If it was just about top surgery scars or one shitty questline/character, the game could have sent mixed signals, could have been "divisive" with some pros and cons regarding how they treated the franchise...
But honestly it's fortunate for the devs and the game that we only talked about the surface, cause from what i have seen they really trampled the universe of DA with this game, to no end. Like razing it then salting the earth so no one can make it grow again.
People who do that to a franchise deserve harsh criticism to some degree, they need to be put in their place after showing such excessive behavior, of course i'm not condoning death threats or things like that. But when you ruin a franchise people get mad, always been like that. You want to avoid that, don't feed the hysteria.

Maybe for these kinds of games, the modern audience did buy the game...... but ooops..... a lot of the existing fanbase for the game said forget it. And which group is bigger? The non-woke group as always.
It's not just video games. It can be anything. Take an existing product, inject political hot topics into it, preach it, and their Einstein business strategy of: "If we can get that 1.5% of loud modern audience people to buy our product, we just increased sales extending our product reach!"
But that assumes there's zero effect on the existing customer base who will then evaluate the new product based on it's new features and image.

But it's video games. Unlike most industries out there, they got a knack for making products melded in with their personal home life issues. And when gamers laugh or criticize, they also got an itching to fight back on social media. And the funny thing is it isn't even low level workers who are loose cannons. It's actually often times senior roles, directors or even the head of the studio who talks back because they also (attention whoring as always) got to be the face of the company. Most companies and products nobody knows or cares who actually makes it or who the ceo is. But in gaming, they all got to self promote themselves and the product like movie stars.

Online hate mobs have almost zero impact on game sales. There was a massive boycott against Hogwarts Legacy, even major outlets got involved, and the game still sold gangbusters.
Veilguard, like Concord, wasn't washed away by a tidal wave of hate, it ran smack bang into a concrete wall of disinterest. $70 is a lot of money and this game didn't convince people it was worth it.

BioWare bent over backwards in the face of all sales logic to make a game aimed specifically at them. By all accounts, it was a very sincere attempt by your own kind to give you the game you wanted (this particular streamer even celebrated the top surgery scars in the early previews). The director Corinne Busche is transgender for fuck sake.
Ungrateful cretinous behaviour. BioWare tanked their own sales and a hundred people lost their jobs trying to put a smile on this beast's face and all he/she can do is complain that it wasn't enough after all.
Hopefully, for the sake of any more industry jobs, this is the last we see of trying to please these people.
