Pawn Vocation Ranger (Rank 8)
Addition details Put GAF or pawn in the request please.

I might make her a fighter for a bit, seems the server is down right now, so I will use that to boost some other stats. I have no idea how I missed out on this game the first time around, I am having a blast playing this.

I can't believe I'm sucked in all over again, the main game started to become a bit tedious due the amount of time spent walking from one place to the other. Its not for every one.

but I took a break from the story and I decided to go to the bitterback Island at level 10.

*wipes sweat off forehead*

That was intense as fuck, I back in the game full force!

I should give this game a try sometime soon. Always heard about the game being good but backed off ps3 version since I heard the franerate was bad. What's the gameplay like? Any other action rpg that it's similar too?

One of my favorite games of last gen and it hurts that I cant afford it for retail atm:(

Shameful PS:If anyone wants to sell their copy after finishing it for a decent price please lmk regardless of when.

Action gameplay with a lot of neat move sets per class, reminiscent to dmc, mechanics wise (or classic Capcom gameplay).

At first sight it could seem meek in its approach to quest. But once it gets going.. it gets going!

Traveling at night means just that. Shit is pitch black and gets rough..

Huge monsters! Lizard men, griffins, bandits.. all there. Good quests. Decent story (after a while).. but for me it was the attachment of my pawns. I just made me and my best friends in the game and it felt like co-op on another level..

Of course real co-op would be better but I came to love the pawn system.

The combat is closer to a Devil May Cry game than other action RPGs to be honest. There isn't really anything else quite like it.

Been taking various GAF pawns on trips, showing them some unfamiliar places and foes. Looking forward to showing some of the new ones around.

Hitboxes and camera on
Ur-
Dragon are still hilarious at times.

Pawn Update:

Pawn name: Syzygy
Pawn level: 200
Pawn vocation: Mage
Additional details: Most likely 'support' Mage, or whatever I need (on my other account/s). Skills may vary, gear is work in progress. Loves Large Mushrooms.

Please mention "GAF" or similar in your request, blank friend requests may be ignored. (EU timezone)

Also, Platinum get.

How???

I think it's just you. Nothing here looks worse to me than the PS3 version did. Maybe the higher resolution is throwing you off. Things are sharper and draw distance is further, so you can kind of see the seams.

i'm sure this's what's going on. but why didn't, for example, remastered final fantasy xii look as equally off? must be me :) ...

Is nothing like DMC.

It's more like Dark Souls with greater movement abilities with a Dragon Age style ability use and party.
I'm not a fan of the Souls comparison at all, and it definitely feels more like DMC combat to me (many of the skills are very similar). Maybe that's confirmation bias because I know it's by the DMC devs, but I've felt like that since the last gen version.

In terms of another comparison though, it reminds me of the EA Lord of the Rings games from two gens back (The Two Towers and Return of the King), for people who remember those.

Anyone expecting a Souls game will be disappointed in my experience.

I have a video issue that's been annoying me with dark games. It hasn't been much of a problem until now (or maybe I haven't noticed it).

It's how the colours are distorted around the blacks in the sky and light from the lantern. What is this issue? TV, game, or PS4?

It has always been an issue with how the game is rendered.

Thankfully it can be fixed on PC:

Just encountered a bug that gives you infinite stamina until you load in to another area. No idea how to reproduce it.

I think it may have something to do with using the bow? I was an assassin and shooting the bow and found myself with infinite stamina. After using some bow skills.

Ok, so i'm a strider with a fighter pawn. Just hired a mage pawn as well. What should the third one be you reckon?

Wait so how do Pawns and GAF work again? Game is arriving tomorrow for me and I want to be part of this!

In general if someone is on your friends list you can hire their pawn for free regardless of its level. I dunno if there's some Gaf specific trading system I'm unaware of.

A sorcerer or ranger will do, with preference towards the sorcerer for taking advantage of enemy elemental weaknesses (unless the mage pawn has a good element spread - which, if they're specced for healing, they likely won't).

Also, good on you for making them a fighter! For some reason fighter pawns are remarkably rare next to mages, sorcerers, and rangers. Can't imagine why.

This is fucking glorious.

So, back in the 360 days I was a bit lttp, but eventually discovered the beauty of DD, and got properly stuck in.

I put maybe 40-50 hours in before the worst happened. There was a bug surrounding an update on the 360 where when you booted the game up following the update, it started the game anew, asking you to create a save, this overwrites your current (and afaik only autosave slot).

To my horror, my Assassin was gone.

After so uch time I just couldn't bring myself to go back through the game. I tried different ways of save recovery, considered using a save editor to "recreate" where I was in the game. But alas, I let it lie.

And here we are, after a few years hiatus, this incredible game is back on current gen and I'm absolutely loving it. It's just so freaking good.

Wanted to share my story, and my new found joy.

I actually drank one of the limited infinite stamina potions, went and completed a quest, and leveled up. After the level happened, the icon for the buff disappeared and I was left with infinite stamina. I don't know if it was the quest or the level, and it hasn't happened again. 🤷

Playing this on PS4 also makes me miss the weight fix mod from the PC. As a 2h warrior, my armor is always so heavy that I'm constantly at average or above.

Fighter rank 5 allows you to unlock an augment called Sinew. It drastically increases carry weight, so you could probably get down to light weight at least.

I forgot how much I hate Soulflayer Canyon. Finding the correct spot for The Conspirators quest took a long while and I've done multiple times before.

Yeah, I have it. Problem is, even with it, the speed change from average to heavy is absolutely ridiculous.

I have a feeling the assassin's rolling core skill was supposed to use stamina.

the fact that it does not makes rolling everywhere a no brainer.

Rolling was very clunky in the original, it was kinda useless. They redid the animations for Dark Arisen, making it somewhat OP.

Lvl 9 Strider has an augment that makes speed 1 level below of what you actually have (so in Heavy you have Average speed).

Think i'm gonna respec once i get to the city. Been playing strider with aim of going assassin. But man do i miss using the awesome spells in the game...

I turned off the minimap and I still remember all the locations and stuff in the game. New trophy set so I'm about to get the platinum again. This is the best game of all time.

So I just attempted to
clear a fort of goblins as part of my Wyrm Hunt quest and all the men were killed and I had to "report my failure" but I completed the quest anyway?

Is that going to bite me in the ass later on? I think it's too late now due to the save anyway.

Not really, you will be able to advance the story/quest line, all you lose for now is access to one place/building that isn't that interesting or important at all. Also, you can try again in your 2nd playthrough.

Cool thanks. I was worried it might be one of those "build your forces to make the ending easier" thing.

Failed “lost and found” because I couldn’t get past the bandits so I moved on and did the everfall. Did I miss anything?

Also should I max out a spec before changing?

Quina's chain of quests, and, I'm not sure about this, also possibly another npc's line of quests, considering lost and found is the mission where that npc is introduced. You may also be unable to unlock the 2nd part of Witchwood? Not sure, since normally the entry to it is tied to a questline of that 2nd npc.

2nd question, depends on your target augment or Stat level up considerations.

Oh, btw, thanks for everyone in here that's adding me as a PSN friend! Looking forward to using your folks' pawns!

When you complete some areas they become "safe", like you're in a town, so you get infinite stamina. Like shadow fort or ancient quarry. Maybe it was that?

You can just outrun them Dark Souls style. Enemies stop chasing you after some distance.

Yeah the problem is my slow ass pawns were getting destroyed by the archers so by the time i got passed them at least one of my dead pawns was sitting in the middle of the herd

Bummer I missed the quest but I don’t know if it’s worth restarting (level 18 now) with at least 12 hrs of exploring.

Not going to lie, even gaming on easy I am getting my ass kicked all over, hard to know where to go and who to run from...interesting system but I’m having a hard time grasping everything!

Same here. I'm always feeling like I'm missing something or goin wrong way.

But the gameplay has me hooked and I'm loving it. So makes getting lost or just exploring really fun.

Big question: How and when am I able to do some sort of fast travel if any? I feel like I re walk lots of the same paths

Fast travel is done with Portcrystals and Ferrystones.

There are 2 fixed Portcrystals, one in the city and one just outside the starting village. There is another in the DLC area.
In the base game, before Dark Arisen there were only one-time use Ferrystones, with Dark Arisen they gave everyone an Eternal Ferrystone with unlimited use, you can find it in your storage once you reach the city. At various locations throughout the story/world you can find Portcrystals that you can pick up and place (almost) anywhere you want. Then you use the (Eternal) Ferrystone to travel/warp to the Portcrystal of your choice. You can find up to 5 free Portcrystals in the world, more can be bought in NG+ (and you can also find the same 5 ones again). You can place 10 Portcrystals (not counting the fixed ones)

Once you zone to the woods they'll pop on the floor and you can recover them. Of course this only happens with areas with zoning (witchwood is one of the few that have them).

About the difficulty, the game starts hard, but trust me, it ends up being easy, that's because almost everything in the world has the same level so you end up outleveling monsters pretty fast. Also there's a lot of OP skills later on.

Thanks for that explanation. I just found my first port crystal but had no idea how to use it or where to find a ferry stone. This will really help (drop a port crystal, warp back to city to rest/reload pots then warp back to where I was exploring)
