Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

That is nice and thanks for that, but that wouldn't get the shops to upgrade though wouldnt it?
You would get the worst upgrade if you gave them any of the idol forgery, but you get some humorous results. Lower than giving them Bronze Idol. It will complete the quest though. The BBI loot will outdate those gear really fast. The Gold Idol or forgery provides the biggest discount to all shops except for Fournival and maybe Montebank.

Crap, I accidently handed away the Wyrmking Ring when I speeded through all mainline quests during my second playthrough! Sucks as I play as sorcerer. :(

Trying to complete my missing trophys during this run and also do some BBI. The trophies I got left are the following:

The Coin Collector - Earned a total of 10,000,000G.
Well Equipped - Obtained 350 pieces total of weapons and armor.
The Ever-Turning Wheel - Completed the adventure a second time.
The Messiah -
Defeated the Ur-Dragon.

I only collected about 3.000.000g so far and i'm pretty far into my second run so any hints on how to earn more gold would be appreciated! Although I kept most of the gear I found so I suppose I can sell it all for a nice amount of money once I achieved Well Equipped.

I would also love to add some of you guys with awesome high lvl pawns to my friends list so I can get some help fighting the
Ur-Dragon
and tackle BBI. It would be cool if someone could hire my pawn and rate it as well (or maybe even use it :O).. so far none has ever hired it during my two playthroughs! :(

My PSN id is: lilljolle
Pawn name: Salamandra

This sounds like a great opportunity to get rid of some of the level 2 BBI weapons I have. I'll add you and then send you a bunch of them. Once purified they vendor for up to 1 million gold per weapon.

Also if you do want the ring, a third playthrough can be done incredibly quick. You are going to have to start a second NG+ by default if you want that trophy for finishing your first NG+. You can rush through the story to get up to the ring again in no time at all. I only point this out because if you are going to be doing BBI you are probably going to want every advantage you can get as it is a fairly challenging dungeon when you go through it the first time.

Sounds awesome, thanks alot!

About the ring I realised I still had the ring from the first playthrough in my storage... how embarassing.

I think I can still get a silver idol, so I will look into that. Otherwise I'll just forge ahead, and get to the end so I can try out BBI. Thanks

Thanks again ZenaxPure for the items and the kind rating!

I entered BBI for the first time and encountered
Death (big flying grim reaper thing)
in the second room I believe. I turned and ran out again! :D
After calming down I headed back in and managed to down a Gorecyclops and a Gazer so i'm pretty happy with my progress.

I checked my pawn status and she had been hired 10 times already right before I loged out. Thanks a lot everyone who hired her!

BS that you need a bow to beat the golem in witchwood. Stop punishing melee builds, capcom. Oh well, gonna come back take him down once i retrieve the port crystal too. Should have brought one with me to the great wall. This shit is faaaaarrrr

Golem as in normal Golem? You don't need bows at all.

*Metal Golem* on the other hand, fuck that shit.

I added you yamo. I should note that my pawn is kind of a support type. I have her using a 3-star Rusted Longbow with the Morbidity augment. She's able to inflict torpor and I believe poison on most enemies. Torpor slows down enemies, and poison is obvious. Torpor is pretty useful. It can get inflicted on an Imprisoned Gorecyclops for example and it slows it down. She still has Framae Blades for damage though

Also I got up to lvl 150 but didn't want to level anymore. It was taking too long. Beat Daimon 2 and Death and I'm done with the game pretty much.

IIRC Metal Golem is the only Golem in Witchwood, but, it's been a while.

And yeah fuck the one in Witchwood. The one in BBI is actually much better implemented, I was able to do it no problem as a Magick Archer.

There is a lot of normal golems as well in Witchwood, I accidentally awakened one while fighting the Metal Golem. They are curled up like boulders all over the riverbed.

Any hints on how to take on the
Ur-Dragon
? Should I do it online or offline? Any hints are appreciated really!

If you just want the trophy (or a ton of wakestones) killing him offline is the best way to do it. Online version requires a lot of waiting around.

Cheers thanks, will try it offline first then!

Thanks Zerokoolpsx as well for taking my pawn for a run! Got some really nice bows for both my pawn and myself! :D

Assassin is so far ahead of the other melee classes once you get the augments from the others. It just embarasses the warrior, sadly.

Killed the griffin so quick it didnt get the chance to fly to bluemoon tower.

And the metal golem was a cinch. Dps god

I'd say all the yellow classes are on par with each other really. Even though I play Magick Archer I run with nothing but melee augments save for sinew and the cast time reduction.

It's really just Warrior that stands out as being underpowered, Fighter is more of a tank/support class anyhow. Warrior though, blehhhhh. I like playing it but the damage is just always crap compared to the yellow classes.

Warrior is pretty underpowered. If they gave them secondary skills and a skill to parry, it would jump up close behind the fighter.

I run the same augments on my Magick Archer except switch out the cast time reduction for the greatly magick boost augment. It was a 400 magic stat boost compared to shooting much faster, but hitting much harder. My Magick Archer is primary strength based. Looking back now, I should have made her balanced, but oh well. My Thousand Kisses and Immolation hurts a ton.

Killed Online Ur two more times and got Beowulf masks on both of them. I brought a friend's fighter pawn and it was so useless. I wanted him to have knowledge on the Ur-Dragon, but it almost cost me a kill during Grace Period.

That's a good idea now that you mention it, might be able to use stamina more efficiently if I swap out the cast time for the magic boost. Going to have to give that a whirl.

Just started playing it. No real read on it thus far except its goddamn ugly. Especially colour banding at night, omgggg is this for real. But I've barely left the first village since I've been walking around smashing stuff and talking to everyone.

I actually prefer how the game looks at night, I especially like the lighting in dungeons with a lantern equipped.

Defeated
Daimon
and platinumed the game. Brought Zerokoolpsx and Laughing Bananas pawns with me for the kill! (would have brought yours ZenaxPure, but I find it hard to fit a sorcerer and usually run with a mage instead)

Started my third run through... will probably slow down though and try play some other games as well!

I actually have a hard time doing parties as well because most pawns people seem to have around here are rangers or striders and I don't really have room for them :p. My ideal setup is always mage/sorc/fighter/me but I rarely ever actually run it when I am getting RC for people.

That is actually one of the main reasons I ran with Banana's mage for so long (ignoring the fact it was the only pawn around my level at the time).

yamo

My regular setup is mystic archer(me), ranger (my pawn), mage and a fourth member. How ever I find sorcerers having a hard time in my group, channeling spells without a fighter to take some heat of them. So my fourth member is usually anything but sorcerer unfortunately. Maybe when I get my defenses up a bit more I will try skipping the mage.

What's the best build for an assassin? I think I was a fighter until about level 10 before switching to assassin and am level 45ish now, just attempting the Everfall.

I'd say hundred kisses or gouge is an absolute must (depending on what weapon you use) but outside of that you can really just use whatever else you like.

I've been trying Bitterblack Isle and getting my butt kicked. Is level 47ish (Magick Archer) too low to be doing the 2nd tier after beating the massive eye boss? I got one shot by the club-wielding goat man and have had to run away from a ton of fights. I love the Dark Arisen content though, and getting sweet gear is awesome.

Was it the hammer stomp from the Eliminator? That's a guaranteed kill on any Arisen.

My usual party was me(Magick Archer), Ranger(my pawn), sorcerer and mage, but lately, I've been bringing other rangers, striders and sometimes two sorcerers. Don't need heals since I carry some curatives, predation and regen gear so I don't take mages with me anymore. That and them not having high voidspell, not sure why mages didn't get it when its a support skill. Just realized the MA has Great Ward Arrow. It clears all debilitations. I never used it. They got so many tools that are so useful.

So they got heals with Grand Scension, a magick buff spell with Magick Rebalancer that can stack like a demon's periapt, Great Bracer Arrow and Great Ward Arrow.
Casting Magick Rebalancer 4 times and using 4 demon's periapt would bring your magic to ludicrous levels.

Also ZenaxPure, Inflection is bugged. Instead of reducing damage by half while casting a spell, it doubles it. I seen pawns get destroyed with it on fighting Daimon's 2nd form. Literally one shotted.

Well, with Ninefold bolt and 4 cast of Magick Rebalancer and I one shotted an Eliminator in the Fallen City when all nine bolts hit. Can't believe the bars just disappear so fast. Magick Rebalancer is my new favorite skill now. Testing out Morbidity with Immolation. Swapping out Predation for it.

The hell? That is crazy. Just checked it out on the wiki to make sure (not that I don't believe you, but, wanted more info) and that seems like a huge oversight on the devs part. Especially considering that would be an incredibly useful ability to have. I will have to change out my augments before I go to bed then. I've been changing my pawn's spells a lot lately trying to find a good balance between the long cast time abilities and the shorter ones, but, haven't landed on anything I'm happy with yet. I also changed her inclination around since I was reading something that said you can control what their third hidden inclination is easily. I'd like her to be more aggressive, but, also try to not be in melee range. Wish it was easier to achieve.

Also yeah magic rebalancer is the shit. I stopped running with it eventually because I got to a point where I was just skipping most mobs, but, it's amazing if you are aiming to kill everything in your path.

I really want to like this game but I feel it's very cheap:

  • Poor A.I. and lack of proper commands makes all fights a real chore
  • Difficulty curve is very weird. In fact the game is fucking HARD even on Normal, due mainly to poor controls especially during combat.
  • Checkpoints (or lack thereof) ruin it for me. I just played 30 min, got ambushed in the woods, fought for what felt like an eternity, got back and killed thieves then got killed by a metric ton of fucking invisible lizard spearmen. WTF
  • No dodge mechanic

I dunno, the game is strange. I want to like it but I feel it is too ambitious for its own good. Everything takes ages to explore since it's so immense. I thought Xenoblade was big, but this is ridiculous. The first town is bigger than most towns from other RPGs, combined.

That's the first time I heard the controls are poor. The only time that is brought up is climbing a large monster because the camera has a hard time navigating around them.

If you are a strider or any other thief like class, you can dodge roll with daggers by pressing right trigger then A. Or if you are playing on ps3 its R1 then X. If you are playing a class with shields, blocking is insanely good in this game. If you time your block right before it hits you, you can stagger the enemy and even knockdown large enemies like the chimera, allowing you to chop them up. If you are a mage or sorcerer, well that's harder to manage, especially early game since you don't have any passives or items to help you charge faster.

But early game is hard in this because you lack a skills that would be very useful and low stats. But it's actually a complaint that the game gets too easy later in the game until you hit post-game and BBI. Just keep trying to do any quests around the area you are in before taking on quests that go really far. That way you would level up more naturally and take things on easier. If you also have really high level pawns with you, they eat up your exp, even though some could trivialize fights.

Dodge roll is exclusive to the yellow vocations.
You can save as long as your not in combat anywhere on the map. Going to a new area where the screen loads usually creates a save point. Resting at Inns also create them.
Using the dpad can tell your pawns to come to you or fight ahead.
Gotta use your skills and curatives. I seen the retry screen plenty of times myself starting out. Don't venture out at night.

Yeah, and I mean really at the end of the day it's still a party based game and assuming the pawn's inclinations are set up right they will do a good enough job. The classes that can't dodge can block (or in the warrior's case be sturdy as fuck) and the spell casters are meant to be protected by other pawns (at least early on). On my alt account where I'm exclusively doing Sorcerer I can't stand to play without my fighter pawn, they can do a good job taking the heat off you.

Also in other news I finally got a usable piece of gear today (which is my first in about 20 kills, maybe more). Replaced my pawn's grave boots with the carrion ones and I replaced her carrion hat with another that had a better passive effect (though it's still not amazing or anything).

Either way I'm pretty happy about it, as it stands right now all I need are oblivion gloves and carrion gloves and I will have full sets. Stupid RNG has held me back for too long.

I guess I went too far. I was trying to escort that guy all the way to a far far away place but got ambushed by a giant troll-like monster during the night while fighting bandits AND fucking wolves everywhere. I should have saved after the fight but I thought it would be ok, little did I know lizard spearmen would ambush me at the same exact place where I crossed the river during night and there was nothing.

I'll try to level up before going back to that place (i'm lvl 18)

My fondest memories with this game are getting lost at night with my assassin and wrecking every encounter while spamming masterful kill and reset. Try the assassin class, get those skill I mentioned and prepare to be blown away.

If I have one complaint with DD it's that abilities like these become so useless the longer you play the game. I used to be a HUGE snakebite fan because you could use it to keep normal enemies permanently knocked down and hack away at them with hundred kisses, but, it's so pointless at high levels.

You basically get to a point where everything dies so fast that it is more effective to just use your AOE abilities to mow down hordes of enemies at once. I mean, that can be fun too (I am a huge fan of vortex trail and ricochet hunter/biting wind/explosive rivet after all) but a part of me really misses those fights from earlier in the game where you are basically taking down one dude at a time and you are using stuff like masterful kill/snakebite/etc. to do it while your pawns keep the other enemies at bay.

I wish there was a way to crank up the HP of enemies by like 10x or something. Or in a better case maybe make BBI get harder each time you beat it (with some sort of cap obviously).

I recently got the game off PSN after ignoring it for way too long. I have a laundry list of complaints, but there's just this stupid charm about the game that I love.

Also, this is the best Assassin's Creed game I've ever played. I've never had more fun just climbing in a game before. This nails climbing better than Uncharted, AC, Tomb Raider, or just about anyone. There's no ridiculous safe-climbing up a rockwall, it's a lot of vaulting and getting to where you need to go.

MAGIK ARCHER

I can't believe I ignored this game for so long.

My two biggest complaints, though are wolves and the day/night system. I loathe games that have pitch black darkness, it's just not fun for me.

Absolute crazy talk!

I'm finally getting into Dark Arisen (after having spent a ton of hours into DD when it came out), the excuse being that i lost all my saves, on ps3.

This game is so good, goddamnit.

Doing Assassin/Sorcerer main game, to give my eventual Magic Archer some juice when it'll hit the DA content, it being the most fun class in the game, you know.

Can I change my Arisen's moniker at any point?
I've just started the game and while making my main pawn I realised that Jackal was available for a moniker, which would have been fitting considering my character is named Anubis.
I chose Guile for my moniker, because Guile.

I'm not bothered at all if I can't change it, just curious.

You should be but not until later in the game. You will be able to buy a Secret of Metamorphosis in exchange for a good amount of Rift Crystals. This item will allow you to edit your Arisen and Main Pawn as if you're creating them for the first time.

There's a similar item called Art of Metamorphosis but it's single use only so I'd suggest saving your RCs for the SoM instead.

Sweet.
As I said, it's the most nitpicky thing to want to do, and I should have been paying more attention with the monikers, but it's cool that I may be able to change it.

Anyone want lvl. 3 cursed weapons? purifying the last three I have gives me what I don't want and since I can't sell it for money, I may as well give them away.

Edit: If anyone does, please tell me within the next 15 hours or so, otherwise you'll have to wait two weeks.

is this something i could use as a newbie?

Ok, I'm getting used to this game now. I'm level 23 and have my mage vocation levelled to 9. My plan is to move onto Sorcerer, Warrior, then finally to Mystic Knight. The flame staff that I have now is awesome, and it saves me from any downtime when I don't have Fire Boon cast on me.

I'm at the thieves camp near Witchwood for the tome sidequest and I'm just wondering if I'm good to just steal it or if that'll screw me out of anything later on?

You can steal it right away or do the quest for him to give it to you. Easier and faster to just steal it.

Technically yes but you'll take a stamina hit and you'll need 28K rift crystals. I'm not offering it anymore though, I found out that the order I'll be getting the weapons won't change even if I discard/sell or give away the items. If you DO want something, I'd be more then happy to give you lvl 2 weapon or armour, you'll still need roughly 8K rift crystals to purify them.
