Chat going in on Lumi for saying LD is too squishy to be good late game when the bear utterly wrecked the 6 slot AM with way less farm was pretty great.

But as Lumi and LD pointed out, it all depended on who could Bash and lockdown the other first.

Also SD's Disruptions on all the Abyssal Blade'd heroes was perfect. SD best lategame support.

lol

Need those competitive huskar buffs so he can be first round pick TI3.

Not sure what they could do for huskar to make him a good pick. He doesn't offer any utility and he's not a late game carry. He doesn't do any aoe damage as well.

Bloodseeker/Medusa changes would be welcome too.

But bash/root is one of the things that makes bear so good late game. Lumi's still backtracking given earlier he was talking about LD being a weak late game carry and losing clean to AM when the reality is it would come down to bash which LD is more likely to proc.

Anyway given how bad LGD's wisp is and how it's still being an issue for TF I'm beginning to wonder if a Wisp pick might be the best chance for the western wildcard team to get through to TI3.

Maybe make lances a buff placer so you can lifesteal while using them?

That would make him at least situational.

assume i have always hated rts games because i suck at them

also assume that i have no idea how to play this or any other game of its type

it might behoove you to assume i just tried the little tutorial and a botmatch and feel no closer to understanding anything about this game

my question is how the hell do you even begin to understand what is even required to be competent on the most basic rudimentary level

also i hope you can turn off the character barks because that shit is annoying, haven't checked the settings though

Dota 2 is one of these games you can learn so much about by just watching a lot of good people play. That's at least how I picked up on a lot of things so early.

Also make sure you're using an item guide build every time you play a hero so you won't buy useless items.

Have you read purges guide?

That thing helped me get started.

Try watching some of the pro matches. Even if you don't know what all the heroes do you'll get a general idea of roles and what people do.

So with 600 games played I never touched doom. Decided to pick him in sd and fucking wrecked house. YOU ARE DOOOOOOOOOMED.

I everyone I've gotten into Dota 2 I've showed that "Dota 2 in 4 minutes" video. It goes over the basics and shows you what it is all about. The best way to learn though is having someone with a little experience play with you and explain a game as you go along. If that's not an option, I found the Purge videos pretty good, because he alway explains his decisions and what he's trying to do.

I also don't like any RTS games, the only thing I associate with rts in dota is the camery perspective and maybe some of the micro intensive heroes, but I don't play those anyway.

Anyone else hearing echoes in the client? Particularly easy to hear when the heroes say something.

Also, 50k in client. nice

Edit: Sounds like the volume was lowered on there end. Everything is okay!

So uh, my auto-spectate script didn't work. Well it worked sort of. As soon as the game was up, it put me auto in there. But then it just sat at the screen where they pick bans.

I just thought that maybe we were put in super early. I then noticed the 3,000 people viewing started to dwindle. And after 20 min, I went to the main menu, and saw the game was actually underway.

So herpderp. Dunno why it did that.

EDIT: Okay, game just barely started. Hopefully I get a view on my courier for this. =/

You will get the view. They were having server issues so someone made a game that was tagged as an official one even though no one was in it so everyone got dumped into that.

Ah okay, lol.

This was my first time doing the auto-script so I was confused. Thanks again man, you are always so helpful.

Another n00b to the World of DOTA2 has entered. I've racked up a grand total of 8hrs of DOTA2 over the last 1.5 days, been watching tournaments. Reading guides exhaustively, reading up on items and the different heroes and how to use them, and the lingo and I can say with certainty.

I'm no closer to understanding this game than I was 8 gaming hours earlier. D: But I'm having fun (how does it w0rk!?)

So I was thinking that it might be useful to add to the OP some permutation of the following advice for new players: maintaining 60fps makes a HUGE difference, so if you suck at last hitting, it may be because your settings are too high.

Tries this game for a few hours for the first time yesterday. Boy it is an overwhelming experience. I've never played a MOBA before so I just did the tutorial and a couple bot matches.

At first I didn't find it that fun and then I got addicted but had to cut my play time short. It's insane how many heroes there are to pick from. I've read a couple starter guides which should hopefully help but any tips from GAF?

60fps is not even thought process for me. I suck on timing and overestimating how much damage a normal attack does for some heroes. Some heroes I have an easy time with LH and can rack them up, other heroes I'm just like errrmahgawd D: RIght now I've been doing bot matches nonstop trying out all the heroes.

The OP has some good guidelines.

Had a really awful match. Made me rage hard. Our only carry was Ursa and he was terrible. Atfter 20 minutes he was ony level 9. He would keep trying to start 1 vs 5 team fight. He complained about his lane partner all the time too. Our Riki was trying to help him by carrying smoke and helping him get away but he would only whine. He ended the game at 0-15.

I was kotl and was like always 4-5 levels ahead of him. He complained once about how I wasn't joining his epic 1 vs 5 team fights to cast Mana Leak on the guy he was attacking. He would always leave the base when the other team was just outside the base according to our wards. UGH

The match I played last night was much more fun. People were using sentry and smoke efficiently.

I've only played for around 20 hours.

I just tried the "watch" feature for the first time and all the tournaments said I needed a pass? How can I find matches that I can watch for free? Only on youtube or twitch archives? I'd like to learn a bit more, and apply that in bot matches...

For most tournaments you need a ticket to watch ingame, but they're free to watch on twitch, I usually use www.joindota.com or www.gosugamers.net to see what matches are coming up.
But right now the qualifiers for The International 3 are on right now, and they're free to watch ingame, so get in and spectate!

Have Valve said anything about providing an in-game bracket view? I love the way gdstudio has the qualifiers set up. They need to just put that in game.

autospectate?

For some unknown reasons, the autospectate did not start the match correctly for me, the client was stuck in an empty match with about 900 spectators. I had to close the window for the client to reconnect to the right match.

They had to remake. So everybody joined that one automatically

If you want i can teach you, still the fastest way to learn. Else there are hour long youtube vids there, that teach you most stuff.

Also don't disable the voices. Some of the responses never get old.

His bash is stupidly low chance, it doesn't matter much if he has it a low levels.

His bash is fine (except the ranged bash bug). But his ulti and whirling axes are probably two of the most broken skills I've seen in dota in a long ass time. One of the two needs a nerf, I'd rather see the ulti cost 100-150 mana or scale more like 60/40/20.
