A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
Driving line is pretty terrible. I started enjoying driving games when I shut it off. You have to actually learn the track and the game becomes more than just a moving game of Simon.

I don't think it has any place in an arcade racer. It actually prevents people from being good at the game.

Yeah but this doesn't really have a racing line, and it's also not totally arcade either.

The game sneakily teaches you how to approach cornering by segmenting parts of the track as spontaneous Cornering Face Offs, which are pretty much a sector racing line.

It works well.

The crash ahead took me by surprise. You get completely blinded for a moment by the dirt kicked up!

Mah man. So you did watch this one. :D

I rolled my car because in the same race prior to recording this one because the AI be cray.

Did you see the other one with the livery editor?

Brilliant thread title.
I saw the game over one year ago, well before the delay, and it looked so meh.
I'm pretty curious to try it now.

A full driving line is pretty unnecessary. I much prefer the kind that only pops up near corners to tell you, you are going too fast.

Still if Driveclub doesn't have any kind of line that seems like a incredibly dumb move.

With the lack of a rewind function it just dramatically increase the amount of race ruining crashes that that make you do the entire thing again.

I still use a full driving line. I think I'm just used to having it now. I like it!

I don't see the difference between a full driving line and a breaking line. It's still telling you when to hit the breaks, which turns it into a game of simon. You should learn the tracks. The game tells you when you are coming up on hard, medium, and light turns. Don't you know / don't you want to learn what that means for each car you're in in terms of speed you can take a turn?

I don't understand the complaint really. You'll have to redo races until you learn the tracks? Isn't that how we used to learn how to play racing games? I don't see how that's incredibly dumb.

What is the harm in including it for the people who like it? If you don't like it, turn it off?...

There's no harm. I'm disputing that it is "incredibly dumb" and saying they are already giving you a lot of visual indication about what your speed should be.

Yeah. I really don't like this whole, "I don't like a thing, and you're less than for liking that thing, cause its for babies!"

I like a driving line because that's how I have fun playing racing games.

The lights on the dashboard turn on as it's leaving the tunnel.

Modern cars brighten the dashboard lights to compensate for brighter outdoor lighting. When my car turns on the headlights automatically as it gets darker, it also dims the dashboard backlight. Likewise when you turn off the headlights, the dash gets brighter.

I just did. Had to stay away for a few hours to work without distractions. And man, have I been distracted all week!

I did see the livery editor. Pretty cool. But you didn't show how you designed the logo! :(

I can confirm this.

I think it's a good thing. You have to learn the car's handling strengths, learn the track, learn the corners just like a real driver. Racing games have been dumbed down enough. Saying that, a driving line is good for those people who pick up the game who are not so good at driving.

DC doesn't tell you when to break or how to break. It just shows you the position you should be in for certain turns where there is a Face Off.

The rest of the race you're completely left to your own devices to figure it out.

It does have flags for certain turns, for example soft turns are green flagged, medium yellow, red hard. But they're just flags on the side of the track, purely anticipatory.

This makes sense.

Well its just dumb they are not using the standard visual indicator which has been used in racing games the last decade, or have the option for it.

It doesn't hurt to have it in there as a option.

Crashing my car on lap 5 of a race and having to restart because I overshot a corner just isnt my idea of fun anymore. I dont have time for that.

Ugh. I was watching the gamersyde videos on my TV and my brother, who isn't even much of a gamer, walks in and says, "Nice 30 frames per second." :( And then, "It doesn't even look that good either." ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Then he says Burnout Paradise looked better.

Hoping the heavy rain effects on the windshield in cockpit view affects visibility unlike that other game. Evo still haven't shown off how rain looks in cockpit view so I'm wondering how it'll look.

Flicking through the thread, saw this gif, literally thought it was real. An all time first.

He didn't even know what game it was. He came back in and said, "What game are you playing?" I said that I wasn't playing and that they were videos for Driveclub. "Driveclub is 30fps? I have to say, I'm really disappointed." I know for a FACT he wasn't even going to play the game because he never plays racers.

I might be LTTP, but gamespot seems to have released a second video today, focused more on the social aspects of the game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBThW35aoT0&list=UUbu2SsF-Or3Rsn3NxqODImw

See, everything mentioned here is what makes me baffled that some of you expect 70 scores.

The accessibility of this game is a huge positive that I'm sure many reviewers are going to appreciate. It's not about coming #1 all the time. The social aspects are solidly integrated, and the UI constantly has an integration that promotes that competitiveness in club races. The club races themselves are team events that seem reminiscent of games like the Crew, except Driveclub is beating them to the punch.

Couple accessibility with solid gameplay, social integration, and incredible graphics, and I can't see how this game wont score 80+ on Metacritic.

MAYBE

they should add that
son...is that from Sega Saturn Daytona U.S.A days?

Whoa, tickle my nostalgic bone some more!

So reviews gonna go like

Euro guys: We love this!

U.S guys: We don't understand why you want to drive and track stuff?!

Driving lines makes no sense to me in an arcade racer. Pure sims, sure, where exact breaking points change per vehicle/setup. Games were racing lines are all important. In racing games where you're jostling for position and the game encourages drifts, then sticking to an exact racing line is not how most races will turn out.

Personally, I find in games which do allow racing lines, for as long as I have them turned on, I don't learn the track. I just blindly follow the colour code line. The only way to learn the track is to feel your way around it, and learning the turns, bends and bumps for yourself.

PLEASE check out this year's F1 game from Codemasters. It seems to take into account how rubbish visibility is in heavy rain. To the point where a whole line of cars is driving 15% below their top speed, which is otherwise unheard of in the sport. It's a game that has to deal with more league rejiggering than FIFA, every year, and they still seem to focus on doing more with less. The heavy rain simulation available only on last gen (though also PC) this time around is great evidence of that.
