I've been playing this like a maniac for the last few days. Finished everything in Story mode except for a few Others stages and will be starting Ambition mode shortly.
Generally impressed with what I've played so far. Having a selection of characters to choose from each time in Story mode makes it far more entertaining than 7's (no more freakin' Sima Zhao all the time). I wouldn't say the stages themselves are noticeably better than in other entries in the series. Largely in favour of the weapon affinity system as well, since it at least mixes things up a bit.
The pugil sticks are quite possibly my favourite DW weapon to date. Da Qiao still has her awesome grapple musou (with WO3 level damage rather than DW7 damage) so combine the two and she's my favourite character to use by a country mile. Still need to experiment with a lot of the other characters.
I'm in disbelief that they altered the Iron Fan's C6 (which was one of my favourite attacks in DW7) and replaced it with garbage. The C5 damage also seems toned down.
Zhang Chunhua and Jia Chong are the standouts for me among the new characters. Mainly for their personalities, but their movesets are great as well.

Just completed Wei hypothetical. Wei the best. So damn good.
Xiahou Dun is still my favorite male character.
My only complaint outside of the horse thing is the frame rate. I may be remembering wrong, but I don't think 7 had that much slow down. I know for sure it was never as bad though.

After starting Ambition mode, it does feel like its treading the fine line between this is getting grating and must do another battle for unlocking more things.
I have found that skirmishes are probably the best thing to do and to do them in groups of three so that you'll end with a duel stage and gain more famous officers in each run. I have hit walls where I have too many allies before I have enough fame for them.
And getting all the voices will probably be the most time consuming thing out there. While it is just maxing a character's male and female bonds, there are 70something characters, so this will definitely take a long while...
Pretty much yeah, I'm trying to do 90 battles (at 72 now). i thought I had to have more ally capacity before heading out to here, but I think I maxed out my allies (400/400) by battle 53 or so. I'm just glad after battle 50 I stopped having to do the annoying duels.

I played co-op at my place with a friend, and it was even worse. Oh, Cthulhu, it was bad.
Good to know, I noticed there was some dlc up for the 360 version but it errored out everytime I clicked on it, is that the jap voice pack or something else like avatars?
Good news for 360 buyers.
I have noticed some slowdown on some stages with a lot of enemies or with fire (Chibi) in the PS3 version, but it is usually only for a few seconds at a time and is very minor to me.

Got this game on Sunday and been playing insane hours in it. Last time I played the main series was 4 I think so was nice to see how the series changed. I'd like to play co op with someone here provided you are not the kind of person to rage quit if something goes wrong. I don't think I am bad or good at the game.
Not to go off topic but I really liked the romance of the 3 kingdom series before it went real time (10 was my favourite and I liked the rpg aspect of starting from nothing and joining a faction when I felt like it while history happened around me). Is there an empire game that is like that (samurai warriors or dynasty warriors)? Is there a nobunaga's ambition like that?
I played empire 6 and it was nice but very basic and not very tactical at all. Empire 7 looks like what I am looking for. Is it a good empire game?

I believe it is just watch the endings for both the historical and hypothetical routes. So from what it sounds you only need to get all the stars to unlock the Hypothetical route and nothing more.

Also randomly decided to start the extremely fun 100 battles run in Ambition mode.
I'm on like 33 or so, and while it has been stupidly trivial, it's mind numbing boring.

I just want superior Zhenji 6 costume. Started playing Ambition mode because I keep reaching the limit for weapons and want to unlock the reforge option. I just want to play Ambition mode now. Sigh. Have like 3 stages left for Wu and all of Jin. Also, half of the Other characters.

Got the four animals with it, maxed 5 facilities now. Guess I gotta grind out materials for the last three before I get to actually start weapon tempering.

Anyone else had an issue where enemy officers just disappear completely? , I just re played He Fei as Wei and the 2 reinforcement officers for Wu Han Dang and Ding Feng, completely disappeared from the map and there's nothing in the battle log to say Yue Jin defeated them, I'm playing as Zhang Liao btw

I had certain glitches where enemy officers glitched from the castle to beneath the stage so yeah it happens =/, heard the Japanese version was even more glitchier, but since fixed, maybe. As long as it doesn't cause the stage unbeatable should be manageable.
Oh and congrats on getting a tag before even becoming a full member lol.

Glitching how? The mission is basically escort it till the emperor goes missing in the fog and then lead him to the escape area.
The carriage never actually reaches the fog it always seems to stop somewhere along the way. I've killed every boss/enemy on the map and it won't move, the horses feet appear stuck in the terrain. cao cao just stands next to it and every one else just stands around as well.
