. They told me I was nuts for getting a 980 Ti for 1080p. This is why. High frame rates with G-sync for a game like Doom is a reason to live for.

Weirdly enough, I have no sound on the menu of the game. When I first launched it I had sound, but now I only have sound in game? Oh well, if that's the most of the problems I have then that's fine >.>

I'm confused here. With my specs below I am only able to get to 60 FPS when literally everything in both video settings and advanced settings are set to low / off at 720p using the latest Nvidia Drivers 365.19.

Windows 10 Home
Intel Core i7 6700HQ
Nvidia GeForce GTX 960m 4Gb
16 Gb DDR4 Ram

What's happening?
Also what on earth is the codex button? It keeps saying it's not bound to anything but there's no option for it in the key bind menu.

Well this is weird. When i open DOOM and select X mission, the game runs at 60 fps no problem but if i exit to the main menu and select another mission, let's say mission Y, i get a loss of about 20 fps during pretty much the whole level. If i exit to the main menu and select mission X again i get fps drops here too even though it was running just fine before.

In order for me to play any missions at 60 fps again, i have to exit the game, open it again and then select what mission i want to play. Loading any other mission would cause fps drops.

As anybody else been having this issue? It's really anoying.

i5 core 4430 @ 3.00GHz
GTX 960 2 GB
8GB ram DDR3
Windows 10 64 bits

I'm playing with high settings btw. Changing the settings to low doesn't even make a difference.

Did you use the low preset, or did you manually set everything to it's lowest setting? B/c I don't think reflections are disabled unless you manually set them to off, and that gave me the biggest performance boost. You might also want to make sure you've got nothing running in the background. Also, the codex button should be tab on KB+M.

so for gsync do you turn Vsync to off or adaptive? I currently have it set to off, just wondering.

seems like between 40-60 for 1440p on a 2500k and 970 Everything on ultra.

Everything was manually set to the lowest / off. Even when getting between 60 - 80 FPS with these settings the game still feels like sub 60 FPS. It's still feels laggy to me.

The TAB key only shows me mission objectives.

There should be other tabs in the mission objective menu, one of them is specifically for codex. They're at the top of the screen, and I'm guessing you just click on them.

Also, I'm sorry. :'/ Not really sure what else you could do at this point. I was having similar issues, and this fixed it for me. Maybe try reinstalling drivers?

There's gotta be a patch incoming, though. Lots of people are having mixed experiences, and I doubt they're going to leave it at this.

The game isn't even starting for me and if it does it is like a Powerpoint slideshow. I have a 980ti based PC. All other games run fine.

Trying to install the latest driver now and see if it fixes that.

i5-4690k OC to 4.3
GTX 970
16gb RAM
1440p monitor

I am playing on ultra except for shadows which are at high and 1440p borderless window mode.

I am getting a steady 60 fps with occasional dipping to 55 fps during heavy fights. It's not very noticeable but it's there. I'll probably need to turn down a few more settings to make it much smoother. Anyone know which settings are good for increasing fps while not reducing the graphics too noticeably?

I can't click on anything because I am still in control of the character. The mouse moves where I aim.

Had the same issue. Updating drivers helped (but you're already doing that so...)

To be honest I never heard that a nvidia driver update was able to brick a card. Maybe changing the bios or something like that but a driver update? No.

According to some posts in here and the official OT. Yes the newest drivers help a lot.

For some reason my surround sound isn't working with this. Sound is only coming out of my front speakers. They work fine for other games.

I have a Sound Blaster X-Fi card. Anyone heard of this happening with this game?

EDIT: I found the solution.

Playback devices > Right click on your speakers and go to Properties > Advanced > Changed the default format from 48000 Hz to 44100 HZ

Not sure why this caused a problem with this game and this game only, but oh well.

Running everything on Ultra turn chromatic aberration off it is the worst.

I7-2600k
1080p resolution i can do downsample but it is good for me this way.
16gig memory
GTX 970 with the latest nvidia drivers.
Windows 10 64 bit

A very solid framerate overall no dips had 1 ctd but i am getting a GTX 1080 by the end of this month.

I suspect it started with integrated GPU instead of the actual one for some reason. Would easily explain things.
Now, figuring out why it would do that... no idea.
On desktop PC the game (or anything for that matter) cannot run on integrated GPU if dedicated is connected. It's not a laptop.

980TI
5820K
Ultra

3440x1440

Lol initially I had the 360.52. Drivers before nvidia turned shit and was 45-60 fps at +215mhz. Updated to the Doom ready this morning and now same settings constant 60fps.

Sorry if this has already been discussed.

How will Vulkan effect the performance of the game on my GTX 680?

Same as DX12, it will enable better CPU management, which will increase framerate in DX11/opengl CPU bottlenecking situations. As for pure GPU gains, that will happen only if they invest time in better GPU optimization [for example, move async compute from console use to PC [well, Radeon] space].

@ 800x600 all settings turned off/lowest (the game looks like poop)

and it still runs at 10 fps... all the time.

By the way I did a fresh install of windows 10 last night (not for doom LOL) and installed the latest nvidia drivers. There is no other program interfering.

Specs
i5 4690k
GTX 770

My monitor's max res is 1360x768. I know it's a problem with the game, cause I was able to run the beta maxed 60+ fps with the same rig, except I had a $40 celeron cpu lol.

This morning I was able to run it fast but then it started lagging again. I restarted my PC and still lags. I don't know what to do

I have almost the same specs with your same problem. Verifying cache solved my issue.

This happens with me as well. Boot into the game, main menu is completely silent. No background music, and when navigating through the menus to load a save, or adjust settings, no sounds for selecting things either. Usually the selection sounds start working within a few minutes. Not sure what the deal is. Once I get in game and load my save, the audio seems to be fine.

edit: quick look online seems like others are reporting the problem too. Might have to do with soundcards / 5.1 setups? I am running a Xonar DG card on my PC to a pair of headphones. Maybe that has something to do with it? As best I can tell the sound (music, voice, SFX) seems to work without issue during gameplay, just no sound at the main menu. Weird.

I put +com_skipIntroVideo in the start options but it still shows the intro, what am I doing wrong?

You missed the 1. It's 0 by default, so if you just put +com_skipintrovideo, nothing will change.

Tips and tricks:
...
Skip intro videos: Append +com_skipIntroVideo 1 to the game's launch options (right-click -> Properties -> Set launch options). (Credit to Sinatar.)

Right I've managed to fix my full screen problem, tick disable scaling for high dpi displays in compatibility tab, now it runs at 1080p ultra between 80-130fps on my R9 nano, AMD's frame rate target in Crimson don't work so I either have to run full chat or locked vsync.

My nano also runs a locked 30 at high in 4K which surprised me.

I can't select any of the nightmare options as it won't allow them due to not having 5gb ram, need a way to override it as at present my nano is only using 2.4gb at most according to the gpuz log.

Enjoying the game but can't play again until kids are in bed tonight

R9 280x 3GB (1100/1600)
2560x1440 @ 120Hz
Game running from 850EVO
Non-WHQL Crimson 16.5.2

Pretty much everything on high except for decals and lights set to ultra. Turned off DOF and set motion blur to 'low' (not a fan of the effect anyhow) with MSAA and 4x AF.

I'm getting between 35 ~ 53 FPS; not great, but pretty good for the old 280x at that res. It'll do until the summer upgrade.

Everything maxed and getting a fixed 60fps all the time

i4690k msi970oc

After all the problems i had with ID5 on Wolfenstein this is a god send, amazing engine

Quick update: dropping shadows to 'medium' bought me almost 15 FPS! Seems that is the easiest way to get back some frames.

I'm reading comments everywhere that people with 760 and 770 GTX cards are running the game smoothly.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but my FPS are all over the place and even with V-sync on, game feels stuttery even @ 60 FPS. Even at the lowest settings

I'm really loving the game but I'm still fighting with the game settings with little results.

so maxed out after fixing my fps problems on a single titan x 1440p including nightmare settings sitting between 80-120. Runs great and the music is amazing

I'm getting nowhere near that fps at 1440p at max settings. Maybe 45-60, at most. Running a Titan Black with a 6700k, 16gb. Gonna continue to tinker with it.

Hey I just started the game and messed around with video and advanced. But when I try to start the game I get this message.

any ideas?

And which setting have the most impact on performance? I am getting odd spikes in fps.

edit: getting the screenshot to show up.
