The problem is not the DEI atl all. It's that it's always right into your face with a big fat 🔨. You can write DEI characters without them feeling like shit but there not a lot of positive examples.
Makes sense, although to me games don’t need politics at all unless it’s an actual strategy game involving politics like taking over the world with military and diplomacy kind of politics.

But game makers have to push it loud and proud in everyone’s face so they know it’s there, even though I thought the view of lgbt people is that they are chill and don’t want to be outcasted in the public like a freak show.

Similarly game makers almost always make black people with giant afros, scary spice, or killmonger hair to get the point across in a stereotypical bigoted way.

I don’t mind but it makes me question the review scores, the IGN one makes a big deal about this as they are trans themselves then gives it a 9, then you have reviewers that are not far left giving this much lower scores…

But maybe this is no more unfair than straight guys giving extra points to stellar blade because of ass physics..

I had a talk with my wife about this because she hated when I used the term “woke”. She explained it to me this way: progression for a suppressed group of people is suppose to be a good thing. I’m not part of that group, so I don’t know how that would make me feel. She also hated that I used the term “snowflake”.

God bless your good heart wife, but may i ask how exactly are they suppressed?

I mean it's fine to have a character say something like that, but the inverse should also be fine if you want to create an actual rpg and play however you want, your character should also be able to ignore it and respond however they want, regardless how "rude" or "offensive" it might appear to some people, instead of this unilateral acceptance like they are afraid to get an HR complaint or twitter cancelation.

remember how you could just punch people in the face in mass effect instead of talking to them? Good time.

I don’t mind DEI characters in my games as long as it’s subtle and not overly forced. In fact, even from a DEI perspective, it can feel disrespectful to the groups being represented when characters are reduced to nothing more than a token representation. It ends up feeling shallow and insincere.

Absolute fax. If stuff like this upsets you you're worse than the supposed people you hate.

I dont hate people or any group of minorities. What I do hate is companies shoving into their games politics

I am not playing games to be lectured, this is what is bothering me

But I don't hate these people, in fact I feel for them because I understand that it's been difficult and they have my support, but bringing this into videogames and making it the main focus is what is wrong.

I think most people that complains about woke stuff have this type of thinking too, some might have more extreme views but mine is basically this one and I dont think I am a bad person for thinking this way

You guys also got to remember that the loud political people use media to get the message across because it’s a product that involves story and characters. Story heavy games like RPGs or action games will have enough text and plot to carry an agenda. You can’t really do that with sports, puzzle games or a turn based hex WWII game.

So that’s why political narratives are funneled a lot through tv movies and story heavy games.

You can’t push the politics selling snow shovels, water coolers or kitchen appliances either kind of thing.

So the key last bastion to push their political mindset is any product that has enough plot to give it room to move. And that product line is media.

And they are smart enough to know that. That’s why media is heavy in green haired people while your typical non media company isn’t. No company selling coffee mugs or hardwood flooring or mortgages is going to politicize their products. They’d be kicked out the door pinked slipped asap. But a movie or game maker can.

Aren’t these things all optional? Can’t you just ignore them? I don’t give a shit about the game, looks terrible, but I would think this is all optional?

I saw a review mentioning there are more non-binary characters than Taash. Most of them are some randos you meet while playing

It's a no go for me. Not supporting any product that attempts to force me to sympathize or empathize with that lunacy. Doesn't really matter to me whether the game is good or not. Didn't matter with The Last Of Us 2 which I'm sure is a very fun game.

If I see something I don't like I just ignore it. To be honest the only reason Bioware is dead, is because their games have turned into complete shit. Some of you are acting like there were no warning signs. It was well known this game was going to be an agenda piece etc but whatever. I'm sure this thread will make one hell of a read in a couple of days 🪖🦄🎢

There is woke and then there is this. You never go full woke. To the odd ones on here who says it's not big deal, it clearly is as why you care so much to get annoyed by somebody who doesn't like it. Oh wait, these are the same people who had an issue with Resident Evil 5, where you kill black zombies in Africa. I don't think that's a big deal.
