Riddle me this: This is pure theory crafting, but why does Timbersaw not go mid? The main argument against it is that the trees are all the way by the towers, but I would think if you get this guy fast levels and a bottle, he can gank effectively. He can surprise people with a Chakram through the trees providing they don't know he's there.

quick q: how common are item drops? Just had my 4th (3rd real, 1 was abandoned by everyone like 5 mins in) game that lasted 65 minutes somehow and I still haven't gotten anything (seems like people mostly get chests though, just like TF2 i guess)

How much is the ticket? I'm at work and can't find a price.

9.50 euros, pretty pricey.. but that set is amazing and the hud is really nice too.

You can get them randomly after games, and you get one every time you level up your battlepoints bar.

What is the best $9 item I could buy and sell immediately on the Market? I want to get Dota 2 trading cards.

Thanks and yeah I really want it mainly for that awesome HUD.

GO DD

IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY

He can totally go mid. It's just that people see timber chain and armor and say, hey, this dude should totally offlane. Kind of like a Dark Seer effect with Ion Shell and Surge. It is matchup-dependent, though.

I haven't played for a month and now I can't find my way in the menu anymore.
Did they move the 'weekly top players' thing?
There used to be a screen which showed the top players for the week and the best farmer etc, those were interesting replays to watch.
Can't find it at all.

Been watching the daily Giant Bomb streams - would really love to give this a shot. anyone have a spare beta key? (sorry if there is a a separate thread for key begging - I'll delete this if so.)

They moved it to community/guilds, but it's not working atm. Seems it will be a guild thing.

Seeing treant being constantly picked up by DD brings joy to my heart. He's huge early game and transitions pretty well for a support.

and DD will move on.

rarely do I see a game thrown at the draft. I just don't see how Rox does this. If Sven had been the last pick, I could really see them winning. Sven cleave + bkb + crit + spaming stormhammers thanks to kotl? Def can fuck up a PL and LD. but with Alchie? Nah man.

Can anyone tell me whats with the "[random name] has seen [event x] and received a prize" messages, please?

it means they get a special item in their backpack, like after the end of a regular matchmaking match. except this item will have a in-game tournament play and a replay for you can watch the moment again with.

They drop for specific plays in a match. First bloods, multi-kills, aegis snatches, and wins. Think of it like catching a fly-ball at a baseball game. A souvenir from the match that you have an extremely low chance of getting and will have the only one of in the world.

Cool, thank you :).

assume i have always hated rts games because i suck at them

also assume that i have no idea how to play this or any other game of its type

it might behoove you to assume i just tried the little tutorial and a botmatch and feel no closer to understanding anything about this game

my question is how the hell do you even begin to understand what is even required to be competent on the most basic rudimentary level

also i hope you can turn off the character barks because that shit is annoying, haven't checked the settings though

Right-click the game in your library and click "view community guides"

Look for two general guides: "Welcome to Dota 2, You Suck" by Purge and/or "Comprehensive Dota 2 Guide" by devilesk. Subscribe. They both have pictures and videos to go along with the text. By the time you're about halfway through the guides you'll be ready to start playing a real game for the first time; once you have the basics down you can go back for more. Pay attention to which heroes they recommend for beginners, as you're gonna want to stick to the easy-to-play guys for at least your first few matches.

Once you're actually in-game, I find the best thing to do as soon as you spawn is to click the little book icon in the top left corner, then click the right-facing arrow. This will pull up community "hero builds" for that character. Pick one of the highest rated ones, and it will almost always actually tell you some of the best things to buy (and in what order), and which skills to put points into as you level up, by highlighting them in the UI. It's the smartest thing ever. (Every once in a while this doesn't work well, since it's pulling this stuff from the Steam workshop and there are occasionally connection problems, but 90-95% of the time you'll be straight.)

Number one tip: don't die. Seriously. Get comfortable with running the hell away from a bad situation. This is not like other games where being overly aggressive won't get you into trouble. You'll eventually start to recognize when it's a decent idea to take a chance.
