I wonder if Ubisoft will have a new ip to show? I think sky pirates would be cool to see.

People said the same about Kinect... and we know how this ended. VR just like Kinect is a Gimmick. Publishers wont waste resources and time on it.

Kinect: new controller type that requires games to be built from the ground up for it
VR: Different type of display. Games simply need to be adapted to it.

Regardless of opinions about VR, VR should be significantly easier to develop for than the Kinect.

All doubts about VR go out the window once you try it. Its impossible to not see the potential and be excited for it once you have.
Unless it makes you sick or something.
Nothing at all like kinect or motion controls.

I would say VR is another peripheral that will fail or be a short gimmick. Similar to Kinect, Eyetoy and Move. Developers don't like to waste resources in such a small audience who bought the peripheral. If they do its usually a smaller budget game with no depth. Basically a mini game collection or a long tech demo.

I have, its nice but its a gimmick, the only reason why VR is gaining ground is because of what FB paid for Oculus so every VP and CEO wants it.

For real? A lot people don't care(even here, sadly) and think it is a dead technology even before it started. Therefore, it can be something you will really not like, but hope your opinion change one day.

Even on its begin, you can see potential on VR HMD. But if you are not impressed now, just wait. New technologies take time to be perfect, as your smartphone.

Edit: I've made a fucking huge thread about VR not long ago. If any would mind looking. Don't need to post, just read is enough.

I think VR might take longer to catch on then some may hope but I do believe it is the inevitable future. It just brings the immersion to a whole new level and as gamers, that is somehing we should strive for.

No. VR isn't going to die. It may never take off on Playstation. Hell, gaming may not even be the focus. But it's implications beyond gaming are so huge that it is going to thrive in some way or another, and hence there will absolutely be a strong audience and strong development the game dev's too will continue to take advantage of and continue developing games for VR with.

So many doubters of VR. And the comparisons to Kinect don't apply here. Two serperate products with two totally different experiences. VR will be a success in gaming and even bigger success in other industries.

I don't want to strive for it. I want it as an alternative, but VR shouldn't be the primary form of playing games. I want to see my surroundings.

Anyway, I can't wait to try it out on my PC, and in some awesome racing/space games.

I don't think games will bring vr to mainstream level, but vr tourism, vr socializing , vr museums/art galleries and vr movies can be bigger things. So if sony wants morpheus to be as big as possible they should provide all kinds of content. Vr space tourism is something I would try too. Immersion and all vr hype words do very little for me but watching science presentation in vr would be ace.

GT6 reviewed better than Forza 5.
Imagine that...

What a sweet line-up right there. Sony would indeed do well to showcase the myriad of awesome looking Japanese games making their way over here. It's too good to ignore. Even Star Ocean 5 looks pretty good if you ignore the pink-haired childhood friend with the demented face.

I've addressed this before and I don't really want to go into it again, but here's an earlier post of mine explaining why I don't want a focus on VR at E3.

Long story short, regardless of what quality the footage shown is, motion controls and a stage in front of a live audience don't mix.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to Sony's show having something for everyone again, they definitely got too western focused (for a variety of reasons last gen)

Next gen? I understand the pessimistic attitude towards Microsoft and PC gaming but are we not expecting this to start happening next week and with the release of Win 10?
oh, I dunno man, I'm actually interested in building my own PC because Win10 looks like a real substantial update, I hope it is sooner than later as I have no plans on getting X1 anytime soon. Would love to get into MS ecosystem through PC though.

What would you call the genre? Remember that it has to convey the whole 2D action platformer with exploration, secrets and backtracking.

2D Open World Exploration Action Platformer.

Nobody is debating the convinience of the term "metroidvania" (and then again, gamers who never have touched a 2d metroid or an iga castlevania won't get it), im just musing about microsoft using it since it has the name of one of their direct competitor's games in it.

If you guys still have doubts about PS Morpheus, just type in the search bar "Let's Talk About Project Morpheus" and look for my thread, it is not a gimmick with the type of games supporting it even before launch.

Fair enough. I think both can exist. I was skeptical about VR until I tried it. After I played a few demos I left with a huge shit eating grin on my face. It was like the first time I played Mario 64, which was the first (maybe not first but the best) 3D world I ever ran around in. I was just blown away and convinced that this was the future of gaming.

Immersion may sound like a hype word but that's exactly what it is. Its immersive as fuck. You actually feel like you are there inside that world, not just viewing it from the outside.

VR is a neat concept. The reason I'm skeptical it will take off in the next 3 years at the general public level is because it's just not easily accessible for gaming. All these years, even people making minimum wage would have at least 1 of the major consoles in their living room. Not just that, there's general small problems (motion sickness, prescription glasses). It's great tech best used for public entertainment centers, like an arcade, or repurposed for other industries.... and yeah, I've tried Occulus and Morpheus.

Kinect and AR are on the money though. Looking forward to see how these evolve both for gaming and other tech.

I don't know, it just seems that a lot of the detractors and non-believers of VR haven't even tried it, while most of the people who have tried it have had a really positive experience with it.

Now, I'm going to reserve judgement until I try Morpheus out, but it seems like this is a larger and more interesting deal than 3D and motion control.

And to whoever said that companies won't waste resources on it, hmmm... There's a lot of great titles already announced for Morpheus.

So, I want more Morpheus info and game announcements at Sony's conference.

Starting to feel the hype coming! Anyways, where is Gaf watching E3? The Youtube stream seems great but the IGN one has a lot of "surprises" listed, though, IGN's connection is always dropping.

Great dude. Awesome thread.
I was almost losing my mind with all those negatives posts x.x
I've done one myself too. Mine is more about trying to defend the good points about this technology in every area.

People need more VR love, and know it is an alternative, not an mandatory rule.
Even more, understand it can be pretty awesome.

I don't know if I'm being too unrealistic, but I want a direct sequel to SMT Nocturne, true ending canon. They can advertise it as "The Dark Souls of JRPGs". It's time.

Thanks guys, I can't believe the amount of negativity and comparison with Kinect or 3D. VR has a place in this world heck there are 4 major VR Platforms now with more in development. I made that thread because people keep saying the Project Morpheus doesn't have the open platform like PC and it's going to fail...well I can see 40+ developers and a Sony Studio that want to make games for it so I don't see where it's going to fail.

I've got to agree that I hate when the MS / SONY conferences spend so much time showing off non-exclusive 3'rd party games....It's like "I'm watching this conference to see what YOUR offering me as a fan of YOUR system / company...not to see what I could play on any other gaming system".

Hopefully we get some awesome exclusives announced and shown.

0%.

They'll get Horizon out there first.

This have been known all the time.

Cambridge isn't doing Horizon.

Their last game was Mercenary which released about two years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if they have been working on a new mainline KZ entry using the SF engine. I'm hoping for a surprise holiday release but that may be too soon for their size.

Agreed. I've sampled Oculus, and I've heard nothing but great things about Morpheus.

VR is going to sell a lot more than people anticipated. You heard it here first.

Classy Ubisoft.

I think they can get it sorted out. Ubisoft is (probably) upset over Kotaku leaking a lot of their stuff. The same thing happened in 2007 with Kotaku and Sony before GDC 2007 when Kotaku leaked PlayStation Home and (if I'm remembering correctly) stuff about LittleBigPlanet. Sony blacklisted them, but Brian Crecente (the then EIC), smoothed things over and all was well again. Maybe the same can happen with Ubisoft.

YouTube stream on TV through my Xbox One. Many windows open on my laptop (including GAF). Can't wait.

The fact that I know it is not real removes all immersion there is. Even bad drug trips are ruined by the fact that I know I am tripping. Btw I have tried oculus rift.

*stresses out about my wording, (don't wanna get in trouble)*

So, I'm not sure about this, but I'm getting word about something is happening in a few hours? Im sure some gaffers here on twitter know about this. Vivek and I are checking it out to see of its legitimate.

Just wanted to share with you GAF. since most of us are buddies here and I love you all.

This is nice and vague.

Any hints as to what to?

Don't worry, we won't hold it against you if it doesn't show.

LOL at comparing Kinect and VR, have you tried VR? Most knew Kinect was a gimmick the moment it was announced. If you have tried it you would not be saying this, VR is very immersive and impressive, tonnes of potential unlike kinect.
