nintendos official press release to the hardcore

Yep.

Well, I never thought I'd find a thread with more drama than the VC discussion. Wiis in garbage bins? Awesome!

Hey...did anyone watch nintendo's conference last year? It was the same thing, so why are we all shocked? As long as mainstream media is there, that is who they court.

Look at Wario Land: it was debuted in a gaming magazine, mentioned in a press release, and not discussed at e3. I don't think Nintendo has given up on games for gamers per se, I just don't think E3 is the venue for it like some people hope.

Don't got me wrong, I was surprised at how boring it was, I just don't know why I expected anything else.

So are the drums the only instruments that aren't a mash-fest? It looked like the hands were moving with what Ravi did, but I'm not sure.

I think this has more to do with fuckwits at MS and Sony pricing themselves out of the market. Not only did higher prices limit the userbase for the systems, but it made games much more expensive to make. Notice all the mergers going on? The buyouts? The companies failing over the last 6 years? That's not a good sign.

Yeah, its a couple other factors, as well. But I like to blame Nintendo the most, for obvious reasons.

But mostly because their games are shit.

I ALMOST halway thought about buying a Wii the other day when I saw one in Wal-Mart for the first time in my life.

:lol I'm glad I decided to stick with systems that have real games coming out in the future.

Right (rolls eyes). Anyway, I'm sure the person who picked it up will enjoy it 1000 times more than a hardened hard-core gamer like yourself.

It let's you simulate music? It just seems more game-y to me than Wii Fit, which I see as one of those fitness DVDs plus a peripheral.
You wave the Wiimote around randomly like an idiot while the "game" plays a MIDI song. It requires no fucking skill whatsoever.

Calling it a Fisher Price toy is a completely OTM description.

Check out the Madworld thread. Nintendo am redeemed. As I said earlier, Nintendo is scared of showing it's hardcore games to the mainstream press.

People fail to realize the reality of Game development prices etc. Not every development studio has sony/microsoft waving them a 50 million dollar check to make sure even if it flops they stay in operation.

I think it's a pretty serious topic that warrants some good discussion. I believe all the casual vs. hardcore stuff is a load of horseshit. Sure, it's there, but it's not the main cause for the shrinking hardcore base. Hardcore is killing itself off and has been since the beginning of this generation. I think we're reaching a point where the third party situation as a whole needs some evaluation. Unfortunately, this is GAF and the topic would end up with lists for the DS and PSP for some godforsaken reason.

You mean like when Reggie said that fucking AC was for hardcore gamers, right?

The part that upsets people is that THIS is the face they are trying to put out there now. That the hardcore gamer community is reliable enough that we'll take whateverthefuck they decide to throw to us, when they feel like it. The old 'You got your 3 fucking games be happy' isn't good enough, sorry.
But you will... let's be honest. Also, it's not like more than the classic 3 aren't coming it's just a matter of when, and this time around, there should be a good amount of 3rd party offerings in between the releases to keep the hardcore happy. It's time to quit the belly-aching and come to terms with Nintendo's new face. Sales will spur third parties, which we ARE seeing, and Nintendo will maintain the usual IP with an occasional new one, that's a good bit more than last gen, which was bereft of third party support.

So when is Nintendo going to get their shit together and announce Pikmin 3?
Hell, I'd be satisfied with a port of Pikmin 2 updated with some extra mission and Wiimote support.

Iwata did mention that the Mario and Zelda teams were working on "hardcore" games or something like that right? Hopefully one or the other is doing a new IP... :(

I think that we've seen the breadth of Nintendo's new IPs. :(

Am i the only one disappointed that Wii Orchestra/Music turned into what it did?

No. I'm not sure if it ever was much of a game, unfortunately. What did we see of it before? Just quick glimpses.

I just don't see the point of the game. This is something that should have come out before Guitar Hero et all, if ever. Now it just seems primative.

The good thing is that we don't have to buy it.

Anyway, other than hearing about AC and the Wii Sports follow up and Rhythm Heaven on DS, I can honestly say this was a snooze of a conference. Cammy (or whatever her name is) should never appear on stage again for Nintendo. Nor should Nintendo use its far-too-rare conference appearances to show off shitty 3rd party titles we already know about. Pikmin 3 and whatever else they have stashed away in their closet would have been much better.

Oh, well, I'm still glad they confirmed AC and a new Wii Sports :)

This isnt a new market or genre of gaming, the PARADIGM has shifted.

In 10 years we wont see anymore Ninja Gaiden, Halo, or Final Fantasy. The titles we currently enjoy will be put on gaming development's financial back-burner and fade into niche obscurity like fighting games, top-down shooters and PC-adventure of the past decade.

:lol :lol :lol
What utter rubbish. There will always be products to cater for a certain market.

yes I think part of the problem was the slow clapping by the audience, you contrast that to the infamous 2004 zelda tp announcement with miyamoto coming out at the end with everyone wooping and hollering.

I definately think that having another big press event, but more impactful for the hardcore ie Spaceworld held in Japan, could showcase what we really want to see and keep everyone happy.

i wanted to get really excited but it was lame

I dont know whether its something deeper thats wrong with their attitude because actually the voice chat thingie is a big step forward towards a real online service but I dont trust their delivery on it. Now they could earn +10 points from me if they deliver that call of duty game with full voice chat and online ranking tables and features to match cod4, obviously we've got to take a hit on the graphics (which I'm not all happy about ) but yeah, i'd be pleased with that.

BETRAYALTON - DAY TWO

Seriously though, some of you need to get a grip.

I'll say this though. That Nintendo Power teaser seems even more intriguing to me now.

He actually said they are working on titles on the Wii to boot.

It was actually the sword for Wii Sports Resort.

Though I swear to god, this is just like last year.

Hardcore gamers didn't support the Big N when they were losing market share generation after generation and on the brink of home console extinction, regardless of the Goldeneyes, the Mario 64s, the Orcarina of Time's, the Wind Wakers, the RE4s, etc. At what point does a company or even a person decide to say "Fuck it" after putting out great effort to please someone only to get neglected time and time again?

You have to earn the support time and time again. I mean let's not get dramatic here. It's all about (perceived) value for money. (most of the time) I am not gonna spend money on something that doesn't offer value for me.

Personally I believe that Nintendo from the very beginning always made a sh*tload of money out of this industry - albeit a difficult start off during the Atari reign. But don't forget they always ruled the portable market big time. Nintendo never was going anywhere even if the N64 and GameCube are considered a little less succesful - however I doubt that one can call both consoles less succesfull, both of them sold enough to make a descent profit.

It's more the fact that third party support lessened. So it all just looked a little pale maybe. Nintendo however makes their own games. And where we saw third party publishers - like square - enix - going playstation then, we see it happen again today.
The imho better developers leaning more to 360. And where Nintendo has very strong game ip's themselves. Sony is a little weaker.

I really don't think that anyone at Ninty said the f word. They came up with this business model and decided to go for it. The Wii is basically very much what Ninty has always been doing in handheld market - in a kinda philosophical business model kinda way. The Wii is the DS for the home console market. And that's great. With their back catalog, gamers of all generations will always be drawn back to Nintendo.

But will Nintendo in the future ever go head to head with games like Gears of War or GT5? Or the various services that are part of psn or live? I don't know. I for one am very curious how long the Wii wil last.

That said I am gonna get me Chrono Trigger day one on DS!

I see you've played it. Well don't mind me then.

Like no one saw this coming? :P Ive never been a fan of the Wii for this reason. I dont care about systems, I play the systems that have the games I like. The Wii has been a disappointment for me since the beginning. I know people love it and thats great. Good for them, but every gamer friend I know slowly has had it just become a novelty for when their family is over. It had a few games that have appealed to me, but honestly I still prefer the old way with a traditional controller.

I love alot of nintendo games but they took a different direction from the start with the Wii. I knew it wasnt a system with me in mind soon after I bought it. Its casual market now, which sucks for me since I dont care for those games. Im sorry to see people so surprised by all this.

Nintendo is right on strategy for the demographic they target now, unfortunately its not us anymore. We still have the Xbox360 and PS3 to put some hope into. Although I was kinda freaked to see the avatar thing yesterday, but I will wait and pass judgement when the update goes live. God knows what the hell will happen tomorrow with Sony.

Wow, I was thinking about cutting out of class early to watch the conference live instead of recorded :lol . Looks like I made the right decision (not that the conference sucking or not would have changed that). Well Animal Crossing news is always awesome, GTA: DS came out of no where, motion plus looks like it works really well (just need to see more games), and CoD:WaW looked really good though I'm not terribly interested in FPS'. So not everything I wanted but decent for what it was. Besides, I'll know within hours whenever new info is released about MadWorld, LKS, Zelda, FFCC, Fatal Frame IV, Fragile, Retro's game, F5's game, Pikmin3, etc regardless of when Nintendo releases it.

Every year... :lol ..same reactions..oh well..
Though,, the only thing I was expecting was Animal Crossing..but it was because in this silly mind of mine, I was expecting it to look like..Mario Galaxy..but it didn't.. :/ ..oh well..

I may be wrong but i don't think what they showed this year will have the same effect on even the casuals that Wii Sports/Wii Fit did so the people whining about hardcore gamers cannibalizing themselves because they didn't like this stuff really don't have a leg to stand on here.
