Why are there people excited for Nintendo's conference? I thought they don't have one, just their normal online streaming stuff?

Nintendo Direct threads amass more hype than some typical E3 conferences. Hell, plenty of people prefer the format since it makes for a more polished viewing experience.

No way is Nintendo's going to be as good as last years but they should still have a few new games there.

I know I'm going to regret ranking EA's so high, their conferences always disappoint, but I need more Mirror's Edge.

I'm not expecting many surprises from Microsoft's. Gears 4, Gears Remastered, Rare's new IP, Twisted Pixel's new game (probably Battletoads) and maybe one or two new small first party games are about the extent of things. I'm sure there'll be a couple new timed exclusive indies there too.

PC Gamer's conference, I think, will be a big pile of nothing. Maybe one indie announcement but mostly just talking and showing games we already knew about.

And as for Ubisoft, it's hard to be enthusiastic for more towers, collectables and open worlds. I just don't care anymore. Maybe we'll get a couple of interesting UbiArt games out of it. Maybe.

I'm mostly curious what Nintendo will show off. They are the only ones that I don't know what they could show. Since the others have stuff I would expect. Either way these days are taking even longer now.

I can't wait.

I dunno... because they announce games?

P.S. Yet to be updated with Mario & Sonic in Rio 2016.

I just want another amazing MGS trailer.

I need to get hyped for this game again

Yeah, why are they excited for Nintendo who wiped the floor with everybody else last year

(Live or not, they will still announce games, have no major leaks so far and are generally speaking unpredictable)

Even in 2013, despite their competitors practically having that advantage of the 'console launch E3', they had a pretty damn strong announcement slate, announcing a new 3D Mario, new Mario Kart & new Smash Bros.

And technically we got first look at XenobladeX at E3, so 3 flagship IPs with limited releases a generation, and massive JRPG announcement.

I don't know if this has been posted yet.

I predict that Bethesda will reveal The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim Legendary edition for PS4 and Xbox One (they will use the same "legendary" title again)

- It will run at 1080p 60fps with improved lighting and textures from the pc version
- It will include all the DLC packs and some exclusive item/s for The ESO
- The release date will be November 11th 2015

This makes perfect sense for bethesda as the current gen consoles are basically PC's so porting the pc version over should be alot cheaper and quicker than it use to be to port games to the last gen consoles, which in turn means:

Amazing Game + Low cost + Quick Development = Large Profit

the trailers looked very good last year and I'm hoping for gameplay this time around. maybe it'll show off something that'll catch my attention and have MGS be a must-play for me

Nintendo's performance last year overall almost can't be matched. They had one of the best lineups of any console in recent memory (four of my top five games of 2014 were on WiiU), and that contributed to a damn fine E3 showing. Including the unexpected bliss announcements like Mario Maker, StarFox, Captain Toad, and Kirby. Oh, and the grand Treehouse streams. Throw that Zelda teaser on top, and it is a beautiful sundae of E3 delight.

They keep announcing pretty good games, and yet, people say they don't sell well.
Why is that? x.x

Serious question.

The pessimism surrounding the lead-up to last year's E3 for Nintendo was hilarious.

Because they don't? They have a console that appeals to a niche of Nintendo fans but has very little mainstream mass market appeal, with horrid marketing.

Because the fact is that they don't sell well.

And why? This is a loaded question, but I guess that a first-party machine alone cannot sustain itself in a market that's dominated by annualised 3rd-party major franchises.

Makes sense and the game is still popular, but if the F4 2015 release date is correct than this has to happen sooner than later.

In hindsight, maybe, but at the time there was a pretty good reason for it. Their first attempt at a digital conference in 2013 was a bad joke, so everyone expected more of the same.

The execution was lacking, but strictly looking at announcements, ignoring the 'amount of content shown' and 'how it was shown', it was a good slate, imo.

But how will they beat robot chicken awesome sketches ????

2013 Nintendo was tops for me. Looking at their announcements list, even their directs were more to my taste. Hyrule Warriors, SMTxFE, Xenoblade X, SSB Wii U. I understand why people were excited in 2014, but outside of Zelda, I didn't really care about most of the announcements. Hope they can blow me away, but I'm not sure what they'd bring to do so.

For me it is the following:
1. Nintendo: They have been consistently been really good with announcements and while I don't expect a lot of third party stuff, I have a lot of excitement for their upcoming games like Star Fox and Mario Maker alongside things I really hope happen (another Sonic game on the level of Colors/Generations, KI: Uprising 2 and I hope a Metroid game).
2. Square: I only list them here as I fully expect news on KH3, and that game is the only PS4 game (alongside FFXV and Ratchet) will push me into getting one. Hope we see a trailer showing off a few of its worlds :).
3. Microsoft: Have high hopes for some announcements about Rare, as they have been hinting at Battletoads and Banjo for quite a while now. Really want them to announce a new Battletoads, Banjo Remake and even a new IP having that classic Rare charm :).
4. Sony: I would love to list them higher, but I don't know what to expect; a boring conference themed around games we are all expecting from third parties or them finally letting us know what their internal studios are? Either way, we will be seeing new things if either case happens, so that would be nice :).
Expect nothing on the Vita, so I will not be upset about that like last E3.
5. Ubisoft: Would love another Rayman tittle or Prince of Persia game, and with the latter potentially happening if the rumors are true, can't wait to see that :D! They always announce some new IP's too and while I have my cynical view point on how they present their games (bullshot/E3 Demo never looking like the finished game), it still is nice seeing them.
6. Bethesda: Not a big fan of their IP's, but I would love to see Doom being shown off, what they might be doing with Fallout 4 and (I hope at least :l) they present a new version of Prey 2 (I know their are reports of the Dishonored developers working on it after Human Head was kicked off the project :(). Adam and Morgan hosting the show alone is making looking forward to seeing this though :).
7. EA: Wondering how they are doing with both Mirrors Edge 2 and Battlefront, so it should be nice seeing those shown off :). Other then that....nothing more to say I guess :l; not a huge fan of their series (though I do wonder if we will see Viscerals Star Wars game at E3....).
8. PC: Don't play games on PC, so I can't say much here :l. Just hope that we get some new policies announced for Steam that helps hide the bad games, some refinements to the Greenlight system and what they plan to do with the Steam Machines.

Motherfucker. Now if that doesn't happen, I'll be pissed.

Reggie murdering a guy for bringing up Mother 3 was a moment of self-aware brilliance that Nintendo has never touched before.

Got it. Great announcements but still too niche for the mainstream market.
Possibly I'm part of that type of market.

I want to buy an WiiU and have a 3DS, but, I don't feel excited about their announcements.
I feel happy and know it will be fun, but the titles that appeal to me from them are most to have simple good fun, like: Mario 3D, Mario Party, Mario Kart, The Wonderful 101...

The fun part is that it took the same whole as Wii(right?) and I was expecting it to sell good as well(I think Nintendo too hehe). So, why didn't it? The formula was basically the same... Or that was the problem and most people didn't bother to buy the "new Wii"? x.x

The Wii had mass market appeal. Motion controls were new and fresh and Wii Sports was a cultural phenomenon. The Gamepad doesn't really provide an experience that people didn't have before, and instead it's mostly a half-assed attempt at appealing to the tablet crowd. It does have some good functionality for core Nintendo games (it's a comfy controller and just having a map on screen is nifty), but that doesn't really amount to much.

I think the main issue with the Wii U was the lingering issue regarding Nintendo and 3rd Parties finally rearing its ugly head and they flat out ditched Nintendo outside of a select few (Namco Bandi, Sega, WB, Ubisoft, ect). That alongside some confusing marketing (many still thought that the Wii U was just a Wii, even some stores throught this when pushing the thing X() and lack of major 3rd parties really cemented the system into where the Vita is; a place for quality tittles but not being enough to be a sure fire hit.

The big difference between that and the Vita is that Nintendo really pushes the console, as last year was when Nintendo 'got' it, leading to a solid stream of tittles like Mario Kart 8, its DLC packs, Hyrule Warriors and its DLC, Smash Bros., the Amiibo, Kirby's Canvas Cruse, Splatoon, Captian Toad and indie tittles to boot.

Now Nintendo is in a good spot; they are making the best of a bad situation (Wii U's public failure saleswise) and they now have a steady stream of support from loyal fans who got the system. That alongside positive press with how Nintendo deals with DLC and how they are currently known to have the strongest line up of first party tittles compared to Sony and Microsoft, many see the Wii U as a good system :).

Will it get better sales wise? I think it could reach GameCube sales by the end of its life time, but it will never be the hit that the Wii was sadly :l.

You know, in a certain way I'm almost equally hyped for ALL of the conferences this year. For different reasons.

Nintendo - My main fling. Whatever happens here, I'm almost guaranteed to be on board for. Even more exciting is how much we DON'T know about it. Maybe Retro's new thing is here! Maybe Metroid's got a comeback in it! Maybe they're making Tetris Amiibo! Literally anything is possible, which is what makes it so exciting.

Microsoft - My side-bitch, as it were. Honestly, I think I picked up a ONE entirely based on their E3 showing last year. The promise of Tomb Raider, Crackdown, Cuphead, and more were all super exciting - I really want to see how those cards play out.

Sony - The flirty girl next door. Since they seem to be snatching up every exclusive marketing agreement on the books, Sony seems like it'll be this year's official third party showcase, plus the resolution of GAF's countless bets on TLG & other Sony exclusives.

EA - That girl who was really nice back in High School, became a stone-cold bitch shortly after, but has since been showing a sweeter side. Cautious optimism defines this conference. Mirror's Edge 2, Visceral's Star Wars, Criterion's new thing, and new BioWare IP could all be my game of E3. At the same time, they could bury me in sports nonsense & downright evil business practices. I'm scared. And excited.

Square - The girl who I think I might love, but keeps dating total pricks. Square, you hold the keys to some of last gen's most exciting properties. Sleeping Dogs, Deus Ex, Hitman, Just Cause, and more. So PLEASE stop trying to shove those keys into doors that don't fit them (mobile, F2P), or trying to open my door with the shitty Japaneese keys that haven't done the job in a decade and holy shit this sub-metaphor has gotten out of hand.

Bethesda - The girl everyone won't shut up about. With some of the biggest, most impressive assets to show. Fallout 4. Doom. Dishonored 2, probably. It's gonna be a hot, hot show.

Ubisoft - The drunk mess. Oh Ubisoft. There are plenty of companies who I will watch for genuine hype - only to revel in their stupid ironic value. You are the only one I watch in active search of trainwrecks. Bring out another dance game, years after the fad has died. Get some wierd-ass lazer tag clone out there. Bring James Cameron on stage to talk for literally half an hour about something. Then top it all off with some absurdly ambitious title that everybody knows will fall flat on its' damn face at launch. (Yet despite all this, I'm enjoying Black Flag & think Seige might be dope. But still, I'm coming for the cringe).

PC Gaming Showcase - The new drunk mess. A total unknown - three hours of conference for a random assortment of publishers and indies - without the presence of the one company that actually unites them (Blizzard exempt). I'm walking in expecting a disaster, yet the unknown element means my GOTY could be buried in this dumb thing.

So accurate it's (almost) not even funny.

Got it. Two good points.
Sometimes innovation is good, sometimes not. But when you innovate, you must make people experience it.
I'm assuming Nintendo did some kind of job with Wii motion controllers in that area. And did it great.
I saw a huge backslash in the beging of VR presentations(still in the beging of it's life :P), and I think people need to go the same way(Verendus said that not to long ago).

Back to WiiU.
Yup. At the begin, a lot of people got confused about the 2 consoles and the lack of games, the joke turned around for PS4 a bit(even more with EMAGON hehe), and got back. Now as you've already said is doing the right thing.

Soo... Ok. Thank you for all this information and conversation :)

Honestly, the only conference I'm interested in is Sony's. They have so much to potentially reveal. And frankly, I never owned an XBox console and haven't bought a Nintendo handheld since the DS.

Disclaimer: I still try to be neutral in discussions, in case you get any ideas :P

I actually suspect this will be a Nintendo off year and people should temper their expectations accordingly.

I'm expecting the conference to basically be them attempting to do last year again but they won't have enough meaningful announcements to make it that good.

Basically I think it'll be an "off year," in the sense that they won't really have many meaningful announcements but they'll still put on a good show. When I think of "off year," and Nintendo I think of 2008, 2011, and 2012 and I can't see them doing something like that just by virtue of having the direct format.

You got a direct source for this? Because I'm pretty sure nothing like this has been said.

Bill Trinen Says There’s No Main Mario Game Launching This Year

Mario games release more frequently but we don’t have a new Mario game this year so it’s not an annual event. The teams focus on how they can recreate the gameplay experience or introduce new ideas to those games, which is what they did with NES Remix, for example.

Miyamoto Confirms Work Underway on New Nintendo Consoles

"Since we first created Mario, people have compared him to Mickey Mouse. I've always said Mickey Mouse evolved with each evolution in animation. You saw Mickey Mouse each step of the way," he said.

"From early on, I wanted Mario to be that character in the digital world, so that with each digital evolution, he was there to usher in the next era. I think that maybe when we release the next hardware system, you can look forward to seeing Mario take on a new role or in a new game."

Yup. The only big surprise I can see happening is Retro, but other than that I think it's safe to assume that next year is much more important to them with Zelda and NX to show.

1. Microsoft- Halo Wars 2, Scalebound, and I really want to see TP's "AAA" game. For such a small studio to be working on one
