EA website asks opinions about Next-gen Hardware

I actually see this as a potential problem for MS next gen. A big part of the reason they had such a good pipeline to US devs was the straight forward PC esque development platform (x86 + Nvidia GPU compared to Sony's more quirky EE/GS combo) to go along with their edge in power. This could happen too. XNA/ATI will help MS with PC/X360 development. Nvidia on PS3 will help PS3/PC development. We'll probably see a ton of PC/X360/PS3 games. I'm noticing many of the PC developers I like are branching off and making console games. I'm going to have to roll with the times, and accept PC gaming is going to reach Gamecube status soon (It pretty much has already). A hit every once in awhile with nothing much inbetween. Now I want get the platform of choice for PC developers who are now diving into the console arena.

Yes, I think so. but that was before they announced it for xbox, so PS2 finishing in 2nd was quite a surprise (well not too much if you count the Nbot behavior)

btw, In this case EA is asking "based in the info. that the general public(you) knows about the 3 consoles" even if you are a nintendo supporter the revolution is still a mistery, so Nintendo gaining too much votes is a fact of the nintendo blind fanatism.

People assume Nitnendo will have the same fate of declining market share that was seen from N64 >> Gamecube. But you have to realize that the Gamecube had the single worst maketing of any Nintendo console. I expect the new guy to have a hell of a better advertising strategy for the luanch of Revolution. I also expect thier pricing strategy to be a bit more competitive given that both Microsoft and Sony will likely remain at $300+ for the first year Revolution is on the market. Nintendo really screwed their pricing position by countering a $100 price drop by only $50 in May of 2002. Also, I expect the PS3 and XB3 to be even more similiar than the PS2/XBX. Nintendo, with its new interface facilitating more exclusive content, will be the conosle people look first to be thier second console.

1) I didn't bother going over to the poll itself since the title of this thread said "opinions about next-gen HARDWARE." Since practically nothing about Revolution hardware has been disclosed, how the hell could anyone have a strong opinion either way based on FACTS? (Of course, since this thread ballooned overnight, I just checked out the poll...and sure enough, the thread title is misleading. GREAT JOB.)

2) It's a really, REALLY stupid poll. For one thing, having a radio button option for console purchase -- does that mean that we all only get to buy ONE console from the next generation? And what the fuck is up with "based on what you know?" If the question had been phrased, "based on your fanboy dreams about how powerful the consoles sound on paper" or "based on the colorful Mario tattoo on your ass" or "based on the size of the check written to you in your day job as game journalist" I would have much more insight as to what the hell these numbers might mean.

3) I'm going to keep saying this until I run out of breath: Talking about future hardware which is months or years away from being actual stuff that you can buy and play is fucking pointless.

4) Oh, one more thing: I didn't have an opinion one way or the other about Nintendo fans...up until a few weeks ago. This thread, like so many others, is plenty of motivation to form an opinion. 'Nuff said.

The first Fire Emblem GBA game had a comic in Jump that ran for a year or two, and it ultimately sold less than 400,000 copies. I don't think Blue Dragon is going to be any better, honestly. It's certainly not a system seller calibur title.

But then again I don't live in Japan so I don't capture the Japanese mentality. I'll just say that i'll be really surprised that Blue Dragon lives up to its hype.

By the way,

We're topping this out around 50-51%. We don't want things to look too suspicious when EA's programers get back from Memorial Day Weekend. (EA does let its employees off for holidays, right?)
