You can dislike PlatinumGames all you want people but claiming they are overrated or not good is just plain wrong if you look at the review scores their major games are getting.

But yeah, as always the PlatinumTurnaround will happen once they'll release their first major game on the PS4.

No I'm pretty sure that's the definition of overrated: getting higher scores than one deserves.

If they announce a release date, when do you think No Man's Sky will release? Anything prior November seems unlikely, but that month is hella packed, and in December they'd lose PSN Black Friday sales.

We'll work with anyone since we're always on our knees.

Sony's a slut confirmed.

This must be wrong. It's regarded as one of the best TPS ever made by those who actually played it.

Who are these people that don't like it?

Don't know about the afterwards, but on release i saw a lot of reviews and people complaining how repetitive was vanquish and boring because of that.

I urged to disagree but was always pushed back by almost everyone.

No I'm pretty sure that's the definition of overrated: getting higher scores than one deserves.

I'm not that hyped for Fallout 4, personally.

But it's hard to deny that 'open-world' has won.

Yeah, but I'm not happy with that as they often have shallow as fuck mechanics (as well as a host of other design problems). I like tight levels design and rich gameplay mechanics, and as such love companies like Platinum, Nintendo and From. And many indies that harken back to the games I grew up with.

As an aside, Wonderful 101 is great, haters.

So yeah, to go back to E3, it's another reason I hope Itagaki still has an awesome combat system in him and why I greatly anticipate new Devil's Third footage.

Oh, Verendus is back! Bump #2 in case you missed my post:

Was about to ask the same question. Would love to know a bit more.
I still wonder where the "summon traversal" FF prototype you talked about in '13 fits in in all this. Was that canned or is it FFXVI?

Man, I really wasn't hyped much for E3 this year before you came and dropped the bombs again like in '13, Verendus :D

If you don't want to or can't answer, that's okay... :(

iirc he said that FFXVI is in full production since early 2014. That also fits with Kitase statement from the past when he said, the gap betweem 15 and 16 will be much smaller than last gen.

2016 Final Fantasy 15
2017 Announcement of 16
2018 Final Fantasy 16?

I know it's early and all but I can't wait for this to happen one day; looks really good.

What are you implying here? That it's only Sony fans who are disappointed with some of their output?

What? A lot of the games they are doing have been on PlayStation systems already; I'm saying that once they get the chance to do something more tailored around the system and that showcases their strengths a lot of people will realize why they are as popular as they are; Bayonetta 2 + W101 have been such a cases and I'm certain Scalebound will be pretty good as too with Kamiya leading the ship.

I just mentioned the PS4 because that's the most relevant console right now that I assume almost everybody in this thread has and the one that doesn't have a exclusive PlatinumGame right now right?
Right?

And yeah, not saying everybody should love PlatinumGames and ignore all their bad output, but gotta respect their talent.

No I'm pretty sure that's the definition of overrated: getting higher scores than one deserves.

Lemme guess, when the same outlets give out good reviews to games you prefer it's the exact opposite :)

Socom 5 PS4 is coming!! Here's why:

1. David Sears (father of socom) leaves his kickstarter Socom spiritual successor project H-Hour.

2. Sears reappears as Creative Director at Edge of Reality while saying that the company is working on something other than Loadout.

3. Shu told us Socom isn't dead!!

4. They need somebody to make it, so why not EoR?!

5. Okay this is most likely fantasy and delusion, but you never know!!!

Platinum make real nice games I am happy to see pop up on PS+ but there is no way I would ever pay $60 for a 4 or 5 hour game like MGR or Vanquish.

Bayo is the only game they made that is worth the money.

Amazing: Vanquish, Bayonetta 2
Good: Metal Gear Rising, Madworld, Wonderful 101
Overrated (but still good): Bayonetta

In the current industry, they couldn't possibly be overrated. Although, I still love them most for the Clover Studios output. God Hand and Okami (hopefully they'll do something other than character action again) are god tier and Viewtiful Joe was pretty nice too.

The reason that Sony hasnt appoached Platinum game is understandable. Their games do not sell systems, beside maybe MGR.

But, 4 teh players? :(

For me they're extremely replayable exactly because they're not too lengthy and have really fun mechanics and often tons of extra content.

Though I wouldn't be surprised if Scalebound is a bigger game.

At this point I just can't wait to find out what kind of game it is period.

Platinum is awesome. Vanquish is one of the best games ever made.

I like this fantasy world, and would like to live there full time. (New SOCOM would be awesome, and tbh H-Hour still looks pretty rough).

I imagine having the best selling IP in the genre for the last decade is the main reason. They fund plenty of obviously niche games.

A SSM + Platinum collaboration on GOW (or a new IP if they're willing to do it) would be pretty cool. The best of both worlds all in one game.

He "downplays" everyone, and everything all the time.

Except for the 3DS since it has become a travel companion on some of his lonely business trips, and so has earned an esteemed place by his side.
I fixed that up a little.

Also, mobile is great. Internet, music, games, movies, applications, there's not a thing it can't do. Love it or hate it, you've got to respect the ability of the Mobile Gaming Universe.

Plenty of people here have played previous Platinum works on the 360/PS3, so they've had a lot of experience to form their opinions. Making a game on the PS4 doesn't necessarily mean it'd very different from their previous output, since SCE really has a hands-off approach to a lot of things they fund. It just came across that you were making a snide remark, but obviously, my apologies if that's not the case. Granted, I wasn't really being serious in return. But you do seem like one of those Daniel Bryan fans.

Anyway, I imagine Scalebound is their best shot at making a really good impact. I would think Microsoft would be on top of making sure it's a project that has good appeal worldwide, and is strong in several areas. I have higher expectations for that simply because Microsoft is involved. I wouldn't honestly have that if SCE was in that position, simply because I doubt they'd be as involved. Although, Microsoft making more of an effort is only an assumption. Maybe they're pretty hands-off too with them.

And so we find ourselves back at square one.

They shit.

Regardless of the questionable taste demonstrated by many of you, I'm doubling down on Platinum. One of the best developers in the world.

It's very easy to play Monday morning Quarterback. Had those titles been successful this would not even be a conversation. Platinum is not a completely flawless studio they have a few flops as well. Hideki himself has had flops.

It would still be a conversation because those games would still be shit and I'd still feel the same way. Driveclub excepted, as I haven't played that. And yeah, Platinum has made some bad games. MadWorld is boring. Anarchy Reigns is dog crap. As I previously stated, Korra is a nightmare. But man, when they hit, they blow everyone else away.

Maybe you should create a time machine, go back 3-4 years and tell Sony that they should close Evolution and Japan Studio down and fire hundreds of employees because while you didn't play their games, you didn't hear good things about them. Then you should tell them that they should fund games from Platinum and some other developers that you can't think of right now, but would be TOTALLY better. That'd work.

I like Platinum and I hope they continue getting signed despite their games selling like shit, but god, their fanbase is unbearable.

If I had a time machine, I wouldn't waste its mighty powers telling Sony what to do. I'd make vague teases on GAF about what video games are coming out.

Let's talk about Japan Studios. "I didn't hear good things about them?" No, I played Knack, that is to say I suffered the indignity of playing Knack. It fucking sucks. It had to be obvious during development that it was not at all good. And no, I don't want these people fired; I want them to make games that I like. Example: I don't like Animal Crossing. I want that team to stop and make something else. Animal Crossing team makes Splatoon. I'm happy. I would like Japan Studios to do the same thing. They probably will eventually, hopefully. Gravity Rush 2 probably exists. Hopefully it's better than the last one.

Funding. I used Platinum as an example because it was mentioned earlier in the thread. As I said, I think it's great that Sony funded a From game. They should keep doing that, and they appear to be with Bloodborne DLC. I also like that they're allegedly pushing Japanese developers to make PS4 versions of games. Great stuff. But the first party games have been weak. They need to step it up. Well, no they don't because they've sold so many consoles, but it would be nice if they stepped it up.

As for Platinum fans being unbearable, it's annoying seeing everyone ignore the most mechanically sharp games on the planet in favor of whatever games that play okay. Especially on a hardcore forum like this one. At least it has gotten better from the days of God Hand.

I'm predicting Nintendo will release an exclusive line of special Tassimo coffee pods which are also amiibos to tie in with Animal Crossing U. Now you can finally taste all of Brewster's fantastic blends in your cup as well as in the game!

People, it's easy to stop this discussion.

Platinum games do pretty good games and has flaws to.
Sony do pretty good games and has flaws to.

Other then this is just your opinion.

Reviews can be based in all sort of things, but if something sells pretty well, it's a success and you can't deny it. I don't like Justin, but it was a success.

Probably true. I hope they'll have some success with the game and that it won't be dropped like a fucking rock like Microsoft did with D4.

Something I wanted to ask you, not related to PG: I think it was you who mentioned some time ago that Demon's Souls 2 is in development. I don't know if that was sarcasm or true, but assuming that this info was true at some point: is that game still in development or is Demon's Souls 2 in reality the just leaked Dark Souls 3? Or is the just leaked Dark Souls 3 not Dark Souls 3 at all and Demon's Souls 2 instead?

Appreciated if you can spill something

Hey Verendus, I just want to know your opinion of Valkyria Chronicles

This is my roundabout way of asking if the franchise has a future and if the sega exclusive ip you talked about could be this :(

that was Bloodborne.

I'm actually wondering if FROM even still has a mecha team, or have they been folded into two teams of Souls/Blood.

Don't think that is how it works. If other artists and programmers and whatnot have stuck around since the days of Armored Core, they would just be working on the Souls projects.

I'd love a new Armored Core. Those games were great for awhile.

I think this is all valid. At the end of the day, people want what they like, and as much of it. Nothing wrong with that.

Japan Studio does have a lot of focus on it. Everyone is already aware of this, since you know they had a change in management several years ago. The big problem is, when it comes to structural changes, it takes a bit of time to get into the flow of things. The bigger the project, the longer the process. But they have already started delivering a little bit. Honestly, I hate saying this, because it's always about being patient, but just a little longer. Japan Studio can finally start showing you what is has, which is more than just digital titles. You already know. This is going to be a good generation for them, I hope. Unless they Knack themselves out. Even co-op didn't help that game that much.

Not much of an excuse can be made for first party games not delivering as hoped, especially after the high standards set in the latter half of the PS3's life. However, I think Infamous was a very solid game, and while Driveclub did stumble out of the gate, it's turned into something pretty good. The real problem is, there hasn't been anything like Uncharted, or God of War, or Gran Turismo. People want that really great game from an internal studio, but games are getting bigger, expectations are getting greater, and therefore to deliver, it takes longer. The absolute worst thing would be to get a game you have high expectations for, but it only turns out pretty good. Because with those titles, pretty good isn't enough. They end up judged differently. From a business standpoint, the risk is also greater, which means we can't afford that mistake. It really ruins a lot of things. Just delays by themselves are a huge headache, and a pain in the ass, because sometimes, a lot of things have to get looked at because of them.

Basically, this generation sucks. This is why mobile is the future! You're all behind the curve.

Probably true. I hope they'll have some success with the game and that it won't be dropped like a fucking rock like Microsoft did with D4.

Verendus is fake and knows less than Jon Snow tbh
.

I doubt you care. There's no need to pretend, it won't hurt my feelings.

The last great Hideki Kamiya was Okami, none of his other games have the same charm. I got bored with his other games.

Scalebound could be different just because I have an obsession with Dragons. But my concern is this is the first time they worked with a western publishers and Microsoft are known to be overbearing and might get a game they want not what Kamiya envisioned.

I love Souls/Blood, but hopefully those series won't be From's sole output this gen.

This is how I see it, too. I loved Bloodborne and enjoyed Dark Souls 2 despite issues as well, and suddenly Dark Souls 3 is around the corner with Bloodborne DLC coming. I know that you gotta strike the iron while it's hot, but I already felt with Bloodborne that the Souls framework needs new features possible with current gen, and I don't mean visuals.

Just hope they know what they are doing. You can see from the reactions in the DS3 thread that a lot of people feel like it's way too soon.

I doubt you care. There's no need to pretend, it won't hurt my feelings.

Discovered my dark side huh

Don't be scared though: Teases and taunts are part of the game we are playing.
Search your feelings, you know there is a connection between us.

Okami while Kamiya's best work and arguably a great game was a commercial flop. Whether Scalebound will be a hit or not is up in the air but I'd bet it will eventually be a better seller than Okami based on MS marketing power and and how hard the push the IP.

As in, never happening? Did ACV/Verdict Day do that poorly?

I love Souls/Blood, but hopefully those series won't be From's sole output this gen.

I should have said not happening anytime soon. From is currently fixated on making Souls games, so maybe they will make a new Armored in 4-5 years. Who knows?

Please God no...

And yeah I've never been into Platinum.

I personally found Vanquish boring and MGR was pretty meh.
Bayo 2 looks cool though.

Guys at this time next week. We will be getting ready to hopefully be filled with joy.

The coming week will be crazy. Tons of devs and publishers tweeting and showing pics of them arriving at E3, photos of the show floor being set up. I love the lead up to E3 each year.

Next Sunday we'll be watching the Bethesda conference which imo is a great way to kinda kick things off. Then on Monday we have the gauntlet of press conferences and I just can't wait to see what everyone has been working on.

After that we digest what we've seen and then we still have SE and Nintendo the following day. Should be tons of fun guys.
