Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

I do wish the localization team had put down, say, over for over instead of omitting the V in favor of some faux ye olde GRRMglish.

Man, I feel like I'm rushing through the game. I'm 17 hours in and I feel like there's not that many quests left in the main story.

All the sidequests are chump change though, but I guess I'll just go exploring. You do get pretty good amounts of XP for killing monsters, plus I might run into some bosses.

This game is good. It is oh so good good good. It is Dark Souls minus the unforgiving nastiness, it is DMC in a watered-down (but still awesome) Skyrim, and it is everything people have been saying. When night falls, you will be nervous.

Combat might be the best in an RPG ever. The Prologue kind of sucks, because you have no attachment to characters and don't know what you're doing. And the textures look butt. Don't worry: it gets better.

The lighting is awesome. The animations are really good. The enemies so far are smart and fun to fight. This game is really addicting. Can't wait to play more.

One fun thing: I didn't even make a pawn and just took Rook out for a while to explore and fight wolves/bandits. This game lets you do whatever you want. Fighting with two-people only is badass btw.

Youngest voice I've heard is Female Voice 6.

Which seems to be quite common as well, with all the tiny girl-child pawns running around. :/

Yeah, that's one that sounds like a robot ...like it's obviously a adult's voice just altered in post

Sigh, maybe I'll have to go for a Damian Wayne type instead

Have you been in the first dungeon yet? Because there are several fights that are obtuse in their difficulty.

I love the game though. I'm coming to grips with the idea that the bigger fights hinge on actual boss mechanics (like take out the eye, etc) instead of just burning down the HP. It's a nice change of pace for the genre even if my brain is slow to catch up with it.

Ya it is amazing. Truly. Agree with everything you just said. I also adventured with Rook far longer than I had to.

Holy crap, a sword you get from a
Gran Soren board
escort quest reward sells for 132k, and I'm not a Fighter so I wonder if I should sell it...

I also found some Golden Stilettos worth 12k as well.

I wouldn't have written it if I hadn't. And since I have steered people to both platforms for various reason its not just wishing. We did a side by side along the first encampment walking from the small broken down wagon towards a group of rocks.
Played them side by side both on at the same time.. And that was also in the youtube previews. In fact the video was talked about here, maybe in the demo thread with one of the hundreds of videos? BUt I posted because I had noticed, and other posters had asked me to run them side by side to compare various things. At the time I might have been the only one able to do that posting at the time. But the video just sort of backed that up. But you are right its barely noticeable as I stated in the post.
The blurriness seemed to be on both versions as reported here by others too(and me already more than once but the first time on page 17) and thats good you mention and can respond when people ask just like many of us are doing. I try to get as much data in as possible about what I see, you can certainly run them side by side and post comparisons as well. Its not like I am the only one seeing this stuff or saying that both versions have their issues.

Fair enough on the foliage. The IQ definitely seems worse on 360 though, PS3 looks sharper. Interestingly enough, the same seems to be the case in the recent Max Payne 3.

Will reserve final judgement and purchase decision till the DF face off.

Found a pretty awesome place behind a waterfall called the Watergod's Altar.

Man...fought some interesting mobs with something fantastic at the end of it.

Also...loot appears to be random when you open chests. it was different the second time I opened a chest after getting wiped by a beastie.

I just realized that by screwing up that trailing mission Madeline is never going to open up her shop.

Oh well, next playthrough. I'm really getting annoyed that there's no upgrade for the spellbow in the stores yet though. I'm pretty far in too.

I think I'm Level 18 and I'm still destroyed by those damn armored bandits near the ruins.

Bandits are still pretty powerful when you're level 30. Those archers man, they will kill you out of nowhere. Then again, right now I'm a squishy Sorcerer. I had a little more defense as a Magick Archer.

I had a pretty crazy moment while getting back to the capital. I went way out in the middle of nowhere to fight some bandits, and along the way I lost both of my summoned pawns leaving just me and my own. I was low on healing items and had to get all the way back - and night was coming.

So, I book it back to the city, fight off some wolves, and was thankful I didn't run into anything bigger - then I run into this dude who's waiting near the walls of the capital. He's a super god damn fast and kept using fireworks on me to stun me. I was pretty much out of stamina the whole fight trying to keep up with him and my pawn barely got a hit because he was too slow.

Beat that guy, then ran towards the gate and... all of a sudden there's a group of god damn mages! I was just like "WTF?" and me and my pawn proceeded to do glorious on-the-verge-of-death battling. I took a fireball to the face, but luckily didn't die and with 125 hp left finally made it up to the gate.

What a fucking rush. And that was all right outside the capital city, the "safest" spot in the realm.

How would you know if a quest is time limited or would expire?

At least mine brought 4500+ rc for whoring herself.
I rarely get much RC. I assume female pawns have an advantage since it's mostly guys playing this and rating based on appearance. My pawn is a guy.

My pawn is a dude as well and he's been pulling in a lot of RC. His average rating is 4 / 5 / 5 for each category at the moment. I made him a straight up bad ass tank and set him to stick close to me at all times and not wander off, so he's obviously been keeping other people besides me alive too.

I have ~4,500RC thanks to the pawn stuff. Least it's something better than the rotten food people keep giving me.

Here's my character, main pawn to the right, and an awesome hired sorceror named Gandalf to my left. I can't believe some of the pawns around this level(17) still have no skills or augments set.

If you have the 360 version you may want to check the color settings in the 360 control panel in the system settings. Auto sense doesn't work all the time and ends up defaulting to RGB. The only reason I know that is my own brother called and couldn't figure out what was up with his picture on DD. We switched it to the high-def setting and it completely changed the pic. Pretty much night and day difference. Found a good number of people here who had done the same thing.

I don't see much difference between them myself. But thats just 1 persons opinion. I would say that mine looks the same as the pics in the lens of truth website side by side for the demo they posted a bit ago. Which shows sharpness is pretty much identical. Don't know what color setting they had on their 360. I usually find that my games look pretty much or act pretty much as lens of truth shows most of the time if my settings are right.

I've had my pawn bring in a lot of RC before, it's great. I think the worst group I had was when I replaced Rook, I made a group and didn't realize until I little later on when all members had the exact same voice. Yeah...that was pretty terrible. Funny, but terrible. So I make sure I mix em up a bit better now.

Been using ranger (me), pawn (fighter), warrior, mage combo.

How is it playing with two 2 mage/sorcerer on the team?

My pawn never gets used. Probably because she's fat and kinda ugly.

I thought the 360 version looked sharper than the ps3's in the demo. Particularly when you get up close to the characters.

Finally decided to explore a bit today after bouncing back and forth between the Encampment and Grand Saren..

I ended up in some dark woods, as I passed what looked like the shed from Evil Dead. I was happy when I saw the light of the Abbey, only to be surprised when all the gravestones started to spout out undead :D I ran into that abbey like there was no tomorrow!

Here's my characters (Black Widow and Hawkeye):

Lens of truth did a side by side of the demo. They were pretty much identical and I don't think that changed. However perhaps something else did. Because I know that I have set my brothers 360 color settings in the dashboard but when he complained about it being blurry his was outputting at RGB for sure. So we had to change it to the high-def movie setting. Weirdness but that was the fix and it really brought out the detail. Another poster informed me of this and I remembered another game that I had gone into that setting for. I can only assume that by increasing the accuracy of the color the definition gets cleaned up. Again just a guess. Those settings have been up for debate for a long time.

2 mages is alright, 1 mage and 1 sorcerer is really good(what I have now), 2 sorcerers would be pretty nuts. I would always have a mage for healing, I'm pretty sure sorcerers are pure offense.

I do that now - I play a strider, my pawn is a fighter (and tank) and I have a mage and a wizard. One of them casts all of the hard hitting spells while the other one is equipped with support stuff, like weapon enchantments, healing, removing status effects and so on. I find it works extremely well. The pawn I'm using for support also has that fire wall spell too so they can drop a giant ass wall of fire on shit to help out with DPS.

Right now I'm using: Sorcerer (me), Warrior (pawn), Fighter, Mage. Works pretty well.

Usually I use: Magick Archer (me), Fighter (pawn), Warrior, Mage. I really like this set-up. My Fighter pawn can do a lot of tanking and warriors are really good for crowd control, so they hold the front line pretty well. The mage is usually buffing and healing, and then providing some extra support. I'm able to be an awesome utility, I can keep large groups pinned down with hails of arrows, focus on elemental damage (you can tell what element spellbow skills are using by the color of the circle, for instance sixfold bolt is ice and hunter bolt is lightning I'm pretty sure), handle myself if any enemies break through to the back line, or I can just run into the fray and light shit on fire with sunflare.

Just thinking about this game is fun.

When i saw the first gameplay trailer of this game, i posted that i think it would be shallow, it would have low production qualities and it would be a bad copy of Demon Souls. Yesterday i tried the demo for the first time after a friend of mine told me to. I am so happy that i was wrong, game looks good, plays good, will be definetely getting this ASAP.

Is it just me or does anyone find this game extremely difficult at times? Not just fighting big beasts but almost anywhere I go I get jumped and slaughtered. I can take on trolls and wolves at the moment but bandits are a stretch as are anything else. Currently level 14. I really like this game so far but I'm finding it difficult to complete anything due to everything overpowering me right now.

Found a decent way to earn money early on. Recommended at least level 10-12 with a full party. After the Encampment, head west to
Vestad Hills near the Eradication Site
. There are like 12-18
Saurians/Lizard Men
you can fight there and you can sever their tails. Each tail sells for like 736G each. They also drop
scales
some times too. Their materials can also be used to upgrade weapons and armor. Watch out for the
Chimera
in the area.

I'm level 17 and haven't even seen trolls in the wild. You can gain a lot of levels just doing quests around the first town, I haven't actually explored around Gran Soren at all yet.

I've died once to the bandits near Witchwood(at level 4), and the only other time I've died so far was at level 14 via a misjudged distance jump while running around rooftops that ended up with me faceplanting concrete. Bandits seem pretty hard but as a strider I've been able to hang back and knock them down with Full Bend, which is an amazingly useful skill.

Does anyone know if the Well Equipped achievement/trophy requires you to have that many in your inventory/storage all at once or if the game will keep track of the items you've had even if you sell them? Just was curious as I've been holding onto everything just in case.

It says "obtained 350 total", so it should be accumulative the way it's phrased.

I'll have to try doing some more quests within the first town I suppose. There doesn't seem to be markers of where to go for many quests. However, many of them give you a location to search. I have a love/hate relationship with this. I like the fact it encourages me to explore, then again if there's nothing else to do I just want to find what I need to find and get it done. I've entered 2 dungeons/caves/mines (whatever they were) and I can't get past certain points because I just get overpowered.
