My DC experience, perhaps this has value to those undecided in buying it.

This Christmas I picked up Drive Club again after selling my original copy back to BB a week after launch. I enjoyed the game back then, but with the bugs and the trade in value essentially making it so I didn't lose money, I decided to sell it back and give it some time to get solid before buying it.

I bought the game for myself and 3 friends, was a great sale price and was less than $100 for all four, so why not make a club by giving a gift.

Played it a couple of days now;

1. Online is not fixed entirely, but compared to launch it is a huge improvement and very usable most times. Most often I run into a problem where one of us gets kicked from a lobby during race formation, though this is most common after racing 2 or more races in a row. The fix is to back out and reform the group and load a new track that has a decent 1+ minute wait time. Annoying, yes, but not so bad it makes us not feel it is worth it to play.

2. Weather is incredible, and adds a great dynamic to the races. My one complaint is the camera gets obstructed by the rain/snow, and it makes it hard to see. In car you have the wipers so it is not as bad, but I prefer racing out of car. They should allow you to simulate the wiper effect at minimum on the camera for those of us who prefer that view.

3. The diversity of the cars is really well done. You have to learn how each car is designed to race if you want to do well. If you race them the same you will quickly learn that some cars are horrible with certain styles. Racing a Mazzanti Evantra I learned quickly to carefully use the gas in corners and only floor it once I was strait. Ont he flip side a car like the Ferrari F99xx is similar in power category, but is more forgiving with earlier gas.

4. Online races; these are a ton of fun, BUT I hate that pretty much every race I am in there is at least one guy who smashes everything near him and uses other cars as brakes. I had thought the collision penalty system dissuaded this, but it seems to have been toned WAY down. Even in "team"r aces these guys will run you off the road on your own team. I'd like to see a harsher penalty returned or added for this or preferably, and option to set races with a custom penalty setting. Let people chose to race in races like it is destruction derby or select races that make this tactic heavily penalized.

5. Challenges; I was surprised at how much these drew me in. A club member and I kept racing one challenge in particular trying to shave off a second here or there to take over the lead. These help build community and rivalries.

6. In race mini challenges; working much better and so far no versions occurring with results that are impossible to beat. As designed, they keep me interested in finishing a race even when in last place.

7. Paint; Wish we had more base paint colors for factory, add some diversity beyond club color schemes.

8. Club size; Haven't filled my club fully yet, but I can see getting to a point where a couple more spots might be nice to have.

Overall I am really having a good time with my return to the game, and my friends like it as well.

All good points, M@cross. Didn't want to quote your entire post for the sake of brevity.

The behind the car view in bad weather is difficult drive for sure.

I fully agree regarding the challenges. My brother and I live halfway across the USA apart, sending and receiving times to beat is one of the high points of the game for me.

Paint options need an increase for sure. Only being able to save 4 custom paint jobs is a bit skinny IMO, but the inability to select an alternate factory color before a race is embarrassing.

I also think a few more club slots would be nice as long as the limit of 6 party members is allowed to race in public lobbies. If club limit was raised to 8 for example, and you were allowed to bring a party of 8 online, you could have clubs that dominate by controlling the track or bullying the other 4 players.

As always, a good rest does the trick, just won semi-pro cup being first. Off to Pro cup!

Just unlocked the F458 too. Damn awesome car.

So I'm doing the solo tour championships, and I'm wondering if weather is implemented in any of them? Do I need to race online or set up a custom time trial to get the weather effects? I like to do all the offline stuff first and having some weather races would be great.

So how are the drifting physics in this game? Any game it can be compared to?

Not a fan of how Nfs speed games handle the feel of tire slip, hopefully it doesn't feel like that.

I'm still at a loss for the two challenge trophies. I've done exactly what the trophies describe and I haven't gotten either of them. Anyone have a similar issue?

Weather is only in the elements tour mode, or in custom / online / challenges, it's not in the other tours

In a word, they are wonky, not sure you can compare them to anything really, drifting really highlights the lack of depth in the tyre and suspension modelling.

Oh ok, so there's a tour specifically designed with weather in mind? I must not have unlocked it yet. I'm only on the first batch of hatch races.

Going to buy that now. Any other DLC recommendations? Thank you for your help too btw.

All of it!!, LOL

Seriously,iIt's all pretty good, although be aware that the difficulty of getting stars in the DLC tours is a fair bit higher than the standard tour, so that might get on your goat if you are a bit OCD about 100%'ing everything.

If you join a high-level club to unlock all there is to acquire, and then quit it, do you get to keep the unlocks, or does it lock it back automatically?

Got the game yesterday, and I'm not good at driving games at all, plus I don't have a lot of time recently to play (plus I prioritize some other games for when I have some) so I don't really want to impose that way of playing on a bona fide club, but still would like the rewards if possible :p

Just bought the elements tour pack, and a bunch of free cars that were up for download. That should keep me for a while. Thanks!

I will warn you that the Elements tour is hard as all hell.

Is there a way to check your playtime in this? I have put an insane amount of hours into this since I have aquired it.

The vehicles are only unlocked if you are a club member at the associated level. If you leave the club, the cars will once again be locked.

I'm not certain on this but it seems if you aren't connected to the DC servers you won't be able to access the club cars even if you are in a club and they are unlocked. During the recent PSN DDoS attacks I was unable to connect to the servers, the "My Club" section was unavailable, and the club cars were locked for me. Once I was able to connect to the server I was able to select them again.

What makes it difficult? Is it not being able to see or just the loss of control? Also, why does it seem like it only snows in front of my car? When I switch views while racing I see no snow behind the car.

A bit of not being able to see, a bit of lack of grip and a bit of the AI difficulty appears to be pumped up a bit, on the non AI events (TT's and Drift) the requirements for getting stars are tougher than the standard tour also.

Have to be online when the challenges expire. I successfully used an alt account and both popped after the hour passed (minimum time you can use). Whoever you send the challenge to has to run it and make sure their time gets recorded. They just need to run it not beat you. So with an alt account just send them, run them as the alt, then swap back and mess around till they expire.

This has probably been mentioned, but here's one for the updates wishlist:

I'd like to be able to turn more elements of the UI on and off. Ideally, I'd just like to be able to see my position and time and nothing else. A way to just see my time would be great, too. I'm going for a time-goal star on a certain event right now, and I've turned off the UI entirely just so that I can increase my focus on the race and track themselves. But that means I also have no idea about my time until the race is over and I can see the results screen.

I would be great to have an option for each UI element, like we do for the mini map.

There are a plenty of casual clubs that would not mind if you aren't "hardcore" or overly serious or even a skilled racer. If you search the club lists, many of them are open and allow anyone to join. You can always start your own club and do the same, or close it and be the only member.

Don't underestimate how much you can contribute just by playing. You will level up your club by doing events, challenges, getting stars, and even just by drifting in time trials. It won't take that long to get to 15, which is the last vehicle gate.

Edit: You need at least 2 for the club to earn rep.

Are notifications broken for anybody else? Ive had a message for days that I cant see, it just has that loading circle but nothing ever comes up.

Also, still looking for a proper club, nobody seems to be playing in the one Im in (Ive ranked up the club solo twice now). Send me an invite! PSN: DrGonzo615

So I'm terrible at drifting and I've been watching some tutorial videos. Looks like MT and down-shifting is the secret? I was hoping I could avoid all that shifting business.....

Both. I drive in the cockpit view so it is very difficult to see at time. This is on top of a lot of the elements tour using higher end cars that are harder to control even outside of the wet roads.

And I would assume the headlights are catching the snow in front of it.

I've 3 starred all the drift event using AT and the handbrake- unless your trying to top the tables then that should be all you need. Merun had a post earlier in this thread outlining the best drift methods.

Why when I enter a online room that says just "Supercars" I cant choose all the cars available? Just a few of them. I want to use the Ferraris but they dont appear (only the DLC one) I have to use the Mazzanti.

Each online room is set up differently, some give you every car of the class, some are limited to a smaller range. This just keeps things fresh, helps the newer guys who won't have unlocked the higher cars and stops everyone just specialising on 1 or 2 cars for each class. There can also be a gulf in speed between the best and worst in a class.

Wait, so if you're in a club, and you're offline, you can't use the club unlocked cars? :( Damn.

It only mattered early on. Once you have DLC cars and/or leveled up you won't notice that their gone. Its only 5 cars. I think Evo is supposed to fix them offline at some point though.

How the hell are you supposed to drift in this game? I cannot figure out a sure-fire method for the life of me. There's one stage in the tour that's dedicated to drifting as much as possible for points and I just embarrass myself with every attempt.

One thing that I've noticed is that it's (normally) better to start drifting before the drift zone, get the angle and speed set before you hit the zone for maximum points, the two most important things are speed and angle of drift, infact, I think angle of drift is more important in this game, so get it as sideways as possible.

Other than that, it's just a case of slinging the car into the turn, pulling the handbrake to get the slide going, then opposite lock and feather the throttle, a common mistakes are applying too much throttle during the slide and spinning, not enough throttle and coming out of the slide, too slow for the turn and not having enough inertia to carry the slide through, or too fast and coming off the outside of the turn.

Drifting is a bit wonky in this game, and it has some foibles that you need to get to grips with, some cars are much better than others, mid engined cars and electric cars are particularly wonky.

Looking for a semi serious, fun, active club of quality drivers. Very fast (lvl 46), ex granturismo addict here. Bored with my current inactive club of rl friends.

PM me :)

This has already been fixed in the latest update. All cars including the ones unlocked through a club are playable offline (I think there is one Ferrari that is multiplayer only)

You know I used the Bac Mono the other day during the ddos and didn't even pay attention!

Edit: My club cars are locked out "while the club is inactive" and the Atom has like 1/8" less top speed on my screen. I got it to 166 on a straightaway but can't run the Mono to compare actual top end. Maybe the listed top end of the Atom isn't correct but it does show less on my screen in the comparison section.

Edit edit: the Mono finally loaded and runs about 152ish. Pretty sure I had it to 155 the other day. So while the displayed top end on the Atom is lower in the car selector the actual car speed is higher. I knew it looked slower, glad I asked and tested it. Feel better about losing to Atoms now.

Atoms have that freakish acceleration too. To beat them in the BAC you have to really make use of its above superior cornering ability as they'll kick your ass if you don't come out with max speed. Especially on that Norwegian track in the Lightweight cup grrr

Cool gif. I will have to remember to pay attention to that when I go home next month. Maybe it is brief, but I have never noticed the whiteout from inside of car. Curious now if it actually happens with the human eye or only on camera!

Yes some of the drifting events require a high level of skill. The night time didn't hinder my progression whatsoever, just found it annoying being so dark.

Not you specifically Benzy, but I hope others aren't offended by me posting some details I viewed to be un-enjoyable about this or any other game. No game is perfect and things I find annoying may be details someone else perceives as gratifying and vice versa.

The problem is the stuff you wrote about rubber-banding AI is just plain wrong, and has been addressed in this thread already.

The pack will slow to allow you to catch up (and it does this in different ways - some events the whole pack comes together, others there are two groups 9th-5th & 4th-1st, the latter seeing the lead pack switch it up as soon as you catch them).

None of the AI cars can perform outside of their in-game top speed, acceleration & handling. They don't get a turbo or teleport to get to you (the drafting thing is too strong tho, and it's being addressed in a future update). Most times they catch you because exited a corner too slowly and aren't carrying the same momentum they are.

Don't take the bar stats of each car as gospel. A lot of them aren't one to one representative of the cars. For instance, the acceleration of the Apollo enraged is higher than both the venom and agera, but that only takes into account of the acceleration from 0-150.

Oops, think I just accidentally murdered the hell out of Allie Sanders with my BAC Mono. Approaching the final corner in second place and braked far too late, hit the back of car, went under it and launched them over the barrier. Poor Allie, she had a good run. :(

Lol nice :) You can get away with abusing the AI drivers quite a lot without a penalty - I keep getting sent 1 lap race challenges where it virtually mandatory to launch them into the barriers on the first few bends to stand any chance of getting through them and set a good time.

Speaking of challenges, I set the fastest time in the world with an X-Bow on Bandipur today so decided to send it out as a challenge... I'm now 3rd fastest in the world thanks to Vaga and Mango :-(

Nerded out tonight and ran each car on Oliver's Landing to get their top speed.

Average speed by class:
Hot Hatch 131 MPH
Sports 143 MPH
Performance 160 MPH
Super 170 MPH
Hyper 200 MPH

Slowest Super car was the Twin'Run at 142 which could easily slide into the Sports class. Some Supers could drop down to the Performance class like the Bac Mono (154) and Xbow (156). The most surprising to me was the Agera topping out at 213 and just nudging the Venom which ran 212. The P1 took third fastest at 210 with boost on but only 189 with DRS at the default angle and no boost. Slowest Hyper was the Huayra at 190. Spano was fastest Super at 190.

Doesn't mean a whole lot since braking and overall handling play a lot in the actual racing part but was a fun little project.

Just thought I'd come in here and say what y'all already know: Driveclub is awesome.

I got it a day ago and it's been an amazing experience so far. Sadly, I'm not a member of any club yet, but I've been making my way through the primary campaign and just loving the hell out of it. Perfect racing experience, incredible graphics (usually), and just a joy to play overall. I am glad I waited to pick it up, I'm not hugely patient, but the way it is now they really should re-review it. It's a solid 9 for sure.

You can change the color of cars in the garage. It seems like a lot of people don't know this.
