One of the best pics. Good job!

anyone else get attached to someone else's pawn?

Whoever made this Guts pawn is a boss.

Dude saved my ass all the time.

Bro fo lyfe.

Going to try to keep recruiting him along the way...hopefully his creator levels him up...lol.

I had the craziest play session yet while going after that bandit tome quest. I headed up to the (wrong) bandit hut, but got sidetracked earlier and split off on a path and saw a guy with a quest. He wanted me to get a door open so he could get through...seemed easy enough.

The cave was loaded with bandits and spiders, and then I saw an Ogre at the end. Had a lot of issues with him but eventually killed him off...only to see another down the path a little bit. There was actually a path that went around him, and I already opened the door I needed, but I kept going and exited the cave and was in some new area. The pawn with me was here already and said there was a rest spot nearby, but it was nearly nighttime and these lizard men were barely being hurt by me. So I eventually ran off and ended up losing a pawn out there, and when I came out of the cave the way I entered before the asshole said I had to clear the monsters before he could go through. So I ran back to town while fighting off zombies and such while being near dead the whole time, made it back and refreshed everything along with grabbing new pawns. Went back to the cave and found out what the monsters I had to clear were. That ogre from before, and...ANOTHER one in a hallway behind him. I killed them both off decently enough, finally beat that quest and not very intelligently decided to keep on going to the bandit hideout.

So much shit is on the road to this place. I came across an armored cyclops and kicked his ass pretty hard, no big deal but I was still hurting a bit from the ogres earlier. Cue packs of wolves, whatever. Then I found a smaller encampment of bandits, and I heard something...got attacked from behind by a Chimera. The bandits were actually fighting it as well, but I killed them so the pawns would focus on it. Nearly died but burned it to a crisp eventually. At this point it was getting dark but I was getting fairly close so I kept trucking on. The path lead up a mountain and gets narrow, it's now getting pitchblack. I see ANOTHER armored cyclops, and get into a fight with it. This part actually looked amazing with how it worked out, his club was lit on fire and when enough damage was done to his arm he dropped it, and it served as the only light source for the fight. I got pieces of his armor off and he started freaking out, picking up his club, almost killing me, but ended up charging off the side of the cliff...taking the only light source with him. I was at the bandit fort at this point and cleared it out easily enough and just searched around until the morning came, then I went a little bit farther and sniped some harpies but decided to run back to the city.

So basically in one day without healing the excess health my party kept losing, I managed to kill two ogres, two armored cyclops, a chimera, shitloads of bandits and wolves...goddamn. This was also the first time I actually saw anything in the wild, and never really fought a "big" enemy beyond the ogre I saw earlier in the cave.

fyi setting the 360 to output 720p instead of 1080p lowers the amount of screen tearing in the game.

Might be the same for the framerate problems for PS3?

I doubt it would do anything to framerate. The 720p tearing reduce was always present in framework games on 360.

Quick question about arrows which inflict status effects, specifically poison. Once an enemy has the poison effect, there's no more reason to continue using the poison arrows, right? I doubt it has any higher base damage, and there is no poison build-up effect is there? What I mean by that is, will the poison become more potent in their bodies, causing more HP loss per second.

Hahaha. Just teasing:) I killed em good.
Haha :D In that area on the cliff outside the gate, I would just hit them with one arrow, pick them up and throw them off the cliff! :) Made the fight much easier! And the animation people make when you throw them off a cliff is awesome! They don't just fall like a normal game ragdoll, they do the move where they kick and flail their arms as they look up! Very cool. Not to mention the satisfying thud and blood splat when they hit!

God's had his chance.
Strange, I actually went north first. Killed the bandit lady with an explosive barrel and ran then went to the south one. The markers disappeared individually. The guy in the south died before I could save him, but thanks to a poster here I still got the tome as it is still in its appropriate location even if he dies (you just wouldn't know it).

EDIT: My pawn and I are both Male, didn't get attacked until we got to the boss lady. One of the bandits downstairs by the gate (going further north) told me about how much she hated men, but also said something to the extent of perhaps her being ok with slimmer prettier men or something XD

As i went up that path towards the female bandit camp I was in such assassin murder mode I shot the first lookout on the rock in the face... everyone after that was pretty much already angry with me but i never stopped to ask. I think i mentioned once earlier that i killed the bandit camp leader and the entire time she had a red talk box over her head. Kind thought to myself "Welp.... already started killing folks. Doesn't really make sense to stop now.."

I initially thought this was what caused my quest to bug. Now i'm fairly convinced it's standard procedure. I've decided that their initial intention was to have whichever camp you went to first be neutral until you finished their questing via attacking the other group and wherever you went first would be who you got the tome from... or vice versa. Either way ... the comma someone missed to make the chicks chill the fuck out was deleted and what you get is inconsolable DD ladies that constantly want to rape your face.

Just got the game and started with an archer. Anything a newbie really, really needs to know or can I puzzle through it in-game?

I think you'll be alright for the most part. Be sure to gather consumables for health. Pick lots of grasses and things you can find. Lootable items will flash a little shade of white.

And hang on to any materials you find along the way such as ore, bones, monster parts, etc. You'll use them to upgrade equipment. Enjoy! :D

having your main pawn as a mage will make things a LOT easier on you.

I figured that and went that route. Patterned them after my daughter, who lobbied hard to be the main character.

I keep seeing a notification when a pawn picks something up. Does that all go into regular inventory? A couple times I've been looting a chest and they gather around too. I feel like I'm fighting them for loot lol

When your Pawn picks up items it goes in their inventory.

This game is great. I'm so glad they made this instead of another DMC game. I hope it sells well, they could really take it places if it were to turn into a franchise.

Haha! I patterned mine after my daughter too. "Go blow up that Ogre for daddy."

gold is communal, everything else goes into their inventory.

someone said that whatever rented pawns still have in inventory when you dismiss them goes into storage, but I've never checked to be sure. it would make sense, since my pawn never really comes back with anything but rocks and rotten food as "gifts"

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
Why cant we have more than one save file? It's kinda annoying...

I'm starting to think there is one save file to encourage the concept of one personal pawn per player identity. That, and having a NG+, continuing to play after the first cycle to try missed quests again, continue leveling, etc.

Not saying having multiple save files wouldn't be useful for some things... but I don't think it's an oversight. More an intentional design choice.

I was doing one of those trader escort quests from a notice board and the idiot kept running to the enemies and died. Anyone knows if he'll respawn and I can attempt it again? I saw somewhere that said they'll respawn in 7 in game days, but I have no idea if that works.

Wow randomly running around Gran and got the worst case of motion sickness ever. Had to stop the game. Cripes I am out of dramamine too. I hate being human:( Didn't happen in so many hours of playing. I hate this crap:(

Noticed something odd - if I save the game, pick up some loot, then die and reload that save, I'm in the spot where I had saved, but all the loot is gone and it's not in my inventory. Hopefully that was just an isolated couple of instances. But it can't be said enough how awful the save game system is and how badly this game needs fast travel. If there's a sequel, I hope they listen.

I've been playing this game nonstop (like level 35 now?), and I'm seriously in love with it. It's a little rough around the edges, but for every snag there's some little bit of polish somewhere you least expect.

That said, I hate occasionally taking on a new quest only to have some completely other random one fail without warning and having no option to reload with a simultaneous auto-save and checkpoint. This just happened to me like five minutes ago--I have no clue why "The Conspirators" would've failed from a quest I just accepted.

Did you word this correctly? It sounds like you're saying that you saved, did something, and then reloaded that save, expecting what you did after it to somehow carry over. Do you mean stuff that's still on the ground is temporary and doesn't get saved?

I don't agree about the fast travel. It was one of the things I very much disliked about the latter third of Dark Souls. I'm glad it's a luxury in this game limited by expensive, consumable items.

One of the people I escorted was a real beast.

I had to take him to this
Shadow Fort
and while I was trying to find the damn place, I found out how durable and powerful this warrior was against those bandits.

I actually regret taking him to his destination, since he helped me and my main pawn level up exponentially!

Especially since I'm having some orge trouble.

I'd give aught to have someone like him in my party.

Oh nice, you can skip straight to the level 3 enhancement on a weapon/armor piece of you've got the materials. No need to go from 1 > 2 > 3 upgrades.

Yep just like the skills. As long as you have the materials you can go to 3 right away hich is one of the reasons I was saying earlier that I personally felt that it was one of the best upgrade systems in a game I had seen.

The first time I played this. The very first night. I logged well over 10 hours straight. It was almost instant love.

As for quests ya that can happen sadly. Guess another playthrough is in order:)

I am loving this game! Just got myself and pawn to level 28. Been mostly exploring and doing sidequests, only gotten as far as the capitol in the main story. After failing two sidequests by perusing the story (sorry girl who went to witchwood) I put it aside for the time being. So glad my instincts were right about this game, I was sold on it 45 seconds into the debut trailer and it didn't let me down. I'm not going to try to argue which game is "better" but personally I like this much more than Amalur and Skyrim put together.

I wish I could use a direction on the d-pad to change equipment though, specifically to toggle my assassin between sword/shield and daggers/bow. Or just from shield to bow.

Gotta disagree with this.

There are plenty of games with fast travel, nice to have one change it up and make the most of it with the need for lanterns/oil, undead at night and require planning for your next outing.

I can pick this game up from a friend of mine for $35 tomorrow, you guys think it's worth it?

The demo wasn't bad. Combat is a lot more loose compared to Dark Souls, but being able to jump on a gryphon and fight it was awesome.

Seriously man just look at the thread. When was the last time you saw us all agree this much on a game. There as been like 4 personal attacks in 56 pages hahahaha. A Neogaf low.
Of course get it!

It's the little things that make me love this game. I dumped a pickaxe on my main pawn to drop my weight and now he mines alongside me.

Also combining a hammer and shackles makes something that sounds very useful.

I was aching for this with dagger and staff when I was a Magick Archer, but I decided that being able to switch on the field in the first place is advantage enough over other classes to begin with. :(

While on the subject of a Dragon's Dogma franchise, I can't help but say...

Dragon's Dogma 2: We're Not in Gransys Anymore!

>_>

Gods of awesome, MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Also, under what circumstances do the available armors in shops change? After doing more main quest?

We can agree to disagree about fast travel. I think it sucks. What I said is that the stuff on the ground/tables when I saved is now gone. Just pointed out that it wasn't in my inventory (via auto-save).

Yeah, guess I still need to do more research though. I want to know how varied the enemies are and what kind of variety there is in terms of weapons and armor.

Do you have a main goal in the game throughout or is it free-roam go around and do what you want?

The main goal is rather dull and uninteresting so many of us have stated that we've been spending most of our team doing anything but the main quest line. There's lots of sidequests, some good, some bad, but if you like the combat it won't matter.

Played an hour of the game, seems awesome. Typical gripes I have with Japanese games are no different here and very minor (Why does turning off music = turning off all sound in cutscenes?!? Menus/interface is clunky and overcomplicated).

Since my other post fucked up here it is.

Apparently i failed a quest cause it flew away at the end. But one swipe and it was tearing into my pawns.

Oh god, that golem snapshot makes me want to cry.

I spent an entire in-game night (and then some) killing my first one with a team that consisted of the worst possible golem-killing party ever.

Love being a mage.
It's hard not to love that when the game's magic is so amazing. When I first realized there was a thunderclap sound after Levin, I couldn't contain myself.
