Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

And for the civil among us, talked to my friend about the 360 version just now. Initially he didn't install it and he backs up what was said by Keza at IGN. During loads the game takes hits and the pop-in is bad. He installed and those issues disappeared. The framerate is consistent with the demo, and so is the tearing. He mentioned something odd about that install, like it didn't seem like it was installing, but eventually did and now runs fine from the HD.

.

That's total crap. What if you don't have a HDD?

Amazon is still offering the 10 dollars off a future purchase, btw.

Buy it on the PS3 if you have one. If not, I guess decide if you can live with it. My friend would have returned it if it played that way when installed. It was that bad.

Sure thing big man, you can stop crying about the framerate since you're not even buying the game.

Playing the game is the only requirement to talking about it. Or are we excluding anyone that rents/borrows games from all GAF discussion threads now? I appreciate the compliment about my size. I've been lifting.

Picking up my copy in about an hour and still not 100% sure I should stay with my 360 preorder or switch to PS3.

If you're not installing it, go PS3.

For those with questions about the 360 install. There is a particular longname file in the game that either;
1 Confuses the 360
2 Is there on purpose as copy protection(pirates were reporting a ton of problems getting it working on hacked systems)

So it does appear to just sit but it will install.

As for people reporting no FPS drop in the PS3 version. What PS3? This would not be the first time that the wild and different skews of a box directly impact the game. There is most definantly something occurring that REALLY crops up its head in games that push these systems. That makes sense too. A game with a great amount of overhead may not show these issues but frankly DD is pushing the systems hard and frankly isn't that optimized. It stands to reason that any little issues become far easier to identify when one of the systems is being pushed around like a geek on a street corner.

We had drops to the teens or so slow it appeared to be in slow motion and directly impacted aiming and movement on a 60gig.

Than PS3. 360 if you can instal.
And as I have said since the moment I started playing this, go where your friends list will return the greatest investment and where the controller is your favorite.

The game is somewhat of a technical mess and isn't perfect on either.

I haven't experienced severe drop yet, since I just started, but it drops here and there around town, I have a fat 40gig

This is good to know. Our drops were somewhat less when we started and were in the first encampment and the first outpost. When we had a good couple hours on the game and started some of the early/middle quests thats when it began to get worse. Especially in a particular part of a quest that involved escorting some people and items through a valley with both flying and on the ground enemies.

Also the change of settings to 720p does indeed minimize the tearing. As if by MAGIC:)

Well, I am installing so that's some good news.

Wow, I just watched that GameTrailers review, and the game looks fantastic.

Does anyone know if you can turn off the blood/gore in the options?

The game has a ton of options you can turn on/off regarding UI and other bits, so I think there was a blood option too. Can't guarantee it 100% though.

Can anyone with the ps3 version upload a photo through USB? I wonder if the image compression will look just as bad as the facebook uploads.

I do think it's entirely possible that my tolerance of low framerate over tearing is because of being conditioned by some terrible engines this gen, but I'm still stuck with that conditioning. That's where my tolerances lie and I like to consider that before making purchases.

I don't need or expect objectivity, I just like to sort of get a consensus from folks who have the game. I don't know why we're discussing the validity of discussing this :p If I didn't value GAFer opinions, I wouldn't be here.

Sorry if this comes across as rude.

Having a hard time deciding what characters to make. I might just create some Belmonts.

I tried to make Michael Fassbender but failed miserably. Although I might give that one another go some day soon.

I'm not sure if I should go mage with a beefy pawn to support me or the other way around.

Decisions, decisions...

For Arisen go with your favorite class to PLAY and augment your party with the other styles.
Just know your helpers are not always as helpful or as fast to heal etc as you would like.

Not at all thats why you ask. And thats why some of us tell what we have seen. It makes perfect sense.

Im very torn between Strider and Mage.

I think I'll go with Strider because Im concerned the Mage's ability will be a bit gimped in underground areas.

Still though....those tornadoes.

Anybody who has played it have a good pros and cons of the two classes when pit against each other?

We should probably post the possible issues with both versions in the OP. That question has now popped up every single page well since page 2 or something I think. Can we maybe post something to the OP about the two versions?

Then if someone doesn't read the top of the page or the previous pages we can just link them back to the OP?

Waiting for the DF analysis or something similar on the actual release.

You have the 360 one right karak? Cutscenes and stuff run pretty well?

Lets leave the subjective console war stuff out of the OP. No one here is qualified to make any objective observations about the two versions. About all we know is 360 does not v-sync and the PS3 does. Anything beyond that is just anecdotal.

Well i also think a few people have confirmed that the 360 version runs like dogshit unless you install it. That's definitely worth noting if it's true.

Silly question, but does the disc still spin when installed? (360). It was oddly an issue with a few games. Don't want that happening for a long game.

Again there is no way to measure "dogshit" so people could be exaggerating or just making crap up. 99% of buyers are not torn about what to buy so dedicating 70% of the OT to the talk is just making a lot of noise. Save the console war versus stuff for the DF thread.

Correct. I also have put over 14 hours into the PS3 version and beat the 360 version and played them side by side and compared the 360 versions installed and not installed. But I guess we will wait for a website. So that we can then argue with the websites conclusions as well:)

I think that has something to do with the new way the discs are printed (the removal of about a gigs worth of security). I've noticed all my new 360 games spin for a good couple of minutes while I'm in the game.

Yeah, newer discs spin longer, but some games act weirder and don't stop at all (SoulCalV). Just curious.

God's had his chance.
I wonder what ps3s people are playing on when they talk about the framerate being the same as the demo in the same breath as it dipping into the teens.

No way did my ps3 chug even near that hard while I was playing. I understand being all hardcore about your experience cause we're all such sticklers for quality here but fuckin seriously??

Whatevs i suppose... strokes and folks ... for everything this game offers some people seem to be trying to find stuff to chuff about - I suppose if your eyes are really that sensitive and caring we can always cross our fingers for a PC version...

I don't suppose that has been mentioned anywhere in the media for this game? A schedule for a PC release? if any...

Any further info on these 100 DLC fetch-quests would be great.

Hopefully they aren't actually mostly fetch quests and are Boss fights or something.

You bought both versions?

I bought the 360 version and our local currently defunct game store owner has 3 PS3's and 3 xbox's at his shop in his backroom for friends and for people hedging on a game purchase. So I got to beat the 360 version and during that time and after we took turns on the PS3 version whenever I stopped by. Which was a great deal because for a good amount of the time my gaming tv is being used so I could drive less than 2 blocks or walk to his place:) The systems are sort of against a wall so it was nice to be able to play them side by side.
