You mean the technological advancement science fiction has been teasing the public with for decades? Gee, I wonder why people would be interested?

Seriously, I don't understand why anyone would NOT be intrigued by this.

Count me in there too. But the question is where's the market, not where's the intrigue. I'm not harking on the possibilities, just saying I don't see it catching on. I can't wait to play on one, but I have no idea how they pull in enough people to make it a sustainable product.

Hell, the 3D movie/HDTV fad is almost done already, and it was a much cheaper buy in and must less obtrusive tech to the user.

Let's hope I'm wrong. But I don't see how.

Morpheus will be interwoven throughout the conference. They will point out which are compatible with Morpheus. The Show floor will be the main focus.

The big show for Morpheus will be at GamesCom which will be open to the public.

Anyone think we're going to see something from Sucker Punch? Been a while since Second Son/First Light. On the other hand they could be saved for PSX.

It will be next year at the earliest. They only released Second Son 15 months ago.

Yeeeeeees.
See the full article before ranting.

YEEEEEEES

Yep, thought so.

Sony is going to do with Morpheus as it does with the Playstation. First party support, big money push. Pretty much the opposite of Vita lol.

Can't wait. I mean if the software is there for the Morpheus I will seriously consider a purchase despite my disdain for v1.0 of new types of hardware.

3D had been done before and was never a big draw.

VR is the next natural evolution of entertainment. It's going to be huge over the next decade. The key will be making it available to try, which will admittedly be difficult.

Anyone think the Morpheus will launch with a external kit that will give the PS4 a boost in hardware to run the games? Seems like the only way they will achieve the resolution and framerate needed. I am not even sure that is possible or is it?

The problem with pushing VR technology is a double edge sword.

It will give the product more exposure to the general public while generating marketing feedback on how to cater to the larger audience. This is great for Sony; as they could access the ability of this product for the general audience.

While catering to the hardcore gaming audience who will the be first adopters of these type of technology.

A the same time, this will reduce the time dedicated to other games and showing the highlights of the technology through games. Hence the notion of the double edge sword.

Now ace would if Sony is able execute the demonstration with both the technology for not being inclusive but by bringing in the gaming community through it games. Then that would be the game changer for this type of technology.

Well if anyone has the time to talk about VR on stage it is Sony, their conferences are already a half hour longer than anyone else. Also I think they are being smarter about launching this device than Move and are having WWS developers make games from the ground up, including Media Molecule and Studio London and I think it is a forgone conclusion that No Man's Sky launches with Morpheus support and I bet The Witness will as well. So they will definitely have games to show for it.

That's my fear pouring resources like WWS studios into it when it is a fad, talking time and resources away from core games. I want it to do well but I am skeptical VR will take off at all.

But if the price is too high at launch, nobody will buy it and thus developers won't support it in the future. I really don't think VR is going to become big.

Supposedly it won't be at any press conferences, but I imagine it'll be on the show floor.

399 is not much at all imo. Not in todays world of 700 phones. I am skeptical myself but price is not bad if the content is there, big if. 399 in 2015 is not much.

Got a feeling sony is going to spend way too much time on morpheus and not enough on core games. I think they should show morpheus at a seperate event not e3 at least not a lot at e3. Sony is making a mistake here imo.

Err...not really. They have to mention it since it's coming out in the first half of next year. There's no way they're going to ignore their upcoming gaming product at the most important gaming event. Their E3 conference are normally 2 hours, right? Let's say they do the unlikely and spend 30 minutes on Morpheus.

You now have 90 minutes left for everything else. Any time spend on Morpheus wouldn't be replaced by new game announcements (They spread announcements for other events: Paris, TGS, PSX), it would be used to show more individual trailers and more gameplay demonstrations. Basically, something you would already see on Youtube or on stream after the press conferences are over.

I am so excited for this. I took the week off for e3 live streams in the middle of the night and Swedish Midsummer Eve celebrations. My body is ready!

For an accessory its a lot. It won't work with everything. Remember how much shit xbox one got for the $500 tag with Kinect?

The product won't work standalone, thus your all in cost is much more than $399 to use the product.

I think it is for the average consumer. If they don't already have a PS4, then it'll be at least a $700 dollar investment just to experience VR.

I think it's a fad in its current form based on the very safe assumption that the overwhelming majority of consumers will not want to strap a device to their face to consume media.

I've been a hardcore gamer for over 30 years and even I don't want to strap a device to my face to consume media - no matter how awesome it is. I can't imagine there being this mass craving for it in the general population - most of whom don't even have the hardware required to use such a device yet.

Thankfully, it seems only Sony London and Japan appear to be devoting notable resources to Morpheus development. Japan will continue to make traditional games, and London hasn't made anything notable in almost a decade.

There's also that new studio Sony set up specifically for VR. I don't think we need to worry about guys like Naughty Dog and Guerrilla devoting time to it.

Fair enough but I think sony sees it as being a thing they are pushing to the pS4 userbase at first. As the user base grows so does the potential for Morpheus. That's why we see a price drop this year.

I bet most calling it a fad have never tried it...I don't think it is fair to call it a fad this early, from all reports it really is awesome once you try it, have an open mind people. After saying that e3 is not the place imo to focus too much on it......i'd rather a seperate event to unveal morpheus.
I have tried it! It can be really cool with the right software--Lucky's Tale, for example, is absolutely stunning. But who is going to actually use a VR headset as part of their regular gaming habits, especially when A) the hardware is expensive; B) the market is fragmented; and C) it shuts you out from the rest of the world?

Well, from a spectator stand point, I am not thrilled by this Morpheus thing as I will not be able to experience it as it should. If it's half of the show, eww...

If it was the case ps3 would have never sold more then 80 millions.
First hardcore gamers will buy it no matter how much it cost and devs will support it moderately then when the price go down more peoples will buy it and devs will start to support it much better

The PS3 is a videogame console that gives you access to every single game released on that system. Morpheous is an optional experience that is only compatible with certain games. There is a huge difference here and price will play a big part in its success or failure.

600$ is expensive for a video games console and a console don't start with a hundred of games

That certainly is a concern for sure, I bet MM's game can be played either way, but from a creative and playing standpoint it will be best on Morpeus. I imagine MM is building one the best playsets anyone has ever concocted and there will be options out the wazoo for creatives and players alike to dive into it.

If everything stays on track early 2016 is looking amazing if you're a ps4 owner. UC4, ratchet, SFV, and Dark Souls 3.

Oh I bet Sony is showing off everything early so they can only focus on Morpheus and Powers.......

Kidding of course

C isn't a problem. All Sony needs to do is make HomeVR social app for PS4 with micro transactions and let the profits rain down.

/sort of serious

Hey man if hundreds of games can release in a matter of two months in the holidays, then spreading that out in the first 6 months of the year is fine by me. Spring of course is considered Q2, April-June.
