Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen PS4/XB1 |OT| They're master ports all, you can't go wrong

The dragon is known to be iffy. Approach from the south road, not north, that seems to start the 'mission' you get with some beasts and makes it less likely to fly away. It still will though when mid battle, often.

The first time I came from the south, got him down to half a bar left, and he flew off. I kept running from Gran Soren, but each time the fight started, he flew straight up in the air, so high that I couldn't get a shot on him, then he did the ocean dip. I tried the North twice, and from the West, and it just kept happening. Maybe I will have better luck in NG+, I think he is the last one I need for the three kinds of dragon trophy.

There are other places to find that type, Everfall for one, you'll need Google where though. Wiki knows.

On an unrelated note, I've lost like 6 pawns to Death and Daimon tonight. I don't wanna use the 'come' command so they run away from death attacks cos it builds guardian inclination.

Oh wow

Somebody used my pawn and I got a nice 250k RC and also gifted me BBI weapon lvl 3. Purified it and got the Framae daggers - best daggers in the game for my strider/assassin arisen!

Tonight was a good night :)

These are my thoughts on inclinations. This is all to the best of my knowledge, if there are any mistakes let me know.

CHOOSING YOUR PAWN INCLINATIONS
Utilitarian: pawn will make use of special abilities/tactics. Fighters will grapple, casters will cast enchantments, sorcerers will spell-sync if possible, etc. Works particularly well when pawns have good bestiary knowledge. Great for melee and support caster builds.
Scather: pawn will actively attack any enemies it sees, and focus on the strongest ones while getting close. They will actively climb large enemies as well. Great for melee builds, not so good for casters or ranged builds.
Challenger: pawn will prioritise ranged enemy attackers and casters. Great for casters and ranged builds.
Mitigator: pawn will prioritise the weakest enemies. Works pretty well with all non-tank builds.
Guardian: pawn will only attack enemies that are directly attacking you, and will stand next to you (often drawing aggro). Enemies could be wailing on your other pawns, and a Guardian will calmly stand and watch. They will draw enemies to you if you're a caster. Don't pick this. Please.
Nexus: pawn will only attack enemies that are directly attacking your other pawns. Enemies could be wailing on you and a Nexus will calmly stand and watch. Don't pick this. Please.
Mendicant: pawn will prioritise healing over all else. If anyone in the party takes any damage at all, Mendicant casters will generally stop attacking enemies. In practice this is quite bad, since someone is always taking damage: effectively it makes your pawn a pacifist. It's unnecessary since support caster pawns will always heal your party (once they take non-trivial damage) anyway, regardless of inclination, so I'd advise against this one.
Acquisitor: pawn will pick up anything they see, even potentially in combat. Actually not terrible though as a secondary inclination in a big pack mule (who can act as a hoover), but I'd still advise against this one.
Pioneer: pawn will scout ahead of the party. In conjunction with Acquisitor it can make your pack mule quickly collect more materials/loot, so can be useful for farming. Too niche for my liking though (might be useful to you as a player, but probably unlikely to get your pawn hired much)

Some suggested builds:
* Melee builds (fighter, warrior, strider melee): Scather/Utilitarian
* Ranged builds (ranger, strider bows): Challenger/Mitigator
* Support caster (mage or sorcerer): Utilitarian/Challenger or Utilitarian/Mitigator
* Strictly offensive caster (sorcerer): Challenger/Mitigator (use the support caster build for spell-syncing though)
* Farming build (maybe): Acquisitor/Pioneer

SETTING YOUR PAWN INCLINATIONS
Once you have access to the merchant at the encampment who stands directly next to the riftstone (Johnathan), buy one elixir named for the secondary inclination you want to have, and two for the primary inclination. Drink the one for the secondary inclination first, then drink both of the primary inclination ones afterward. If you check your main pawn's profile you should then see the inclinations are the way you wanted them. If not, you can use the Knowledge Chair (see below) to tweak the secondary inclination (because the primary will definitely be correct). Then, assuming you have some spare rift crystals, you should buy a bunch more of those two elixirs (and buy twice as many of the primary type); keep a few on your pawn, and put the rest in storage.

KEEPING YOUR PAWN INCLINATIONS
Since your pawn changes get saved (and propagated to other players) whenever you rest at an inn, it's a good idea to check your pawn's inclinations before you rest.
* If your pawn's primary and secondary inclinations have swapped around, then you'll need to drink an elixir for your primary inclination. That should be enough.
* If your primary inclination is still correct, but your secondary has changed, then the easiest way to fix this is to use the Knowledge Chair (you'll find one in every inn or place you can rest). It'll ask you which inclination you prefer, and the options it offers are your secondary and tertiary inclinations. It's actually asking you to pick your preferred secondary inclination. Also ignore the wording of the question, just pick the name of the secondary inclination you want. This will boost your preferred primary inclination (I believe) in addition to swapping your secondary and tertiary inclinations so they're back to the way you want.
* If both your preferred primary and secondary inclinations have disappeared, you'll need to go through the steps you used to set your inclinations the first time (i.e. use elixirs again).

Using the Knowledge chair solidifies your inclinations, so it's a good idea to use it regularly to keep your pawn on track, and keep an eye on your pawn's profile to make sure the inclinations are correct.

Scather can be beneficial for Strider pawns, particularly if you build them as climbing specialist. Also Mitigator is I think more preferable for Mages instead of Challenger, considering with Mitigator your pawn is more inclined to use spells with AOE damage.

Edit: oops, I need to learn how to read XD I Saw you mentioned that kind of Strider as Strider Melee.

Have any fellow Assassin builds seen much success from using Invisibility+Gale Harness?

I'm thinking the invincibility and speed buffs (plus a liquid vim) would make for good crowd control and also perhaps good with one on one fights.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong though. I haven't purchased Invisibility yet and the DD wiki comments have stated it can be kind of useless.

edit: okay I tested it and lol without a liquid vim stamina plummets to zero in like five seconds. Need to power level to raise stamina

Yeah Scather is great (and preferred) on Striders, unless you really want them to favour their bow (maybe you have a superb bow but only average daggers); that's why I separated them out that way.

On Mitigator vs Challenger for casters, they'll both favour AOE attacks. In fact it's kind of hard to set up a good caster who won't go for AOE without also making them climb :(

I have my Mage set up as a Utilitarian/Challenger and she Comestions the living daylights out of everything, it's awesome :)

What is CAPCOM waiting for? We need a sequel! Or at least Dragon's Dogma Online.

If someone send me friend request, add info about NeoGAF or just Dragon's Dogma, because I don't accept request without any info.

I quote myself. After few more hours, my pawn is right now at 113 lvl and got new upgraded stuff, so he should be even more helpful.

Think I've hit a wall in BBI, killed the Dark Bishop and now the monsters are extremely tough. There's these new harpies and I'm doing little damage to them and bosses keep fucking appearing. First time I think it was 3 dogs, died, second time Death came and fucked me up.

I think I need new BBI equipment to dragonforge and then come back. Currently using Heavens Key and Dragons Breath lol. Is there a way to farm RC without relying on people hiring your pawn? I think my pawn has been hired once, think he's too masculine and covered up for people...

Looking for 1-2 Gaf mage pawns

Under level 50

Healing and weapon buffs prioritized

Thanks!

Trying to catch up!
My pawn (Anwyn, pictured in post #2) is a level 46 support Mage (healing and weapon buffs).

Bear in mind that hiring pawns who are much higher level than you will slow your level progression down though - I'm not sure what level you are, but thought it wise to mention (just in case).

What's the best weapons for ranger. Using the galvanic daggers and hunter bow but plan to move to ranger soon. Just met the duke of that helps in anyway. Also need suggestion for female sorcerer pawn outfit. Bored of the princess dress at this stage.

Cool. Honestly I’m not that worried about leveling up just want to be able to run around the woods at night and not get completely wrecked :)

BBi drops or those notice board quests from the back area of the pawn guild.

Better off trading rents with people imo.

You'll certainly gonna need BBI lvl 2 weps for that part. There's some chest that has a chane to drop them, also minobosses like Gorecyclops or Cursed Dragons

As every class, BBI lvl 3 weapons, but that's kinda far from your reach right now.Ranger uses the same daggers as everyone else, but uses Longbow instead of Shortbow.
You should buy whatever weapon is available on the store for now.

I would not flat out say "don't use Guardian"
I mostly play solo, but If I'm playing with my pawn, I like him to stay close and not be wasting time looting for me, also sometimes pawns that wonder far off end up getting knocked out out of cliffs or are to slow to catch up when you simply want to run out harms way.

Bottom line is ,
if you like playing the game (often drawing aggro) with just one pawn and not have to baby sit them
I would choose Guardian/ utilitarian.

But given that most people prefer range type Arisens (magic archers, rangers, mages, ect) I could see how the guardian class has a bad reputation.

Should have made my pawn a scantily dressed woman. Poor Phil gets no love being a fat guy, and his chipmunk voice probably doesn't help but it had to be accurate.

God I hate gargoyles so much. Until I get 100% petrification resistance, then god I love gargoyles so much. At that point it's a joy to clear out a BBI arena room full of them.

I gotta see this. I'll take him out later today.

This game. Exploration is so good, imagine if botw was made up like this

I want DD with a Zelda skin

--- I also fought a golem for the first time and the fight was sooooooo good. Having to climb about and hit each weak point! Fav enemy so far

Exactly 1mil rc. I dunno if that’s a hard cap or something but it was exactly 1mil.

Oh wait that might have been Vhayne. Sorry.

Yeah, might have been me. I've been running with Sansa for quite a while through BBI and Everfall now. Probably should release and rehire her more though, who knows how much RC you could've gotten otherwise. Death killed her last night though, so had to rehire her afterwards.

Trying to farm some decent gear but have had the absolute worst luck so far. Got the same damn bow 4 times in a row now! >.<

Having much more fun with this 5 year-old game than Shadow of War. So good to be back.
Great characters!

Man, this thread makes me want to dive back into this game...

I admit, I'm disappointed by the graphics on PS4 though, after playing it on PC. My PC is very dated and yet still looks better than on PS4 and it runs at 60fps. It's obviously an upgrade to the PS3 version (how did I ever play this for 200h back in the day, lol... tried it recently and the entrance of BBI is like a slideshow o_O) but you'd think the PS4 could make this look better.

Aww. If I were playing it on PS4 I'd totally rent your pawn. :(

Really? I feel like the lighting is better than Shadow of War and it looks quite sharp on my 4K screen. Wonders ahead of anything I ever saw on 360 and even better IQ than 1080p Dark Souls 3.

Man, you PC guys are so spoiled. :p

Better wait for the Xbox One X version I guess ...

Maybe it looks better in motion, IDK. Sometimes screenshots don't do a game justice.

As for being spoiled, hah, I actually play on PS4 usually, but my aging PC was more than capable of playing PS3 games at 1080p/60fps with high/highest settings, at least. I don't have a PS4 pro either. And I played DD: DA on PS3 for like 100+ hours back in the day. XD

One day, when I get a better PC, I'll probably get Dark Souls 3 for PC when on sale, and mod/reshade/whatever it to the max and just go nuts. But not today.

The hell? since when BBI reseted when jumping onto NG+?

Fuuuuuck that noise getting my cloud save back.
?? Since always. Why wouldn't it? BBI is still part of the game and NG+ resets everything.

For some reason I had it my mind that it keeps the same , but guess I totally forgot.

NG+ implementation was worse than I remembered. Starting you're blocked again of the advanced class, for example.

I think I'll stay in regular NG, even if accessing to the Ur Dragon is more annoying...

Any tips for doing better damage as a magic archer? It feels like my attacks do nothing.

Do you have the strength and magic boosting augments? The most popular:

Attunement +10% magic (Mage rank 9)
Acuity +20% magic (Sorcerer rank 9)
Vehemence +10% strength (Fighter rank 8)
Clout +20% strength (Warrior rank 9)

If you have those already you may just be underleveled or underequipped for the enemy. In that case, try to use your single highest damage hits.

For example, when fighting enemies who are hard to damage, it is better to use the Ferocity augment (Warrior rank 3) combined with a regular light attack, instead of using the faster, but lower damage per hit, Hundred Kisses.

Edit: I forgot, magick archer also has their own magic-boosting skill. Magick Rebalancer, rank 8.

Oh the jank of this game. Duchess just wanted to bone down with me, ended up fingering me and the Duke threw me in jail like three hours after knighting me. But then I just straight up walked out of jail and into the main audience chamber and talked to the Duke's chamberlain and nobody thought to apprehend me.

Ok, Dragon's Dogma. Sure thing.

Yes, that sounds like Dragon's Dogma. Try not to think about some things too much. That quest line in particular.

Yeah this is ridiculous.

But

I was eventually jailed again by some guard. I don't know if this was related but it came a good 3 hours later. Cracked me up.

LOL yeah that questline is a total mess. It's worth doing only because the follow-up quest will take you to a pretty cool dungeon and you can't access it otherwise (ugh), but everything about it is total nonsense.

It also ignores the in-game affinity/"romance" system, and strips your player of agency since you can't refuse the duchess' advances. It's almost as if that questline was written by some external consultant who had NO idea what the game was really about and it was included without vetting, lol
