DRIVECLUB The Drenched Forests of Canada

I'm not an expert but it seems they can get this incredible rain detail in the game without a hit to performance as they smartly use the mist to cut the draw distance of the backgrounds down.

The mist also acts as a block to the dynamic sun rays, which requires some processing power.

It's easier to share and view on mobile smaller videos. Look at the incredible reaction these two instagram videos have garnered here alone. We're already at 5 pages and counting. Each video already has over 2000 shares on instagram.

There's a case for teasing like this on social media. The 1080P videos will come for sure. They even say that the weather systems are still in development, and we're months away from launch. We haven't even seen the real marketing push for this game begin yet.

I think their strategy is working.

sure sure sure (your post really does make perfect sense), but GAF want's the hardcore 1080p uncompressed shit.

What's completely crazy is how the game looks like someone actually driving down those roads in the rain as opposed to it being a game that just looks super sharp. They really hit it out of the park with the global illumination, the effects, pretty much everything except the powerlines (lol).

My thoughts exactly. Looked pretty lifelike in that clip.

Someone should post a comparison of DriveClub at 2013 E3 and this/later videos?

The improvements are stark (like you'd expect, but still...).

Much improved in the latest build, these vids were done just after E3 :)

Just saw the short clip on the Evolution Facebook feed. This is super impressive. Right up there with the best moments from Project Cars' weather effects, but I'd say consistent in a way where even a "mundane" moment without dramatic lighting to highlight what's happening gives a strong impression.

Fantastic work.

Not sure if it looks any different in the sunny version of the track but it even seems like the little stream might be flowing more heavily in the one video. I'm noticing a bunch of white splashes against the rocks.

I can't even imagine what this is going to look like on my TV.

I can't stop watching these videos. I've been sitting here for the past 20 or so minutes just watching them over and over.

How did they do it? They should release a 'making of' documentary.

Pardon me? The game looks better than those clips now? What?

:O

Edit: And this is an ARCADE racer. You guys are definitely blurring the line between arcade and simulator in the looks department.

Wish there was a collector's edition for this game; #Driveclub deserves it.
Also keeping my fingers crossed for a new motorstorm game on PS4. If you
reading this Mr. Rushy, please make it happen. #motorstorm4.

Not sure I understand why they release the vids on instagram or facebook and on what is what less than 720p?

Aside from that, from what I see the weather effects look great.

I have to imagine this is due to some GPGPU trickery, right? The game was already looking well beyond anything else we have ever seen in a racer, and then they just drop an entire simulated weather system on top of it?

Rushy,

You and the rest of the team should be proud of how well DriveClub is coming together. It's mind boggling how much better the game plays and looks now vs. E3 2013.

The weather system looks like it is going to set a new bar for console racers (heck, maybe console games period). I know you are planning on delivering it post launch as a free update, but set yourselves a stretch goal of making launch. Having weather at launch would positively effect review scores, which is always good ;)
