Dota 2 Beta Thread V: Real Talk Strikes Back [Tutorials]

How much of it is Tencent and how much of it is Valve taking too long to finished the beta, implement a tutorial and get a working, low spec dota client out into China? The fact that two Internationals went by before solving this a problem no amount of tongue in cheek "Valve time" can diffuse. LoL wasnt gonna sit around waiting and they knew Riot had an advantage in the Chinese market cause they are owned by a Chinese company. A big company that would certainly do anything to make sure League isnt threatened at all by Dota 2.

Valve dragging their ass is hurting Dota's long term prospects, but at the same time the games could coexist if Riot and Tencent weren't so hellbent on eliminating competition.

you guys havent even established what a LOLer running ACE is

i find it amusing that nobody has even entertained ACE's argument that it is to create a seperation between pro tournaments and amateur tournaments

then it just sounds like there arent enough dota2 tournaments - though 3 sounds like a lot tbh.

and what is up with the bullshit that they cant play? they can scrim any chinese team they want. there is no excuse to say that they havent played in 3 months other than using this as some convenient excuse for sucking

The prolly have draconian contracts too. I hope Chuan gets himself kicked off iG and can join the Western scene. idk about any of the Chinese nationals though. That would suck to be stuck in a gaming house all year with only 3 tournaments a year.

Yeah I wouldn't call it stagnating.

If you really wanted to make an argument for that you could use twitch rankings (Jan, Feb, March, April) but April was just a slow month for dota, and large for sc2. Also small sample and hiccups/irregularities/outliers blah blah blah.

All I care about is the immortal item :( not looking good though...

It'll go up again when TI3 rolls closer, and as they get some of the rewards out.

Compendium sales have pretty much died off.

I wouldn't be surprised if Valve adds a portion of TI3 keys to the prize pool.

That would probably end up making the pool so big even Tencent would be wary about trying to match it.

Hey where the fuck did my hat go????

Must've lost it at some point.

It has recently started spiking back up a bit the last couple weeks because of the international qualifiers and stuff I imagine it should break 400k for the international...

Considering that recent bump has been people watching the International qualifiers in the client.

Edit: Peak was around November 2012 time and it's plateaued/declined in that period. Recent bump due to those watching in client rather than playing it seems.

But of course, it was exam season since November etc.

Dota's "growth" has stagnated and receded over the last few months.

TIME TO BACKTRACK, LOL ok buddy

Er... do you know what stagnation means?

do you?

Yeah, there's slight decline since November 2012.

When people have used the client, it's to restore it to it's November 2012 numbers.

Those numbers are "inflated" not because people are playing, but because a significant amount have used it to to watch matches (upwards of 50,000 in matches watching).

So, do you know what stagnation means?

Edit: no equivocation, even with people watching, it's still back to November 2012 numbers.

Only Gideon Osborne would call that growth.

Further edit: November is something I've pulled out my bum here, even since March, we've seen decline to stagnation.

November had 170k peak users.

The numbers are about double what they were in November...

BRO 120K PEOPLE WE'RE SIMPLY WATCHIN DOTA MATCHES THRU THE CLIENT ON MARCH 20, 2013 THAT DOESN'T COUNT; DOTA IS STAGNATING AND DECLINING

To be fair, Dota did stagnate from March until the past two weeks, but it's on the uptick again.

When was Valve's Hawaii vacation? Because that coincided with a lot of their servers going on the fritz, and it was the first time I noticed the Steam Stat numbers weren't rising so much anymore.

Dat TI3 prize pool is not plateauing like I thought it wood.
Like I've said several times, it won't even come close to the final goal. No way in hell. Doesn't have the player base for it, nor number of incentives to make those who are the most unlikely to buy something from the store do so...and those least likely are the players they have to reach in order to hit that goal.

Completely concede I got confused in me being so right that I put the peak point at November.

It's March.

I'll make another correction. Growth has been astronomical after a stagnation and decline.

We've now slightly, just about matched March numbers.

LoL we're coming for you.
