Rep, there's a big difference between games like Veilguard and From's products. I don't remember anyone claiming that they were threatened either.

Games like Elden Ring are games that you don't like, and I personally think are overrated. Games like Veilguard are unforced errors that waste 5-6 years of dev time and shut down studios. I also think they contribute to the downward trend of interest in the single player side of the medium.

I know you have high expectations of the established AAA teams: At bare minimum, they should not be making projects that are so clearly off putting to paying customers that they wind up doing less than 1.5 million sales after a month for a Dragon Age title.

If this lesson isn't learned, there will be fewer studios of the caliber you and want to be making SP games, and smaller budgets going towards them at that. Naughty Dog may well be up next.

Then again, you were maybe also part of the group of people that either supported or did not say anything when people mobbed game devs that did not adapt to “modern audiences”, when people were getting cancelled (sorry deplatformed) / called up at their day jobs trying to get them fired, when people “pretended to misunderstand” Popper’s intolerance paradox, when people were judge, jury, and executioner online, when it was either you are part of the solution or part of the problem level of discussion, when it was enough to say something that sounded similar to someone “implicated” with someone your group did not like, etc… when it was not cancel culture but consequences culture right?
