DOOM TDA disc data is 85MB and 27 Xbox games (Kena, Gylt, etc) have disappeared from various EU Xbox Stores

This is why left consoles for PC. Collecting physical media was the only thing worth while that was left.
You realize game key disc is still better than digital store purchase ?
It does not tie the game to your account and should possibly work offline fully after installing

As said above, there are still numerous advantages to this - mainly that unlike digital you can still sell this on when done.

A game key disc, talk about adopting ideas quickly.
Man, these soulless physical hurt my gaming spirit. It's the future, but they hurt it nevertheless.
I don't understand the point - this is for all intents and purposes a 100% digital copy. I guess if this stick gamers really are a stupid bunch.

I had to look up tenderfoot, fuck these morons.
If this is the reason the games are delisted I'll be surprised. The entire industry is full of companies on the brink of collapse, yet we have some small companies (allegedly) choosing reduced income.

Holding on for dear life to the concept of consoles being a good thing for game consumers. But but but....

Yikes. This is not what we want if the future is indeed all digital. God I wish physical was still viable. You streamers/renters have made a MASSIVE mistake here…

Doesn't matter. No ownership, bad pricing, paid online gaming.

Don't see the problem with this.
What's the issue?

If you don't care about paying for a worthless coaster, then there is no issue. If you care about playing the game if you got it early, ownership and preservation, I guess you are out of luck.

Digital future enthusiast I see. You don't like owning stuff ?
No a realist. The writing was on the wall a long time. Had a massive physical collection and was a console enthusiast since the Mega Drive and had almost every console. (C64 player before that) But old skool gaming is gone in this future and ever since I had useless Xbox Series discs, PS5 discs with bar bones game versions requiring day one patches and digital only consoles becoming a thing, it was clear which way things were going and it was time to leave the sinking ship. I don't want to get stuck in a console ecosystem. Besides that, I wish I got a PC sooner. I didn't because i was a console apologist and used the standard reasoning to not get a PC. I can't go back now. Console is a curated experience without freedom.

You need to install games on ps4 and onwards. Can't plat it from disc.

The switch however is just fine.
Also lol at those gamekey cartridges on switch 2

You don't understand at all.

Games don't need patches most of time. You can play as is 1.0. But why do you teveb consider the inability to download patches ?! It makes no sense.
If you can't download a patch, you will not be able to download a game either.

And with a disc, you will be able to play 1.0 or continue playing patched version if you have it installed.
You are not touched by any account t hacks or banning. Game is never tied to your account. And hell, if you want you can sell your collection.

Did anyone took your sega? If you still had the system and games, you could still connect and play it.

You don't understand that I don't give two shits about consoles anymore and I certainly don't care about playing some shitty version of a game when a better patched version exists. Consoles till ps3 and Xbox 360 were awesome. After that they suck. You also don't understand digital rights management and EULA's, even in the 360 days I got a two day ban from Microsoft and I still don't know why and Xbox fuckyouservice which passes as consumer ervice certainly couldn't tell me.

Another thing I don't like is waiting for a patch to replay your old games at 60 fps. How many are begging for a RDR2 patch? I'm currently replaying RDR2 at ultra settings with 120fps. And Rockstar didn't do shit to facilitate that.
On PC I get to replay classics in ways you can't on console, let's not even get started about mods.

But hey, enjoy your console(s) and I mean that. Different folks different tastes I the end it's about enjoying what you like.

I agree. Switch differentiated from PC by being...a handheld instead of a PC, and having data on cart. So I've been maining PC/Switch. But now they are altering the deal. If first party N games were like this too, I'd be out. It's the last thread hanging on, and who knows how much longer even that lasts.

Ignorant

Yeah, this sounds like something that could happen on Xbox.
Count Me In Lets Go GIF

Because i don't agree with you? Fuck off.
Still ignorant.
You can not agree with me.

But there is nothing to agree with. All I said are empirical facts. Things that just are.
And then you went on and on how console games are worse version... right... take the stuttering and expensive hardware will you on the way out.

But daddy Phil said he believes in preservation and physical games
Daddy Phil got the bad ozempic and looks like he's malnourished if you've seen him recently.

Bros job is to lie, and he's terrible at it. This man is collecting checks until he retires which he could do any day he wanted honestly.

I'll leave it at fuck off. Edit, no wait:

Read your dumbass post again and you apparently can't even read correct. I was referring to the unpatched game discs you were rambling on about, the 1.0 versions on disc. Which I said I don't care about when a better patched versions of the game exists, by which i meant the patched console game. Which you don't get on the disc. Bar some late releases and even then. Read it again: "I certainly don't care about playing some shitty version of a game when a better patched version exists."

You are the typical console fanboy warrior. I hope you are a 16 year old. Which would make it a little less pathetic.
Now you can fuck off again.

A lot of people seem confused over that. The point of physical is the data is on the disc and I own the disc. Whether it streams from the disc or installs is completely irrelevant and won't make a difference in 40 years if the servers go down.

Yup, seeing people still conflating installs with digital downloads is so goddamn annoying.

Damn you are stupid.
Unpatched game discs?

What's the problem with those?

And if you meant unpatched "game key" discs, then what? I will be able to install that disc for as long as you will be able to install it from digital store....

Your crusade about patches is fucking nonsense. Why do you think I cannot patch a game disc now or in 50 years?! Why do you think I cannot install and patch a game today and just not remove it?
It's the same as you installing a game from a digital store.
My shitty version of a game is still better than no game if your account gets hacked... And if you had a a disc, you would just install and patch the game on new account.

when the servers get taken down then you cant patch it anymore eventually. and in cases like this doom game, when the servers eventually get taken down then you cant install the game anymore.

ok? What's the point here?
And when servers get taken down, You won't be able to install and play doom from your digital store.
I will still be able to play my 1.0 disc games and games like Doom if I have them installed since with games like this (patched games), You only need the disc to authorize. Don't need to be online unless new doom is different.

Who cares? Like legit. Everything will be available to download in the future. I only download stuff i own. For me it's how easy it is to start playing.

Also disc-rot so gl with that. 3DO games and even neogeo cd games are dying.

Cart media is the only thing i like.
And most of my gbc cart games battery saves died… yes i can replace them. I could also just redownload them and play them on my analogue pocket.

Disc rot does not apply to blurays. And supposedly even dvds are way tougher than the old cds were.
Besides, for disc rot to appear, you need bad living conditions like cellar or attic for years.
yeah, cart media seems good. Especially if it's SD or some normal format.

Yep. I want to own it and have it on my shelf.
Once the servers go down, 1.0 will remain, patches and download versions will not obviously... but by then we will have remakes of remakes of remakes and playable other versions.
Like - how often are you guys reaching for 360? And that's a generation which has plenty of exclusives on it still. It was last non bc generation.
But tbh, I don't think big servers like steam or psn will ever go down. Maybe they will stop purchases from the store in the future but you will always be able to patch that game. As long as you live.
if not? You can buy big nvme, install all your games and if I am correct - you only need a disc to authorize that. Digitals need to go online after 2 weeks I think?

Best is steam technically because you can install and backup all your games and just crack them. At least technically. I can't imagine doing that

I care, and many other people on these forums do too.

I don't care about disc rot, my house burning down, getting robbed. Those are all issues we face with everything we own. My car will eventually break I better just give up ownership and uber everywhere. My house will eventually burn down I better give up ownership and rent for the rest of my life.

I want to own a disc with the software embedded in the plastic like we've done for decades. If a company wants to change the rules then I just won't give them money.

I've recently noticed that a lot of my blu-ray discs from the early days (~2006) have started to turn brownish-purple and won't play. These aren't BD-R or bootlegs.

interesting. Maybe some new thing we discover is affecting these.
My early 360 games work great.

Flip side - your house burns down.

Your physical collection is ash.

Your digital collection is still waiting for you to download again.

Like it or not, it's the future, with pros and cons.

The only thing I truly hate about digital games are the single player games that are dependent on online servers. Fuck that shit.

Honestly, who the hell cares? The game is out on PC. Even if it's removed everywhere, it'll still be available one way or another. I really don't understand the big deal.

I understand that some people might not have the best internet, but back in the day I was spending multiple days downloading random MMORPGS I wanted to play.

People will be able to handle it.

Or am I seeing this whole situation the wrong way?

It's weird that PC players, of all people, are suddenly okay with having less choice.

You're looking at it the wrong way. Some people still like physical games . why should they just accept something they don't like?

It's strange behavior to lecture people for liking physical gaming, just because you don't care about it anymore.

Would you buy a digital artbook just because it would be save if your house burns down? Well I wouldn't care for that artbook for a second.

Why are we accepting less choice all of the sudden.

I heard WB discs from like 2006-2010 are very susceptible to this. Some kinds manufacturing defect I heard?

PC players haven't had a choice for 15 years at this point.

Mmm.

A bit of a difference between an art book and a game, is there not?

A game - digital or physical - you are playing the exact same thing and having the exact same experience.

Anyway, I'm not saying I'm fine with the death of physical games - I completely understand a lot of people want them for their own personal reasons. I just think the medium is moving on and there are many reasons why physical is no longer possible or practical for every game.

Technically there isn't. Publishers do want more money and that is the only reason for physical games to die.

How did they identify those 27 delisted games among thousands of the other games?

Obviously, someone who really wanted Xbox to look bad checked thousands of Xbox games every day hoping they make a mistake.

It's horrible. I hope that one day they catch him and he ends up in jail.

There is absolutely zero point in purchasing any Microsoft or associated first-party published games on consoles since you are just buying an empty disc with a link to a download. It is why I stopped buying Xbox Series X games some time ago and now no longer buy Xbox Series X games at all or subscribe to GamePass (I cancelled my subscription back in May 2024).

I'm not a PC player. I play on all the consoles these days. Never on PC.

I'm 100% digital for quite a while, I really don't see what's the fuzz is about. Probably some ideological/philosophical stuff, but I deem those really minor and irrelevant.
