Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Heh, I've gone through the game so far thinking I couldn't use dagger skills as a Strider if I have a bow, but its R1 for dagger skills, not L1.

I blame it on not being familiar with the 360 controller.

The first thing I did was change the layout of my secondary weapon. Aiming my bow with LB eventually just let me play with pain because I was not used to holding it for a very long time. LT is much better.

It's pretty useful too. I switched from Magick Archer to Sorcerer to grab some augments and try it out, and before switching I grabbed some higher level spells I wouldn't have been able to get right way as a Sorcerer, so now I'm not super weak.

Still pretty weak though, heh.

Just so I understand this correct, you can level up one vocation and then switch to another that is level 1 and level that up. Then, when you switch back to your original, it's still the level you left it?

That's what I thought, but I just wanted to make sure.

Yeah its actually pretty braindead easy to do if you have a strider with the ensare skill. Kill off the bandit striders, then use ensare on the sword guy all day while you and your pawns wail on the bandit fighter. He has basically no way of fighting back. And progress SLOWLY...
I tried doing this and still couldn't do it - the sword guy was moving constantly so I could rarely ensnare him. I also couldn't seem to aggro only one of them, so my team was overwhelmed with the other ~3 bandits anyway.

Fuck. I want to dump another 8 hours into this game after work tonight. This game has some frustrating shit in it, but it's still damn fun overall. I can't wait to unlock assassin tonight and go fuck some shit up at night.

Point investments are permanent. You can swap all you want and won't lose any progress.

Sounds like a patch which enables V-Sync but as a cost screws up the framerate. Thanks but not thanks.

There was a 2mb launch day patch but it didn't do anything like this. There was still plenty of tearing.

I hope they didn't cave to tearing complaints it if fucks performance :( I'll take no v-synch over stuttering framerate.

The quest was difficult but I managed to do it at an early level, before I even reached Gran Soren. I had a mage constantly healing, and I just ran from the bandits in full armor, took my time in the fog to fight the wolves, plus one of the pawns with me knew the way.

I just kept saving as I went. You have to kinda spread out the bandits (i'm a fighter) and it helps if you have another fighter to share provoking people. Me, a pawn named Maxon (fighter), a co-workers pawn (mage), and my main Michelle (strider) took them out just fine, right around level 9-10.

Its really just like Dark/Demon's where you can take down enemies no matter the level, if you plan.

Also I dunno who could think the animations were ugly. Some textures...maybe, but overall the game doesnt look bad.

EDIT: Stood my ground through the
Dripcave
quest as well with the
lizard
men. Caught me by surprise since I just jumped right in there, but after having combined some potent healing stuff, it wasnt that bad. Both quests can be done early on.

Can you get your pawns to use special arrows?

Has anyone tried the Adaro escort quest yet? Wherever this Shadow Fort is, it's in some scary unknown region and while trying to get to there I might have taken a path I shouldn't have. I got ambushed by
THE DRAGON
.

Maybe I should try another quest first.

There's zero tearing, I'm playing it right now
It drops consistently though, as consistently as it used to tear before

I don't know how I feel about it, maybe an option to enable/disable vsync would have been better :/

Just loaded the game and got no new patch here yet. Waiting to see if it's rolling out across servers.

Why did I go down that well >_> My party could barely handle the monsters down there :/.

Cut off their tails. I thought it was hard as shit too until I started cutting off their tails. Once they've been hacked off those things are pretty much harmless.

This game looks pretty awesome.

I had heard the name before but didn't follow it at all, in fact, I hadn't read or seen anything about it up until today when someone linked a video in another thread. I can't buy it now as I'm still entangled in Diablo III's web (with work I only have a limited amount of time to play games) but if I was to wait a month or a few weeks (and hopefully jump on a sale price) would that have any drawbacks with this weird hybrid multiplayer pawn system? I assume there are NPC pawns of every level even if other players don't have appropriate level characters I can hire. Honestly I'm not 100% sure how it works as I've only gleamed knowledge from this thread and about 15 minutes of a youtube stream.

Also does the PS3 version work alright or are there any crippling problems with it that I should wait to have patched?

Alright. I'll need to get my main pawn to handle the tails and probably get a second warrior.

I wouldn't worry about the multiplayer elements just a month or two down the line. I could see people running into problems like ayear or two from now, though. Even then it's not crucial, it's just that the pawn system actually works out pretty well.

PS3 version has been fine for me. The game generally isn't going to run well, but for the most part it's been acceptable.

Not true.

I did it with myself and three pawns at level 8.

ya I did it at either 8 or 9 as well. I would jsut assume that perhaps it is balanced for a very specific Pawn set perhaps. But man I really did well when I beat it. I think I got lucky and also really studied pawns versus myself and the other pawns weaknesses. A bit harder on the second playthrough. I also lost a couple hours due to the game freezing. So far the 360 version has not done this so I am sticking with that. Sadly that means that the work PS3 version won't be getting any love and I won't be getting any DD during lunch and breaks fuck!

So guys. What party do you use? Currently thinking about going Warrior, Mage and Sorcerer with my Magic Archer mainly because of the fact that the Sorcerer is the one who has damage spells, or should I use two warriors?

Was going to play but might wait a bit now to see how this patch thing develops. It's just that you have to be online to get pawns so I might have no choice but to take the patch.

Anyone have the quest to find the that thing for a guy in the castle town and you have to search the 2 bandit camps? I've searched the whole damn area and can't find it. :/

I keep being impressed with the little things in this game. Lots of "hardcore" stuff in here that I didn't notice until a little bit ago. Namely, food that you gather will rot if not used. Picked up some fish and some meat from some beasts and after a day or so it is now rotten. Also getting wet not only drains your stamina faster, as you are weighed down by wet clothes, but mages cannot cast fire magic when wet, not to mention your lantern will go out if you're in water. And the dread when the sun begins setting and you're a long way from a town or outpost. My god, the dread!

I also like the little touches like when you're out of stamina and bent over breathing heavily, your pawn will come up to you and touch your back and ask if you're okay or tell you to take it easy.

Little things, but I like them. Gives the game a very unique feel. Also forms a pretty cool bond with your main pawn that I didn't think would be there. I figured they'd just be a pack mule or something, but I find myself genuinely caring about my pawn.

PS3 works fine. I did have it crash 3 or 4 times and lost a savegame with a couple hours due to corruption. From what I understand the PS3 does crash very occasionally but not enough to I guess really worry about unless you have the choice. It is a great game. Just a technical disaster at times though:(

Where can I change Vocation? I've read that once I reach the Encampment and am lv 10 I can change Vocation at the Innkeeper? Am I missing something? I don't see that option and I'm lv 12.

The innkeeper at the next town after you escort the hydra head.

You'll be heading to
Gran Soren
after the Encampment if you follow the story.

I'm Strider/Knight/Strider/Mage right now. I was rolling 2 mages before but it was kind of overkill, seemed like the second would start casting a spell after the other one already did which just wasted time. The double strider action really helped on the witchwood quest.

I want to be a magic archer but didn't think I'd be able to already have the chance to change already, I want to be Strider for a bit longer before I actually do that. For you, that sounds like a good set. I'd just try and make sure you pick a good defensive based mage.

On the way to the camp near the starting area I saved a guy from a bandit attack and he told me the exact location.

What happens when a pawn dies? Is it permanent? I mean I've saved mine a few times but I'm curious what happens if I can't get to them.

I'm sorry, I was wrong. It's only the tutorial part vsynced.
I know, it doesn't make any sense...

I didn't use any of the techniques you guys mentioned. I just sat back, fired normal arrows until they got close to me then ran to the other side, reviving my pawns when they crapped out.

Anyway, I'm a magick archer now and it's way more awesome.

Staff + Magic Bow >>>>>>>>

My team: me, Warrior(main)/Warrior/Sorcerer

I want to replace my side pawn Warrior with a Mystic Knight when I find one.

I think they go back to the rift. You can just summon your main one back, but the other 2 need to be rehired. So basically, if you spend a lot of rift crystals on a high level pawn and lose them in a fight, you would need to spend that AGAIN for them to rejoin.

Atleast that's what I believe it meant in the manual.

Well, my team consisted of the first pawn you get (Rook) and a lvl 9 strider, and my main pawn who is a fighter, and i just used arrows to pick the first guy off the top of the hill, got to the top, Rook gives me fire buff, used three fold shot to take out everyone else as quickly as possible while watching my stamina bar to make sure it didn't drop below half so id have the ability to either run away from the sword guy or use ensnare to knock him down so i could run away and keep whittling his buddies down. It also gave me time just enough to revive a pawn or two that gets taken down. Took me about 2 tries after coming up with this tactic to succeed. It failed the first time because Rook got knocked off of the cliff smack dab in the middle of those lizard men. Also got the mind to actually switch him out for a good mage with wider set of skills than the two he has after this fight.

Not sure if its been mentioned but does it include a code for the RE6 demo or do you need the disc to download it like you need the Splinter Cell disc for the GR beta?

Ugh I saw this guy but couldn't save him in time. Guess I'll never finish it? How annoying. Where did it end up being?
You can still finish it even if you don't save him, I believe.

To get to the bandit camp,
take the path like you're headed to the Witchwood, after you crest the hill, the road forks left and right; left to the Witchwood and right. Take the right path until you see some castle ruins.

Without fanboying it up, which version (PS3 or 360) runs smoother and looks better? I just saw a video for the game, and had no idea it was the type of game it was, definitely intrigued.

Thanks. Funnily enough whenever I enter the rift all the pawns I see are around my level and cost nothing. So far I haven't payed for a pawn.

Yeah, same here. I have like 21,000 rift crystals...I don't want to higher a pawn that's nearly level 30 while I'm 12, seems cheap.

Can't speak for the PS3 version, but I've heard it has low framerate. I have the 360 version and it looks good and plays very smooth. I haven't had a framerate issue yet. There is some screen tearing, but nothing that's bothered me very much.

Thanks I'll save this.

EDIT: Damn now this NPC wants me to give him 30k gold (all I have) to help him move (and finish this quest I assume). I need to buy a guide for this game or something.
