Well they just lost to Power Rangers in a LAN game...

But I know what you are getting at, Na'vi can really step their game up in LAN-Tournaments, we will see....

They are playing for gear at a shopping mall showmatch.
Not quite the same as TI2 grand finals.

Anyone still in the running?

I had a PL last night who went Helm of Iron Will (this was his only item when I checked early on) > Boots + ring of regen (thought it might be for Tranquils, he couldn't possibly be going double lifesteal, right?) > Helm of the Dominator + Vlads > Crystalys > Hyperstone > Demon Edge > Mjolnir > Daedalus

I have no idea what the fuck he was thinking. He didn't fight with the team for the whole game, although the PL swarm did manage to take their top rax when we lost our mid. But even at the end when he was farming mid and I tried to push for rax he ran back to finish his daedalus, as if we don't have a courier or something.

Weekend Dota is rearing its ugly head, got the treat of playing with an Anti-Mage who had (muted) in their name, spammed map pings like they were going out of style, died 4 times in a row early. This AM proceeded to earn one kill for every two deaths and after a while he simply started walking up middle lane, intentionally feeding. When that wasn't enough, he started to take our courier along with. What was annoying was we were still in the game, despite the shitty Anti-Mage until he started intentionally feeding. I don't get why people play the game when they're that angry. Next game played with a 4-20 Viper who died eight times in the first ten minutes. Helped the other team snowball early and then there was no coming back in a match that went fifty minutes long. Two games, back-to-back, thrown under the bus by one player. At least the Viper wasn't perpetually raging and apologised for his play.

Then ended up with two decent teams and two fun games, go figure.

Played Luna in a Single Draft, chose her for tower pushing and I'm kind of curious as to why she isn't used more to counter Phantom Lancer. Once she gets farm she gets pretty ridiculous, throw a Manta on her and watch all of those glaives bounce around.

Having played a few real matches now I'm going to conclude that this game is incredible, but the lower skill brackets are shitty for learning basic strategy.

People seem to just want to hunt for kills the entire round, instead of playing to win. They tend to pick heroes that reflect this too.

Does carry Vengeful Spirit ever work? It seems to be the way most players in PUBs play her... and I've never seen it work in my 900+ games of DOTA 2. You'd figure people would learn.

Well 109 once managed to carry with CM so I guess anything is possible.

It's really hard to predict TI3 play from now till August for 3 reasons:

1) LAN. Some teams play the same. Some teams are 10x better. Some teams are 10x worse, the LAN environment definitely has a noticeable effect.

2) 6.78. No one knows what this patch is going to change, but we know it's going to be huge. New content for sure (which means new items or map changes), and 6 months worth of balance changes. Plus 6.78b. The meta will change and teams will have to adapt. Drafts, strats, and style could potentially all change.

3) Boot camps. Navi played like shit before TI3 and ended up in second place. I'm sure they are going to boot camp hard this year as will most of the teams, and the motivation to practice months in advance is huge compared to the minor tournaments here and there where some teams like NAVI just don't give a fuck, and others will take seriously. I'm pretty sure everyone is going to take TI3 seriously.

This reminds me. What changes to the game are everyone expecting/hoping to see in general? Here's some of mine.

Phantom Lancer: Something will change, not sure what, and he doesn't really need a nerf right now, but I think something will change for him.

Skywrath Mage: Strength gain buff.

Witch Doctor: Some kind of buff to his heal and Maledict. Both of those skills really aren't that great. Maledict will maybe get you a First Blood at level 2 and then it pretty much falls off after that. The heal costs too much mana, is slow, and is in a very small AoE. Perhaps the buff is increasing the AoE of the heal.

Lone Druid: Some mechanical change about the whole Armlet bear thing. It still seems strange to me that the reasoning he doesn't have the drain is "He doesn't get the strength, therefore he doesn't lose health because mayonaise." It's not really overpowered, just total nonsense. Perhaps there will be an item rework since Armlet was proven to be more cost effective on him than a Maelstrom.

Troll Warlord: Either will get nerfed and enabled for CM, or untouched since he's not in CM right now anyway. The nerf could come in a lot of places. He has a bash and 60% evasion built in at low levels. This seems kind of bullshit to me. Maybe the nerf will come in making his mana pool even worse than it already is. It would really shake things up.

Magnus: Probably will get a slight nerf (although I think he doesn't need it). Perhaps it may be a slight reduction of RP radius, sort of like how a few patches ago Tidehunter was changed where the tentacles move outward slower.

Ancient Apparition: Kind of weak right now. Chilling Touch is still not that great of a skill. His other ones are okay at best. I think he may get some reworks, but I'm not sure where.

Mirana: This is a big one in my opinion. Right now she has a difficult place on a team. Support, she's not that great because she's pretty much a one trick pony: the arrow. If you miss the arrow your game is through, they know you're there, and you're not touching them. At the same time. Leap on level 1 is on a really long cooldown. Perhaps Leap could get a flat cooldown? This would help things a lot.

As a carry, her damage early game is utter shit, and has a difficult animation too. You pretty much have to load up on Slippers if you're planning on getting any farm. I actually like the hero, she's just relatively weak compared to everyone else right now. The recent buffs to Moonlight Shadow were appreciated, but I still don't feel like it was enough to make her relevant.

Doom: Poor guy can't catch a break. A recent patch made jungle Doom actually viable, but he has a major mana problem, so half of the jungling game is keeping your mana up. He doesn't summon units like Prophet or Enigma either, so you can't just use a spell and pop a Clarity. That 0.54 armor isn't helping his case either.

Other heroes that are currently considered garbage (competitively) and could get surprise buffs to make them relevant: Bloodseeker, Razor, Viper, Broodmother, Spirit Breaker, Lycan, Tusk, Timbersaw, and Sniper.

It still shocks me that Gyrocopter is a huge part of today's meta. I thought I remembered reading here on GAF before he came to Dota 2 that he was considered a "pub hero" along with stuff like Spirit Breaker or Bloodseeker. Treant Protector was even relevant this week! (I still think he's garbage other than Living Armor)

Unless they're buffing almost every hero or they nerf him somewhere else no way.

Lone Druid: Some mechanical change about the whole Armlet bear thing. Armlet bear is a bug in dota 2, it won't be nerfed in a map update.

His bash is stupidly low chance, it doesn't matter much if he has it a low levels.

Also Lycan is fine, you just need to put some thought behind the pick.

Phantom Lacer - Copies disappear if Phantom Lancer is out of range.
Might as well delete the hero from the game.

Does anyone know what it takes to up the Smeevil match count?

I've watched more than a couple International replays and my count is still 0 :(

May contain jokes =>
Yeah I mean I understand Dust and Wards but it isn't nearly as effective as people imply in my experience. He just seems to get fed up and is fucking impossible to deal with at a certain point.

As soon as he hits 6, place a ward in your lane. He will run between you guys thinking he's undetected. Kill him and prevent him from snowballing. An early gem is a good idea when there 2 or more invis heroes on the other team. Or a Nyx Assassin who keeps murdering people.

Chat going in on Lumi for saying LD is too squishy to be good late game when the bear utterly wrecked the 6 slot AM with way less farm was pretty great.
