Just beat it myself. I used all of my curatives along with 3 or 4 wakestones.
Before that encounter, what was the best tactic to beat those dark bandits(?). Only encountered a group once so far but from what I could see, they're only susceptible to magic?
I used implicate and hundred kisses a lot, combined with pentad shot, mighty bend and fracture dart arrows. Rolling with a Sorcerer, Mage and Ranger and had no real problems with those guys. But that dragon... holy shit.
Any recommended level before starting Bitterblack? I'm level 51 from a newgame+ and am wondering how much more of the game I want to do again before checking out the new stuff. From some comments here it get's pretty crazy.
I just switched from Sorc to Magick Archer. It's flippin awesome. It's like when you switch weapons in Monster Hunter and fall in love with the game all over again.
Escorted Sir Bernne to the shadow fort (got this quest from the bulletin board right when I showed up at the big city).
Now, unless I'm mistaken, it doesn't really explain to you just how dangerous this quest is. It took me a long time and I died a bunch, it took a lot of doing to get around the more dangerous beasties. I departed at level 11 or so. By the time I finished I'm level 16.
quest spoiler
That said, now that I've done it, the reward was "Gryphic Victory". It's a two handed sword with 515 strength rating. Yeah. You heard me. It's nearly twice as good as my old two hander.
I would trek to the destination for the escort quest I was going to do next, set up a port crystal then ferrystone back to wherever the quest started then ferrystone to the port crystal.
Loaded up my old save. Said I got all the goodies including the unlimited ferry stone, yet I don't see it anywhere. Is this because I'm in a new game + near the start?

Great! Thanks.. but now another dumb question. I can't remember since it's been so long, but I can't use the ferry stones till a certain point in the story correct? It's not allowing me to in this early new game.

Right now I'm in the Dark Risen content and one of my party members went down FAST! Problem is I don't see a portal anywhere to get them back. Am I boned or what?

I am playing the digital version. The loading is a bit faster, but it's pretty much the same otherwise. The performance is especially good in the new area, though.
And I like Snakebite. Mad stagger and knockdown so hell yes I'd use it on larger mobs if it worked the way it does normally. I actually don't use Hundred Kisses that much despite its uber-cheese factor. Same with Invisibility. It's too easy. XD
Oh yeah, did Autonomy get nerfed? Heard two different stories on that one. Someone said it got gimped and someone else said it's exactly the same.
Yea.. hundred kisses I use so I have a "Fuckfuckfuckfuck" option with my daggers out ... but invis and even Gale Harness are incredibly OP if you walk around with 5 or 6 Vims in your pocket. It's ridic. And if snakebite did .. say.. multiplier * monster size for the poison damage (larger they get, more DOT from the poison but less stagger as you go up the monster size scale) I would use it all the time... as it stands it is a fun ability if you spec for poison dmg (which is a totally legit option if you go full assassin) but other than that? it's just not nearly as effective as many other options in the dagger tree.
And Autonomy seems ... to me at least... to be about the same. If anything sliiiiiiightly weaker. But I offset with clout and bloodlust and some others interchanging so i haven't really noticed.
At the encampment outside of Cassardis. Talk to the pawn guy by the riftstone.
That's nothing. Wait till you get to the room with
3 warg bosses, 3 sorcerers casting high level magick including High Seism and High Maelstrom and a harpy. There's also an Elder Ogre standing there who probably doesn't move until you hit him although I haven't tried that yet. Watch as your pawns die in 10 seconds and as you get rocked by stuff that's not even on screen. Also Seism and Maelstrom always kill me in one hit. Good luck.
Anyone know if there's a place where you can buy a lot of empty flasks in BB Isle?
The NecroDragon and The Warg room were both tough .. for sure... but i have to ask - Am i the only person who plays with the life bars off? It's turned on for my pawns so i can manage where I am when they are close to dead for revivals and such but other than that I have every HUD element turned off (memorized the skills and my favorite locations for them ages ago) ....
There is nothing like wailing on a fucking Ogre ... getting punched... kicked... eaten ... healing up, continuing the fight, counter counter counter... oh god Vimes is dead oh SHIT that was last kingswarish I think i might need to run awa - + 34000 XP - ..... Yiiiiissssssss.

Getting drawn back in. I'm returning to my "mastered" classes of Magick Archer and Warrior (pawn) since the enemies are a bit harder in BBI. I'm tempted to switch classes to level them up, but screw that, haha.
I'm looking forward to fighting more of the stronger, upgraded ogres.
I had some epic half hour long battles with ogres when I was a level 13 or 14. So much tension at the end when the became enraged and could kill me in one or two hits
After taking too long creating my character, running a few quests around town, getting taken once by the Brine... had to call it a night.
I can't be the only one who wishes for a lock-on option in battle? Goblins weren't really a problem, but the wolves wouldn't stand still. Minor bother is really all it is, I will quickly adjust to not having it.
They level up too if their owners are actively playing, too. Sometimes I lose one, go back to the rift to get it and it's much higher than when I first got it.
So when you max out one vocation is it a good idea to switch to another right away?
I switched from fighter to warrior before finishing fighter, but I'm almost done with warrior was thinking right after to go into strider or mystic archer. Thoughts? Just hit level 30 by the way, originally switch vocations around level 15?
Also holy shit that dragon by the shadow fort doesn't screw around. Took me like 10 Archs of Deliverance to down him.

Your current vocation affects what stats go up upon leveling, and increases diminish after level 100. But by then you could probably murderize anything outside of the
Ur-Dragon
and DLC, so I wouldn't worry too much. Still, look up a wiki if you want to be sure.
Yes. Though remember, you're getting that version of the character at that particular time. As in the pawn you got from the lobby was at a specific level at that time, but you can check up on them later and see that they've gotten much stronger.

Awesome thanks, also what affects vocation level up? Does that level through skill use or XP gain? Also say im level 200 could i still rank up vocations i never used?
Just figured this out but for those who don't know, if you see a pawn that has an icon with a red cross over it, that means the owner is playing the original DD. If you see two arrows(?), the owner has DA.

This you'll have to research into or hope someone else answers, but I'm under the impression vocations follow some other set of points perhaps, or track EXP but are distinct from levels as I switch my main character and pawn at the same time (Strider and Fighter), and they ALWAYS level vocations up at the same time, and I've been inconsistent about using Strider abilities, and even if I wasn't I can't possibly see my pawn matching me THAT CLOSELY.
OK 3 hours after i've started the island i have to say that this isn't something for LV 50 like capcom said.
My arisen is Lv 80 and some of the stuff in there would have one shotted me if i didn't have a Very good gear...
My carelessness has been softenned by the wakestones i had on me ... and i don't even want to talk about
"death" ..i mean WTF I'm looking forward to see him dead. Nice music when death appear BTW
I'm using the digital version of the game and the loading are much much better , there is still a light dip in performance but i swear this run better than in my DD Disc copy.
The ps3 framerate feels a lot better than the demo's so far so good Imo. I couldn't stand it to the point that I didn't get the original DD but I'm loving it now. Im afraid to install HD textures...

Beat it a little while ago, it was good but the bosses take waaaaaaay too long to die -- especially the GINORMOUS GoreCyclopes.
Now, those motherfuckers are the stupidest fucking things I have ever seen in a fucking game; how are you supposed to do anything against something 50x your size, 2x faster than you, hits take off 1/4-3/4 of your health, and every fucking step it takes staggers you until the next stomp or club bash. I honestly don't understand how a melee/magic class can deal with them: can't hit them because you're constantly stagger-locked; can't cast anything because it moves at mach2, wildly swing at you all the time. The only consistent way I've found to kill them is to get high enough where they can't hit you and plink away with arrows for 30min... that's incredibly fun...
That seems to be the devs' way of making things "difficult": throw you in a relatively small, dark room, with giant boss(es) that have 1million HP, do insane damage, and take more damage than the final boss of the game 5x over.
I'm at the highest level, I have most of the best gear... yet I feel like I'm slapping everything with big, floppy donkey dicks.
There's a sword, Cursed Bite, that when at lvl3, does over 1100dmg. I was lucky and got two of them; I'm an Assassin and I do over 2000dmg, and my Fighter pawn does over 2300 with it. Even with that weapon and being at lvl200, it still takes ages to kill the big guys.
necro dragon. It's obvious where you need to hit him, but managing your party and whittling him down is the fun part.
9 health bars, every restorative at my disposal and about 40 minutes later he fell. Can't believe I made it through that one beings my pawns were pretty much useless and got rocked the entire time. This shit is getting nuts.
NecroDragon is tougher than The Dragon. And yeah... pawns are pretty worthless in Bitterblack. A group of 4 lvl200 characters and we still get worked over. I've done more reviving in the 12hrs of Dark Arisen than the whole of Dragon's Dogma, which I completed ~15 times.
-edit-
BTW, about Death:
It seems the best way to kill him is in one of the very last areas of Bitterblack; it has a bunch of Holy Braziers that deal massive damage to him (it?). Trick is, you have to lure Death close to them and then light them, and the Holy effect only lasts for a certain amount of time. I got him down to about half health by doing that.
