Driveclub "the new" footage in HD

How can you compare a night shot and a daytime shot?

You can't deny that for a launch game, Forza 5 looks great and plays even better.

DRIVECLUB looks amazing but also got a 9 month delay right?

There's really no comparison to be fair. DriveClub looks considerably better. As it should. A better comparison will be to Forza Horizon, but in any case, lets just keep the Forza out of this.

DriveClub looks a bit bland during night-time

Evo needs to get a bit creative and add stars, meteor strikes and a milky way rise to that skybox

The IQ looks pretty bad in those videos.

For me, IQ can make or break a game visually.

Everything else looks good (nice detail, lighting, shaders, car interiors) but it just looks so jaggy :\

Exactly, i don't understand how devs aren't focusing on IQ as first priority when they want to present an impressive engine, all those effects and hard work not worth much if i see all those jaggies, seriously it's better to tone down some obscure effect that nobody will notice than to have a bad AA.

Bad AA even the most casual player can see unlike that real time reflection on that left panel.

A motor storm type game would have been better. This looks good but looks boring. I don't feel like anyone is actually racing each other in these videos. Just staying in formation. Might as well be an Afterdark screensaver.

There are stars when it turns fully night. They shouldn't really add all that extra stuff for the hell of it though, it's supposed to be realistic looking not fantasy…

I said it when I first saw the videos, and it still holds true with this better quality footage: The India stage just looks better. Textures on those stone walls, those mountains in the distance, so many things in that Chile video look rough and unconvincing. India's higher density vegetation lends itself better to covering the game's flaws, and driving at daylight / dusk looks quite a bit better than night driving (rather sublime at times, in fact). There's still time to fix many of those things, and the fully dynamic lighting is indeed responsible for some very nice moments, but overall it's really not as splurge-worthy as some comments I've been reading in these threads might lead one to believe (understandably; after all, it's an exclusive and thus console wars ammo). In any case, there are many months to go till October.

Somewhat better than the IGN videos, but not by very much. Regardless, the IQ needs to improve before release; no point in having so many thin lines everywhere if the used AA solution cannot sort it out.

hahaha Saved the thread. I'm gonna stop with anything negative now. You slapped me in check lol

heh, pulled you back from the brink. Try and have a little faith, it's Evo and they have worked miracles in the last six months of production of their games.

I have to say as well, driving games as a spectator sport (outside of replays) always look terribly dull to me - unless they're Outrun, Daytona or Ridge Racer - but usually feel a lot different when I've got the controller. Mind you, I'm shit at these type of driving games so I don't think Driveclub will really be for me, unless the MP/social side does it, but that's the beauty of the PS+ version.

Aliasing, dull, and repeating textures everywhere.

They aren't repeating textures, they're the cars in front, you buffoon!

I miss a good arcade game that is not about crashing things or running from cops.

While I agree with you here, the more I see of Driveclub the less arcadey it looks. I know the game is supposed to be sim/arcade but I feel like footage of the game leans way more towards sim. When I think of arcade racing, I think powersliding, drifting etc. Very few instances of that at all in these videos, just some oversteering and sliding, or hitting a turn too fast.

Sorry, but WHERE did the 30FPS go? I watchted it at gaming distance on my 1080p TV in native res. I see nothing special. And the 30FPS seem horrible unsmooth. If I say it's stuttering, some will blame me for trolling, but well...it kinda is. And no, it's not my PC. And I don't think that it's the video either.

Because it's not bad AA by any stretch of the imagination. If we could use a bit of perspective. Name another console racer that looks this good and has better image quality.

...

Yeah. So how does this classify as bad AA? This and WD have so much senseless negativity about visuals that still rank in the 99th percentile of games on the platform. There's a lot good in these 2 videos.

- Great draw distance, unlike NFS that either threw hairpins after blind sweepers, or made it impossible to make out the turn indicator because the image quality was legitimately poor at distance.

- 12 cars and no evidence of rubberbanding in the two races.

- Impressive realtime lighting and reflections.

- Car models look great and seem to have weight and a solid look to the interactions.

- The time of day transitions look good.

There's other stuff, but I have to get ready for work. The game is shaping up nicely. I wish gamers would show greater appreciation for the wonders devs provide for us. Programming isn't easy. Disparaging an effort many of us can't do seems unfair and childish. Mind you, I've actually got a computer engineering degree and done a lot of coding, but even I can't do what the coders on this project can do. So I prefer to focus on the positives in their work. Criticism should at least be constructive. PEACE.

One thing is for certain, no matter what trees still look like garbage in racing games.

So you agree?

What? The trees look amazing in this game!

I do think that vegetation took a big hit in detail and overall density.

You can't say that because you have no point of comparison. Different levels. And I'm definitely not seeing a hit in detail, not that we could tell with this compressed video anyway.

Gran Turismo 6 still has the most stunning night racing to my mind, 7 is going to be unbelievable. This looks pretty nice though, hopefully the aliasing will be diminished a bit by release but I'm sure it'll be less noticeable when actually playing.

I'm hoping this shimmering on the back of the car is not there anymore. It's kind of hard to tell on the new compressed footage, but it seems to be gone. This if from I think a September or October:

Edit: wait, this ISN'T the compressed footage. I mean, it's compresssed but not the horrible Youtube and IGN streaming videos. Just went back to watch these new ones, and it's still kind of hard to tell, especially consdering the difference in car, whether the shimmering was fixed.

They could have a lot more stars in the sky as it's really dark in that area, with very little light pollution you can see the milky way, in city blackouts people call 911 when they are shocked with what they see lol.

It looks OK I guess.

But whatever happened to the things surrounding the racing? I remember the first footage we saw where the player walked around the car and then sat in it and looked around. I thought Drive Club was gonna put some focus on those kinda things, to try and build a unique atmosphere with lots of interaction.

I guess they skipped all that and just went for some straight-forward racing connected with lots of menu options?

It says x30 time laps on the second video...maybe a dumb question but is that just the sky or the whole race is sped up. When I watched it on ign I was impressed with the speed on the second video, but maybe its not really that fast?

this is just lame...do you watch tv shows and movies and whine about them since they run at 24 fps? That video was smooth as ice

whats wrong with you?

Well, take a look at the picture in post #141 in this thread and compare it to this. But it's not 1:1 comparable, here you are right. This is not just down sampled bullshot vs. in game , they seemed to have changed the way they draw the leaves. I might be totally wrong ...

Could those who have a loyalty to another console, or never liked Driveclub and never intended to ever like Driveclub, please have the decency to be honest.

Some of you guys must spend hours in the mirror plucking your eyebrows and combing your hair.

I assume they didn't play AC4 on Xbone. Or Battlefield on console.

you want to talk jaggy wires

I really do like the quality of the light in this game, it's quite remarkable

Seems like the time-of-day setting so that you can see day-to-night and night-to-day transitions in a short video.

Agreed

Are that all the people who aren't ecstatic?
Absolutely. The more realistic games get, and especially with racers where the cars have to be slick and smooth, aliassing will only be more apparent.
I liked how clean horizon looked on the 360. They should be able to do better on PS4, even with a more ambitious game like DriveClub.
But maybe that will happen in the last months. I hope so.

Small discrepancies apart, this game looks extraordinary. I can't stop looking at that lighting.

Wait, I didn't even realize this thread was for them finally getting the proper HD footage of the game. Just went back to the first post and watched it.

Anyway, I really don't think you can tell considering the supersampled shots you're comparing to, and different types of trees.
