I wish I could complain more about them not giving Valkyrie Profile another shot at becoming a more viable franchise, long term. But we did get Valkyrie Profile 2, and the PSP port and Covenant of Plume on the DS. So they gave it a shot. I imagine they don't hate money, so obviously the sales just weren't there to justify any more games.

lol @ caring about the story.

Star Ocean has an amazing battle system. That's all I want. Different situations for me to explore an awesome battle system.

story does matter a little. Imma guy who can accept the nes era "girlfriend was kidnapped by ninjas" story if developers used it in a modern game but I do need it for context as to why I am beating up street prostitutes with chainsaws.

but calling the story from "the last hope" insulting is putting it very lightly.

This really bums me out. I was really hoping for saome Valkyrie Profile news. A Valkyrie Profile with Hrist is never going to see the light of day :( :( :(

Out of Saga, Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean, and Drakengard, I would have chosen for them to work on Drakengard in a heartbeat. Made the right call.

As far as Tri-Ace, a new IP would be cool. I enjoyed the latest Star Ocean, but they would have to really consider a new art style if they were going to do another one.

Yeah, we need more games of that overrated IP.

"So kewl and deep with rape and shocking stuff! Who cares gameplay sucks?"

I like the Drakengard series, but I would prefer them to work on Valkyrie Profile above all else; a series that even at its weakest (Covenant of the Plume) was still a good game over working on a series that is often talked about for anything but its gameplay.

I like the gameplay. On PS2, being able to get on a dragon whenever was pretty huge for a hack and slash game.

NieR's gameplay was also great. Fantastic bosses, and they mixed things up quite a bit with 2D, shmup and lots of creative magic.

At least until archers blow your dragon out of the sky in seconds (and start being placed everywhere), or there are red fire resistant enemies everywhere (too bad your dragon specializes mostly in fire), or there are indoor missions where you can't call your dragon (making up another bulk of the game).

But at least you got to control a dragon in Star Fox 64 All Range Mode-esque missions where the dragon controlled like ass. And by the time they did manage to improve the dragon controls, it was in the sequel which somehow managed to be even worse.

I tried playing Nier. I thought it was extremely mediocre and couldn't make tolerate an hour of the game. Never wanted to play Drakengard. It looked like ass.

... HUM

i'm not sure in understand S-E logic ....

But i do understand that they don't want to continue "series" where all the previous staff that worked on them is gone ( or so it seems )

I guess as a suikoden fan i'm accustomed to wait .. here for S-E games i'll wait too

I didn't think they were working on any of those things. Thanks for letting us know about all the great things you're not working on though, SE.

Well, no one's forcing you guys to play it :/

:(

I really wanted at least a new Valkyrie Profile.

Oh well, its fine as long as you keep delivering with the final fantasy games. :)

“We didn't think that was good,” said Shiba

I was drinking when I read that. Thankfully it was water. Otherwise my screen and keyboard would be ruined.

Does anyone else find it a bit eerie how naturally and without hesitation he seemed to say that?

Who actually wants another Star Ocean title though? They can't make any titles that take place after SO3, the last hope was ..... not very good.

and with the twist from SO3 it's not like anything you'd do in the game would actually matter.

Yes it does. Even though SO characters are game characters there's still a struggle with them and their world (and the real world).

Or basically what Cliff said in SO3, "I think, therefore I am."

Star Ocean can happily rest in peace until the stars go cold after what they did with the last instalment. I can accept that every JRPG seems to need a couple of tedious anime fanbait incompetent characters with zero charisma, but an entire cast? Same goes for FF until it leaves the world of la'cie and fal'cie and whatever other typographic horrors inhabit the XIII universe along with little miss grumpy.

It's a shame when JRPGs like Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, FFIX, FFXII and Xenoblade all managed to make me give a crap about most of the cast, but the HD instalments of some of the most popular franchises just leave me cold. What happened?

Square-Enix: "Hey guys, remember all those awesome 16bit and 32bit franchises we used to make?.... We're not making those anymore. Please be excited for... ahh who are we kidding? We got nothing... have some more Lightning themed games. "

I was talking to a friend of mine a couple days ago, and he was telling me that Square-Enix hired him as a freelance artist to create backgrounds for one of their mobile games. He didn't say which game it was though, but I am assuming something Final Fantasy related.

SO just needs to be rebooted and go back to its roots.
High tech hero crashes on low tech planet with big problems.
Problem being that's still squandering an opportunity for a unique type of JRPG that isn't normally seen, so it's better to go back to the PROMISE of what Star Ocean had (Star Trek the JRPG.)

Seriously, like, real talk. The 'No Hope Left' marketing campaign should've been for a Square game and not RE6.

Well like they said, they're making Drakengard 3. I anticipate that people might care about the characters.

I'm really surprised they are actually doing more Drakengard, isnt the first two among the wierdest stuff out there? Think I saw some youtube-vids from the first one and HOLY SHIT was that wierd.

Why is tri-ace everyone's bitch this gen? I really wanted that Star Ocean tech demo to be a new direction would take. It looked a bit more western but less disgustingly doll-like. A more serious but still sci-fi heavy RPG from them would have been amazing.

......descartes kinda said that first a few hundred years ago!

but i'll accept your reasoning even though I don't agree with it.
