EA announced Battlefield 6 will be revealed in June as a true next-generation game

They had all the chance to pounce on the hype now will get lost in E3

Wait. Did anyone think they would abandon a 150M+ playerbase for next-gen in spite of the crippled supply that's expected to spill over into next year? Gobsmacked.

I actually thought they would make that leap no matter how stupid it would be. They have strongly implied that it was a next gen only release, but I guess that term has lost its meaning completely by now.

"True next generation" and Cross gen dont mix and match.

Gonna be a long ass time before we get real next gen from 3rd party with all this bum ass cross gen shit.

Well what do you expect, do you not realize that we are in a shortage and it's very hard to find any next-gen console.
These games have been in development since long before the consoles even released, one cannot simply back port them. They clearly intended a cross gen release from the start, even though that wasn't clear at all in their messaging.

So does this mean that Battlefield 6 may not come to last-gen consoles, I think that is what he is implying.

That's exactly what he's implying, and it's obfuscating and outrightly lying. It's just a hyping and marketing the game. But truly you can't be a "true next-gen game" if you are NOT releasing the game exclusively on next-gen systems and PCs.

To be fair, the shortages of PS5 and Series consoles are pretty much forcing companies to go cross-gen.
What is this belief that these kind of decisions are made within in a couple of months of releasing a game?

If its crossgen, it has pretty much always been crossgen. One cannot design and build a game for several years and go "woops, console shortages" a couple of months before launch, push a button and have a version playable on last gen consoles

I thought they started development last week?

You're right.

I'm going to guess that they're made by completely different teams, current gen will be 120-ish players while last-gen stays at 64, lowest settings.

Cross-gen was to be expected.

Cross-gen playing I can't see happening at least only working one way (PS5 can play on PS4 servers, but not the other way around).

Did anyone seriously expect it to not be cross gen? Of course they are going to make sure the majority of their player base has access to the game.

The only hope that remains to have a real next gen BF on PS5 and XSX is having the last gen versions as a completely separate game, scaled back. But if the next gen version and last gen ones will share the same servers and matches (the ones within the limited player counts, obviously), then the "scaled back destruction" will be just cosmetically inferior, without any gameplay and interaction differences. And that would be just trash.
I seriously hope that they will be two different games, with a next gen version using a gameplay balanced for more complex destruction, wider maps, higher player counts, etc.

Any single damn time there's a chance to see some advancement on interaction and strategic destruction it ends with the usual useless garbage. How can be possible that I was able to use it in many useful and chirurgic ways in BBC2 on PS3 and I cannot do today?

Ffs the destruction will be scaled back to work on both gens. So disappointing. I'm actually glad gta 6 is so far away so we don't get this bullshit.
