Yes, this! I quite often find myself agreeing with him on a lot of stuff in reviews. I appreciate a source like XboxEra too, but I definitely don't always agree with some very high praise they give to some games. But that's fine.
No code, he mentioned it earlier in the thread.

"[The game] is a colossal disappointment. I really can't put it any other way. I spent 50 hours playing this, and it was time that I desperately wish I could get back. I started having my doubts at around the 10 hour mark, I was thoroughly checked out at the 20 hour mark, and the remaining 30 hours were just excruciatingly painful as I was forced to suffer through the endless morass of banality that is Dragon Age: The Veilguard. In many ways, Veilguard is a bigger disappointment than Anthem was."

I expect this game is in the 70's at best once the dust settles. The writing looks god awful from what i've seen.

Sounds pretty much like Inquisition, the last 50 hours were torture and i just wanted it done.

That Skillup video is rough. The dialogue scenes remind me of Hogwarts Legacy - everyone just happily chats to each other with no feeling or emotion. And it doesn't help that the facial animations are non-existent. The main character constantly resolves conflicts by giving the companions a little friendly talking-to and a life lesson. Jeez.

I pity console players who have to rely on reviews in order to decide whether their $70 will be wasted or not.

Well, good thing they offer a refund option. I believe on Xbox you can play a game almost two hours and then you can ask for a refund. So if I were to do that I'd spent zero time in character creator and jump right in.

I don't think a game's reviews have ever been this inconsequential.

Most people already had their minds made up about buying/skipping it long before the reviews dropped. Mostly just confirmation bias reactions from both sides at this point.

I watched half of that video before it started to sound entitlement and resentment over not getting a code. "We didn't get a code so don't trust anybody else's review" is crazy mentality.

All publishers send codes at their own discretion. It has always been that way. There are already "negative" reviews popping up in this thread.

Not defending EA or the game here, I'm not even sure if I'm going to get it yet, but it would have been better for Fextra to just say they didn't receive a code when people asked for a review.

It's definitely not entitlement.

He's spot on about reviewers being "screened" beforehand and being blacklisted for even the slightest criticism.

This guy has over 1 million subs, Dragon Age Origins is one of his favorite games of all time and the RPG genre is the primary content he covers. EA would have 100% sent him a review code had his impressions video from a few weeks ago been all positive. It's good that Fextra did say something. Shitty practices like this need to be called out.

He also stanned hard for Starfield and shattered space.

I know people like him because of his "after 100%" gimmick but he's anything but impartial. The western publishers have him on a leash.
I mean, a review is not "impartial" by definition and critique even less.

That said, I more or less agree with your point, in the sense that there have been several of his past judgments I disagreed with.

Now that's an amazing back of the box quote!!!

Didn’t they go the FF16 route with this and remove party members? You only get to control the MC right?

Haven’t kept up with it at all, but that alone makes it a pass for me.
