From what I’ve seen, it’s all a bit cringe. It could be cool for teens struggling, though.
You can always not engage from the options they give? I’m unsure about that. I’ll never play it. It’s no Dustborn in its stupidity from the snippets.
It’s made by a trans director. It’s normal that it would be proud of trans identity and non-heteronormative ways of life. I don’t think it’s looking to enrage, trigger and divide. Dustborn was. This seems genuine in all its cringeness.
I get what your view point on that in general, but when it comes to this game specifically, isn't Dragon Age Veilguard doing a pisspoor job of handling these topics that are important to you and actively promoting the same culture wars you despise?
My heart aches. I really love that game. The most newsworthy part about that whole headline is that Jedi Survivor apparently did pretty poorly on Steam
I can’t disagree. That’s why I mentioned it was all a bit cringe. It’s just too on the nose and kind of too simple. Not a lot of space for nuance.I can understand this as a perception, however...
BG3 is one of the gayest and homoerotic games ever made. Universal praise on here and everywhere.
So I don't really think it's that. It's how this game handles it and browbeats you like a toddler. Written like a tumblr or twitter exchange of Narcissist Personality Disorder. Parsed from Reee threads, really.
According to him, If it's not developed by sony it's b tier!Dragon Age and Mass Effect are B-tiers franchises. I heard it all....
Now we’re back on track. Good old console wars. Makes me feel alive.According to him, If it's not developed by sony it's b tier!
Here's the issue with that as well. It doesn't teach teens to handle themselves or criticism. In fact, it teaches more of that 'holier than thou' attitude where the player must get down on their knees and grovel forgiveness for not adopting the persons worldview. From what I’ve seen, it’s all a bit cringe. It could be cool for teens struggling, though.

Holy shit you're all over these threads. Are you okay? You are as bad as some of the people on the other site just in the complete opposite direction, did Dragon Age hurt your feelings? Maybe log off the computer for a bit and touch some grass :They aint wrong though.
Problem is neither side is going to contribute in a way that actually matters, which is how the dev can better write a character like Taash and how it'd better fit in a medieval fantasy setting. Instead it's toxic positivity vs anti-woke brigade.
And this happens all the time. Doesn't matter if it's poorly done or not.
I was almost asleep when I came across IGN (i think) talking about you can tailor the combat experience to make it more enjoyable (ie: lower enemy health instead of difficulty, turn on glow'y silhouettes telling you where to go). I don't know how I feel about that, I have to customize the combat, because the developers were too lazy to tune the damn thing themselves. This and SkillUp's review are just... I do not know about this game. I want to give it a try, but I am just so damn tired of the "ha gotcha!" developer finger pointing feeling whenever I buy shit games these days.Fair enough, ill probably pick it up on sale at some point if sentiment stay like that.
But this is a 50-60 hour RPG, Skillups review (i have a similar taste) has me cautious as he said it gets repetitive as hell and he checked out around the 20 hour mark, and was thoughly bored by hour 50.
Let us know how you get on please
I agree. I don't care for either extreme. I just don't think the Veilguard writers have what narrative ability required handle the subject matter in a way that doesn't seem heavy handed and completely out of place. That's where the "cringe" comes in and frankly, just helps to fuel these "culture wars" that many of us despise.
I was going to send back the gamefly rental, but now I think I'm going to try the game. If much of this is only presented for gamers who create trans characters then I really don't have a problem with that. Taash will still be insufferable, I imagine, but I can overlook that. We will see....
You know what else had a big launch?
The Titanic.
My biggest take away from all this is how much Star Wars has fallen off as a brand.
I'm actually glad this is becoming more of a standard. Too many times in the past were people just screwed over by however devs felt things should be balanced. There are good games out there hamstrung by having typical bullet sponge enemies.talking about you can tailor the combat experience to make it more enjoyable (ie: lower enemy health instead of difficulty, turn on glow'y silhouettes telling you where to go). I don't know how I feel about that, I have to customize the combat, because the developers were too lazy to tune the damn thing themselves.
I've played it enough to know it's a good game. Unless it goes to absolute dog shit levels further which I doubt, it will remain a good game in my eyes which is all it matters. Its not a 10 or anything, but a 7.5/8.
I really dont think push up barve self awareness gotchas is doing you guys any favors.. but okFrom what I’ve seen, it’s all a bit cringe. It could be cool for teens struggling, though.

7.5/10 is pretty poor.
fake news are trying their best to prop up their DEI project
but gamers don't care about their woke shit, they have better game to play at this moment
I think you are not observing the old shtick of the media trying to tell us what we as gamers (not the capital G) should like and play by trying to drive the narrative. Yet, you see day one discrepancies of 6:1 for concurrent players. Yet again, the media has lost touch with reality of what constitutes a good game. If DA:V doesn't kiss the realm of BG3 numbers of CCU its going to be seen as a failure by the masses. This is a game designed for mass appeal versus a cRPG which historically is very averse to adopting new crowds. Why does everything have to be a battle with you guys? Is it possible that people can like both Dragon Age:V and Monster Hunter Wilds?
I gotcha! But I'm saying some actual gamers here on GAF will like DA:V. Isn't it okay to allow them to like the game without throwing other RPGs in their face?I think you are not observing the old shtick of the media trying to tell us what we as gamers (not the capital G) should like and play by trying to drive the narrative. So, with that said, there is a conversation to be had whether heated or civil to explore just what is popular and what is going to yield a positive return for future installments. 400K day one players or 70k? I believe the wannabe corporate overlords are going to shelve the 70k and focus their development funds towards the 400k.
I showed some video reviews to my wife last night in a desperate attempt to prevent her from starting a fourth run of bg3. If I have to hear that theme for another 80 hours I'm going to slam my head in a car door.
I think that would be a fair point to make if this were the OT. But in a thread about sales, it’s fair to criticize the claims being made about those sales and to make sales/CCU comparisons with other games.I gotcha! Tyranny of the mob my man.I gotcha! But I'm saying some actual gamers here on GAF will like DA:V. Isn't it okay to allow them to like the game without throwing other RPGs in their face?
Can’t disagree with any of that. It’s cringe. It’s childish. It’s immature. It’s “Marvel”esque. Which might be a bigger symptom of the infantilisation of society and the tyranny of cuteness.I really dont think push up barve self awareness gotchas is doing you guys any favors.. but ok
