Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

Are there any hydra's in NG+? I just noticed I don't have the headhunter trophy, even though I could have sworn I got it during the main quest at the encampment. From the wiki it looks like post-game only :/
There is a quest in Encampment quest board that leads you to the Hydra at Frontier Cavern. After you defeat it for the first, hydra will regularly spawn there with seven days respawn time.

I'll try, just it seems like a giant world.

The world is huge and you can go basically anywhere you want from the start, so it's a bit daunting. I'd say try to explore here and there if you can but leave most of the exploration till once you reach Gran Soren. Once you explore more and continue to take a look at the map, you'll have an easier time grasping where to go.

I've been playing for almost 30 hours and haven't even done the Wyrm Hunt quests yet lol. Too busy doing escort quests and trying to map Gransys out. Still have a ways to go.

Unlocked all shortcuts and did 2 Daimon runs. In that room with the 4 chests after you kill him. On my first run, chest #4 gave me BB armor lvl 3 on the first try. It never gave me that. So on my 2nd Daimon run, I godsbane for 20 minutes in front of that chest. Nothing. In 120+ Daimon runs and multiple godsbaning, never seen BB armor lvl 3 from it before. Has anyone gotten BB armor lvl 3 off that one? You know, the one chest by itself facing the other 3 chests. Maybe it was because it was the first time killing Daimon in this NG+? Well, I'm done for tonight. Hope you get your Delta Guard Garland :)

That one chest will *never* contain Armor lv. 3 beyond 1st run. Only Gear and Novelty.

Not encampment, IIRC, but at the Pawn's Guild.

And you can also encounter Hydras at BBI, 2nd run and beyond only though, IIRC.

Really? I've never ran into a Hydra in BBI ever. Kinda bummed me out actually because they are pretty fun to fight once you learn how to actually damage them effectively, I think I've only fought 3 of them ever in my entire time with the game. Would be nice to see one somewhere in BBI.

Also I dived down the hole and made a new character on a different account. If anyone around still has low level pawns I will happily add them to my party. Going to take my time and actually play legit again, just going to main Sorcerer/Mage since they are what I spent the least amount of time with in the game and I want to learn them better.

My alt's pawn is level 30 or so. He was a mage but I just turned him into a sorcerer. He has strong gear that I gifted him but nothing OP, I think. :) PSN: ArrogantSmirk, get him, he's lonely lol

Fighting Daimons 2nd form now, pawns all warn me not to get sucked into his vortex, 2 seconds later all 3 got flushed. Now I got no healing potions left of any kind (only had a few once I got here anyways) and 1 wakestone left. on the plus side, he's on his last bar of health ;)
I got 1 delta last night, now I just need one for the pawn ;)

I'll keep my eye out for those hydra's I only need 6 more trophies for plat. 3 are dumb, 1 is the hydra, 1 is complete NG+, and the last is for 350 eq/weap (I'm at about 320).

Yes, I've fought them a couple of times in BBI, both Hydras and Arch Hydras. Hydras can appear in Rotunda of Dread, that one that you enter on the 3rd floor area above Duskmoon Tower. Occasionally you can fight Golem/Metal Golem or multiple Ogres too there.

It appear I was mistaken somewhat about the run information. Pre-daimon, Hydras can also appear there. Arch Hydras can only appear there only post-Daimon, however.

For a more reliable spawning point for Arch Hydras, though, you can always try Everfall's Chamber of Hesitation.

Ahh Rotunda of Dread. That place should be easy enough to try for one.

Got 2 delta guards of those armors my pawn brought back, right on! ;)

I played kind of all over the place at first and then settled on assasin which is tons of fun, but actually because of main game mechanics, if I were to start over I would make my character a sorceror and my pawn as well, and hire mage/ranger type parties.... because of how dumb the pawns can be, although they do surprise you at times, they won't initiate many fights in close spaces (BBI especially).... Yesterday I wanted to dragonforge some of my pawns equipment so I switched to sorceror, equipped her stuff and left her as a sorc too... she mirrored all my spells in the rotunda of dread while we hid in the hallway, it was a breeze... unfortunately I am now level 150 or so and my magic is like 250, pretty bad... anyway in BBI at least you can really wreck stuff with two sorcerors because they will often mirror and there's lots of places to hide... anyway I'm still loving my assasin but two sorc is pretty sweet too... if you get two smart pawns sometimes i go sorc, sorc, mage.

Yeah, I knew about the everfall ones, that was the one I've fought the most. Didn't realize they could spawn in the Rotunda of Dread though, everytime I go in there it's a bunch of bishops and chimeras haha.

Nice. You're not that far off from the platinum.
100% of the time, you have to save them unless they stand so far away, the rift attack doesn't pull them in like behind the pillars or near the throne.

Got the hydra in the rotunda last night, thx for the tip ;)

I finally got one to spawn in there as well and was like "hell yeah, time for an awesome fight", but, just as I cut off my first head my pawn cast Grand Bolide which then one shot the Hydra.

Does each head count as a different enemy? Because literally every single meteor landed on the fucker, I couldn't believe it.

Got my 2nd magick bowman ring with sixfold and explosive rivet. Might as well wear it. Maybe I should take out Vortex Trail and have fun with explosive volley.

Should I give the Gold Idol to Caxton or Madeleine? Right now I'm an Assassin but by the 90's I'll be a Sorceror and by 200 a Magick Archer. For long term purposes I'm thinking Madeleine, though I don't know if her equipment will stack up to anything I can I get in Everfall/BBI eventually, so I might go Caxton...

Should I give the other person a Silver Idol then? Also, should I be in NG+ before doing the bulk of BBI or does it not matter?

It doesn't matter really since their gear will be outdated even by Dragon's Weapons, and then by Everfall Merchants. Just remember though to visit Montebank and have him forge you the Gold Idol so you can keep your 30% discount bonus from it.

The funny thing is Olra's DLC actually cause a glitch where *ALL* merchants will get their stock boosted to their maximum levels as if you have raised their affinities to the maximum, including Caxton and Madelaine, hahaha.

I just hit the maximum gold you could attain. It's 99,999,999 gold. You can still collect gold, it just won't go any higher. You can't sell anything to the store either as if being over encumbered when buying something, its grayed out.
Time to visit Daimon, my old buddy again. Oh yeah, changed my pawn too. Got tired of Mercedes and customized my pawn to something more original.

Does BBI reset to pre-Daimon when you go into NG+? Also, all the enemies get harder each time you go into NG+ right? I'm around lvl 130 right now and don't want to hit 200 before I go into NG+ but now BBI is easy for me so I might want to go into NG+.

No.

Enemies will never change their level. They do not scale with you or your playthroughs.

BBI reset to pre-Daimon in NG+. yes.

So, I was searching for the locations of level 3 armor chests in Bitterblack, and came across something interesting on the Dragon's Dogma wiki site. Maybe you guys have seen this before, but I think it might help some of you. I know Hydrargyrus has been killing himself trying to get that sword, others might be grinding for something specific too.

From what I understand, the game sets a counter on when you will purify one of the "extremely rare" items. This counter never changes (i.e. you must purify X number to get one) unless you completely empty your supply of unpurified items (you can trade most of them, but the last one must be purified by you).

If you get something you don't like, you can Godsbane yourself and Retry, then switch vocations of you and your pawn to a different category (Yellow strider/ranger to Red fighter/warrior) and get a different armor type, but it will still be the same stat/piece based on the above mentioned counter. For example, you get purified a Shadow Armor (lower tier) chest piece with health regen. If you Godsbane and switch to fighter/warrior, you will only be able to get the lower tiered chest piece with health regen. According to the guide, the only way to get a fresh item is to change your counter.

Again, this is buried somewhere in the DD Wiki site. These steps diverge at a certain point for weapons vs. armor:

Step 1: Start a new pattern; to do this you need to purify your last Weapon or Armor Lv.3. In the case of weapons make sure you do the same with your Weapons Lv.2.

Step 2: Get a Weapon/Armor Lv.3. Note: You can use the Godsbane to go back to the point right before you purified anything. Make sure you save before you purify as you will use this a lot.

After this point the steps will go separate ways.

Steps (Weapons)

Weapon Lv.2s are crucial; when purified at the same time, Weapon Lv.3s will follow the same pattern as the Lv.2. This can be exploited by saving Rift Crystals and identifying Lv.2s.

Step 3: Get a Weapon Lv.2

Step 4: Purify and look at the results of the Weapon Lv.2.If it's NOT the type of Weapon you need, refer to Step 5.If it is the type of Weapon you need, refer to Step 6.

Step 5: Godsbane yourself. Redo Step 2, 3 and 4.

Step 6: Purify both Weapons at the same time. The Weapon Lv.3 will follow the same pattern of the Weapon Lv.2.For example, you're looking for a Sword and the 5th Weapon Lv.2 purified is Sword. This means the 5th Weapon Lv.3 will also be a Sword.

Step 7: Done

Steps (Armor)

Unlike the Weapon Steps, Armor Lv.2s are not needed, instead the only thing that is needed are Armor Lv.3s. The steps below help determine the interval at which higher tiered Armors will appear, however it does not set the pattern. High tiered Armors that show up first do not count, instead the second purified Armor will. The chances of purifying a High tiered Armor is roughly 10%, the below method should help increase the chances to between 11% to 50%.

Step 3: Get an Armor lv.3

Step 4: Purify and look at the results of the Armor Lv.3. If it's a Low tiered Armor (Sin/Grave/Shadow Armor Set), refer to Step 5.If it's a High tiered Armor (Hellfire/Carrion/Oblivion Armor Set), refer to Step 6.

Step 5: Godsbane yourself. Redo Step 2, 3 and 4.

Step 6: Remember the number of Armor Lv.2s purified before an Armor Lv.3 showed up. This sets the interval at which the next High tiered piece of Armor will come.

Step 7: Keep on getting Armor Lv.3s until you get the piece you need or proceed until you got an entire set. Basically you can continue until you get everything you need.

Step 8: Done

I got 5 more pieces of lv. 3 armor today and all 5 were cloaks :|

I haven't seen a not cloak in forever.
Wow. That is pretty bad luck. I got 3 cloaks in a row before. In one run, I gotten 6 pieces of the shadow set in a row.

I tried that. Results seem to vary a lot. I don't really notice a pattern of high tier armor. I would get maybe 1 or 2 pieces of the H tier set out of 6 pieces, but its not the piece or enchantment that I want or both.

Sadly, I'm almost at my 200th Daimon run by now. :|

Whew, that's hefty. I've probably got 20-30 or so Daimon kills, and I'm sick of him. Even though I've played more hours of this game than I'd like to admit, I would still play the whole thing over again for a PC version with mod support.

Started this today, loving it so far. Bit daunting to get your bearings but it's nice to see it have so much packed in. Got a quest to go into the well in the starting town and thought since they gave it to you, it would be okay to do. Nope. Stupid lizard mans wrecked me good. =(

How far in the game is it before I can switch to a two hander class? I want my heavy weapons

Weird, I haven't seen a cloak in forever myself. Always helmets (which I hate) and chest pieces. The only low-tier lv3 piece I need for that "find all 13" quest is the Blasphemer cloak. Guess I'm not getting that Saviour Ring, haha.

My run, I got 4 bb armor lvl 3 and 2 of them was the high tier gloves with the enchantments that I needed! My arisen has her complete Oblivion set. She's one piece away from finishing her hellfire set. Not planning to make her tank anyway. My pawn has her Oblivion set for some time now and a complete Hellfire set.

I'm experimenting between Reaper's Arrow and Great Gamble on my pawn. Great Gamble has a flash animation to the attack, but it drains all her stamina. Reaper's Arrow does damage, but not as high as Great Gamble.

Anyone tried the spells with the Magick Archer like High Frigor, High Ingle and High Levin in BBI?

ZenaxPure, I'll gift your pawn some bb armor lvl 3 since you gifted me a couple. Don't really need it anymore.

That method is kind of confusing to me. Maybe it's just the way it's written. So I started a new pattern and got a high tier armor on my first item. Should I keep this pattern going until I get all the pieces I need? Or does the second item need to be the high tier one?

Yes, I agree. Its very confusing, and seems quite time consuming. I haven't tried it yet, and may not...seems like kind of a pain in the butt.

I pretty much copy/pasted it from the original source, which is here:

haha I went through BBI yesterday and hired two sorcerors with adept robes... which means all three pawns had adept robes, was pretty cool except of course they keep wandering around which is very annoying, but damn when you are all together the health regen is about as fast as anodyne low level, pretty good. Of course in the fallen city the pawns got wrecked alot but when they did put out their grand maelstroms and bolides it was a sight to behold I tells ya!!!
My assasin is becoming quite good I have been an assasin from level 50 or so all the way to 140..... with framae daggers (thanks to a gaffer for level 3 gear) she pretty much wrecks anything in several minutes, scary. just trying to get a better bow than dragons ire....
Also fought the online ur dragon by accident (forgot was online) and it was easy to survive, not so easy to do damage... I used conqueror periapts and gale harness and literally 100 kiss his tail for 8 minutes, hope it helped someone somewhere lol.

also ^above - i did see that on the dragons wiki... I think for armour it is pretty complex but weapons i think i get it, will try tonight ... basically there is a set pattern so say you wanted a sword for level 3 gear... take all your level 2 gear first and purify .... lets say B is the sword you want and everything else is A....
level 2 stuff you get - A, A, A, B
then the pattern will be preset so godsbane then...
level 2 stuff - A, A, A, then purify your level 3 item and it should be B (sword)

Got the Hellfire chest which let me finish off that set, and got the Oblivion chest as well. Only thing left I need to obtain for pure completions sake is carrion gloves/boots, and oblivion gloves.

Your collecting all 3 sets? Figured your Magick Archer would be decked out in Oblivion gear by now.
I only need the carrion veil and hellfire gloves to finish it all. Wow, had no idea I got that many carrion pieces.
The oblivion gloves took me forever to get. So many runs that I got both 50% boost buff applied to you and restore stamina on kill gloves. Only really wanted the restore stamina one.

Well, I missed GP of gen 423 for Ur by a few minutes. Brought 900 Blast Arrows for Ur Dragon only to find out its gen 424 with full hp. :(

Man, the only rare gloves I've ever seen were the Hellfire ones and it was early on before I understood how the loot system worked (specifically I could godsbane myself and get what I wanted). It was only recently I actually started getting gloves in general honestly. As for gear, I tend to actually wear the trophy armor on my Magick Archer set since it's over 100 magic assuming you have the augments for magic increases. But, I switch to assault boots when I'm fighting a boss I can climb.

That said, I've actually been thinking about changing to Oblivion stuff because Daimon can still one shot me if I'm not careful, so, the extra defenses might be worth it.

I should really try to play other games now haha.

That's one of the reasons I've been playing less lately haha. Though I did a pretty long session yesterday.

Could always just start another character. I'm actually kinda glad I did because it's shown me I've become soft lol. Went into Everfall for the first time when you reach Gran Soren and died to a group of skeletons. I was so used to just being so powerful I didn't bother grabbing healing items or a mage so I had no way to recover.

Made me remember that for the majority of time you play the game you really have to prepare before you go out adventurin' or you're fucked.

You can reach that area in Fortress of Remembrance without the zombie. With the zombie, no need for instant reset.

Eh? Really? How? By clinging to the Sirens? Even the inventor of that technique claims that yes, you do need the huge zombies to complete the feat--it's just too high for the normal super jump.

Well, the Sirens will not be spawned there post Daimon anymore, so if you haven't grabbed that one pesky Macabre Statue by then, then you have to wait for NG+.

Although it's a moot point since you can literally collect the statues all over again in NG+ and it still adds up to total, hahaha.

You can get it post-Daimon but it's a super bitch and I don't think was meant to be done.

You have to kill all enemies but 1 Strigoi and get it to follow you to the bridge, only it disappears once it passes the brick on the ground that you can pick up; so you have to grab it before that point -- and when you're holding onto it can pass the brick but only about another 15ft or so -- you have to get as high a possible and as close as possible without it disappearing; let go (if it disappears you will fall uncontrollably) and use a staff to levitate close enough to grab the ledge.

I spent about 2hrs trying before I got that damned thing.

Oh wait, it is too high? Well damn. Oh well, already got more than 30 statues from previous playthroughs. I never tried grabbing a harpy or siren there.

On Hard mode? On Normal it's less dangerous than what the game has you think.

Nah just on normal. Obviously there is a point where it doesn't matter anymore, but, the game lets you do whatever you want nearly from the start and you can get into a lot of trouble for it. The very first quest I ever took in Gran Soren was the one where you escort the dude to the wall (that leads to the final area of the game). I was not prepared my first time for that all, since, taking that path and staying on the road guarantees you run into 2 chimeras and 2 ogres (one of which has face armor), which is really a lot to take in at the start of the game (especially when you don't fully understand the mechanics). I did not make it there on my first try.

Found this little neat thing about Magick Archers. They got a super jump.
Jump - double jump - Sunflare - Instant Reset - Sunflare

He doesn't even instant reset out of the lantern animation, AMATEUR.

Really though, super jumping is cool. When Banana first mentioned it in the thread I immediately used it to jump from the start of BBI up to Daimon's door. Obviously you can't get back in, but, it was still neat.
