Dota 2 Beta Thread: [Brewmaster]

You can ignore people through the scoreboard and just report them, don't think I've ever seen people get that mad though. Honestly though the beta really isn't the best way to get into the game without any other experience.

I learned how to mute players after the game was done, but the funny thing was that my game bugged so I didn't even see the chatmenu of people going nuts until spookie told me to shrug it off.

Same here, I had no idea people could get THIS mad at a game, I could almost taste their tears in the chat. Damn people, it's a videogame ( and this is from a guy who bit, yes bit, his 360 controllers to shreds while playing SF4)

I must be incredibly lucky, because I've yet to meet angry idiots like that.

Oh I'm just salty, I'm sure there are nice people out there but they seem to be a silent minority.

Corky certainly has thicker skin than that.

Without question Krobelus. That's exactly one of her signature skills. Kind of a boring hero IIRC though. There are still some really popular, classic heroes that aren't in yet that I wish they'd get to, like Treant, Phantom Lancer and Clinkz.
Krobelus boring hero, then a request for Treant in the next sentence lol.
A certain someone on these forums (I won't name any names ) once said in my presence that he didn't level powershot because it was worthless because he couldn't hit anything with it.
Expose this person please.

Okay so per GAF suggestion I've been rolling Dazzle the past two nights. I really enjoy the character so far. My issue is I feel like I die at the drop of a hat. I just get crushed by basically anyone and everyone, and I feel like I can't ever really run away. I just get wtfpwnt and 2 shotted.

Welcome to Dazzle and any support hero in general.

Though at least Dazzle has the luxury of shielding himself and hopefully run away long enough that allies TP in and counter gank.

You need to learn better positioning really, which will help when you play other roles. Most games when I go Support I rarely die. Also you can Shallow Grave and TP out.

Dota2 seems pretty well mannered compared to HoN from what I've experienced so far.
Once everyone is playing though I fully expect it to become the gaming world's shit hole, the very bottom of the dumpster.

Hopefully the commend/report system works out and the ragers play with each other while normal human beings can have enjoyable games.

Corky I hope you won't stop playing. That's excactly what they want, don't let them win! You should try playing with other gaffers and preferably ventrilo/skype/mumble and just try to ignore them.

The thing is that the shit talking won't stop even after you become very good. I've even seen some people call Dendi and Link bunch of noobs on their streams (ingame).

This community isn't very welcoming >_>

Edit: Also in your pic the guy who is calling you names gets called names too. Best thing to do is not take it personally because I feel that in Dota everyone just rages just for the sake of it. It's never their fault they died.

Dota community is generally more well mannered then HoN, the influx of BM is naturally because of the influx of HoN players, if you compare attitudes from when 600 was the highest number of people compared to 12000 it's night and day.

It is going to happen with any small-sized team game where one person can sink the team or be perceived as sinking the team. The funny part is that if they weren't dicks like that they'd probably have enough friends online so that they could always play together.

Yeah I know mate, it's funny when people just go all out though. This is me tyrant and efe playing xD

How does GAF arrange games?

Playing by myself was terrible, I should have been Zeus or Sniper. Pudge is a pubstomper for sure.

I was 2/0/0 as Dragon Knight when I noticed the score was 2 - 13

I proceeded to finish 4/8/?

ugh

He is talking about League of Legends :>

Honestly League of Legends was worse. Dota 2 players, for the most part, remain mute. It gets worse as more people are invited, but... yeah. I'm sure once Dota 2 is open to everyone, it'll be the worst of the bunch, but for now...

I wish there was some sort of feedback on my reports. I'd like to know if these assholes I'm reporting are getting their due. U: Probably never will for obvious reasons, but yeah.

I figured as much. Thanks!

I died less last night because of my positioning as I actively tried to work on that. I feel like I still can get owned from people with long range skill shots though and can't do anything about it.

I think part of it is that fact that even though I can get owned playing support (Soraka usually) in LoL I feel like it takes them longer to wtfpwn me so I can get back to my tower or allies for safety.

Should I bother buying some type or armor for Dazzle or just not bother since as support I don't have a ton of cash to work with other than assist $$$.

Shut it bad.

This game just makes people mad. Just wait corky you'll be raging soon. One of us...

When I play Dazzle I follow the recommended build pretty closely and it works well most of the time.

Boots, Magic Wand, Power Treads, Urn of Shadows, Mekansm is my usual build. Mekansm will give everyone around you armor, as will your ult (if you actually hit them with it). After that I go Scythe of Vyse if the game lasts long enough.

I'll also get a Soul Ring early on if I'm doing really poorly on mana (i.e., if the enemy in my lane is being super aggressive). It's usually not an issue.

I've met some really nice people in Dota and some really big jerks in LoL. I think LoL's community is slightly better behaved, but still a cesspool. The best thing to do is try to be friendly and ignore the assholes.

It really gets under people's skin because it's such a team dependent game and it's so easy to be completely retarded and useless in it. At least in a team driven FPS, the way you play it is simple: shoot the people who are a different color. In a complex RTS like SC2, you don't depend on a teammate if you're 1v1ing. In Dota, people will get VERY mad at you for failing.

All MOBA games tend to be a cesspool of whiners and crybabies who refuse to admit that they were wrong. Hell, even I'm like that sometimes. This genre just make people like that. It's because it's a very teameffort heavy game.

Which is why I very rarely play with pubs. Although SOME of the people I play with like to rage anyway ahem-hem.

DotA 1 certainly wasn't any more mannered than HoN.

People left after first blood all the time, people left because they didn't get a solo lane, people mocked the ever living shit out of you if you died more than 3 times, etc.

I've actually had many games in LoL where pubs are genuinely congratulating each other and being completely mannered. I don't remember having that more than like once in DotA 1.

Yeah the way people play fps' now is extremely lone wolf even in something like bf. In dota everybody can see you just missed a stun or had a bad ult and it effects everyone.

I'm pretty sure there was a picture on reddit where there was a comparions of BF3 and MW3 where the former had an army and the latter had Rambo. Anyway, mistakes happen sometimes like a bad ult or initiate. What happens is that people go on and on and on about it instead of saying it was a bad once or twice. People are super bitter because they're so anal about everything.

So I played my first game after downloading last night. After playing HoN it just felt weird. It's going to take a while to get used to the differences.

For some reason it wouldn't let me bind my middle mouse button to anything. I was trying to bind it to the top middle item slot (default keypad 8) and it wouldn't let me. The game feels a lot slower, and I am not used to hero appearances/abilities yet so it's hard to gauge safe zones for me right now. I also am not used to the minimap. I need to turn off player colors or something, if there is an option.

I had hoped I would be able to jump right in, but I can tell I am going to need to play a handful of practice games to get everything down in Dota 2. The biggest thing I am missing right now are built in guides and auto ability leveling. I can't quite figure out the auto-buy thing yet either. I figured I could just stick items on there and it would buy the components as you could afford them, but it doesn't seem to function like that.

Oh, and is there a default binding for the courier?

Yeah it sure is amazing. I must say this has to be the most vitriolic community I've ever participated in. BF/COD/SF/WoW, all of them have their ratio of jerks:goodguys but dear lord dota2 is something else... everybody keeps cussing and screaming at eachother. What spookie didn't manage to get a screengrab of was the opposite team calling me things, now that's a new one.

I just played my first game last night. I was amazed... in a good way.

There was a Dark Ranger on our team that helped guide me along and offering advice after I told him it was my first game. He coordinated attacks for our team and led us to victory. He even got on his mic to do it. It's a shame that this is probably a rare case.

I was glad that I could submit positive feedback towards him at the end of the match.

My experience with HoN was that it's the people who are good enough to be mediocre who are the most vocal with bad manners. It's like they get just enough skill to be able to call people out on not doing well, and then they do it. The best players I played with were encouraging and helpful and tended not to make as much noise at mistakes.

So for the Drow Ranger, frost arrows are permanently "on"? It says it's an active, but I'm not sure what exactly activating it does.

I haven't messed with her yet, but some skills have toggles. Try alt+key and see if it highlights it. Or maybe a right click will do the trick.

If you left click or press Q, the target you select will be hit by a frost arrow for that one attack, just as if it were a regular targetable spell. If you want to keep it always on, you need to right click it to activate auto-cast which will modify your attack to always make it frosty.

Unless you have a lot of mana regen you'll want to keep it off auto-cast unless you're attacking enemy heroes, or you'll find yourself out of mana when it comes time to use your silence.

Am I crazy for getting the arcane boots instead of the power treads? The arcane boots help me keep my mana up without much worry.

You can cycle Treads to INT if you need a slight mana boost. I like going Arcane on STR heroes who are mana hungry (ES, Omni, Sand King and Tide) and going Treads on squishier INT heroes for the survivability boost.

You can get a soul ring on Dazzle to help with your mana, it will trade your hp for mana which you can just heal back anyway. Decent and cheap newbie item on him but ultimately you should get to a point where mana is not a problem on dazzle so much as just keeping him alive is and there are many items that will do both far better.

Oh, and is there a default binding for the courier?

For player Mini-map colors, "Simple Map Colors" will make everyone's icon Green and Red. Not sure if it is the default key, but have C set to the Courier. Then just use the ability keys to tell it to grab and bring you your stuff.

Sick skills mate.

Edit: go for kills, don't need last hits 8)

6 or 7 creeps gives you just as much gold as a kill does. It is not really an effective way to farm, killing them is best done to keep them underpowered.

Nah, just remember that by getting them, you don't get a stats boost your self. But its a nice mid game support item, gives most people enough mana to do 1 or 2 more skills. The 250 mana is more then the 104 you can get by toggling Treads, but you will loose on the damage you can get with both Phase Boots and Treads.

Anther thing to point out, you can take them apart. Sadly, the Energy Booster can only be used in one other item tree (You can make a Soul Booster With it, which can be used in Bloodstone), so it is only useful if you are just loaded with cash or have a good number of free spots.
