EA website asks opinions about Next-gen Hardware

N64 cart price = $32
PS1 cd price = $1.50

Thanks for playing.

No your exactly right, but the decision to go with cd's was such an obvious choice that it's still so shocking that Nintendo went without.

It was just a case of arrogance. nintendo thought that were ever they lead, the industry would follow. But at the very least, it does show that no company is safe and that the public will not follow blindly if a company doesn't bend to its wants.

it was clear that the n64 would dominate. it was clear that the playstation would not stand a chance. it was clear that the gamecube would turn things around for nintendo. *runs* :lol

...it was clear the Sega Genesis had no chance in the face of a virtual Nintendo monopoly (my how things have changed).

It was clear that the PSP would dominate, & yet.........

Exactly, no company is ever safe despite what you armchair analysts may believe.

Oh my, what big difference 3 1/2 hours can make.

Nintendo Revolution 19%
Sony PlayStation 3 51%
Microsoft Xbox 360 29%
Total votes: 26454

by tomorrow the poll will be completely opposite thanks to fanboys spamming....#1 reason why online polls are completely useless.

The only way Microsoft is going to win this generation is if they drop the 360 moniker and name their new system the Playstation 4.

While we are wildly speculating...

PS3 may increase its marketshare. Revolution could be not a gamers machine, leaving Nintendo marketshare for the taking.

If MS don't shore up support very quickly, they run the risk of flatlining - especially if PS3 has a noticably better performance. MS can get fucked over simply by EB selling people PS3's because 'its the most powerful' - evidence or not.

Yes, MS have done a lot this gen to have developer support, but next gen they have to start pretty much all over again. Sony were a target that could be aimed at with PS2, but its the other way around, and Sony could kill them stone dead.

Not saying will, just could.

1,300 votes later...

Nintendo Revolution 23%
Sony PlayStation 3 49%
Microsoft Xbox 360 28%

Some people must be going out of their way for the poll, I can't believe that many that visit EA's site regularly would side with Rev over all, especially when it's the only console that didn't get any support announcements from EA at E3.

UPDATE: Nintendo has jsut passed Microsoft for the #2 spot....
Based on what you know, which Next Gen Console will you buy?
Nintendo Revolution
28%
Sony PlayStation 3
46%
Microsoft Xbox 360
26%
Total votes: 29572

EA forums are littered with sports fans. You generally don't own a Nintendo console if sports are your concern. This is the Gamefaqs crew making a mad dash over there.

Fixed it for you.

Is the GC what you would define as a gamer's machine? The Rev. has free online, WiFi, & whatever control scheme they present will not be at the expense of losing valuable 3rd party support. Next-gen visuals is a given, along with a wealth of IPs. While we're speculating, I don't see PS3's marketshare expanding. MS has mindshare & the confidence of 3rd parties. The Revolution must alter public perception, & if the design is any indication I would say they're well on their way.

People always say this, but it doesn't make any sense. Do you mean comparatively more mindshare than Nintendo? Because the mindshare AND confidence of 3rd parties is decidedly in Sony's favour, and I can't conceive of any angle that would make someone see otherwise. There's a small faction of Western-based developers (and a few other exceptions) that favour MS, but by and large it's all Sony. Mindshare is just overwhelmingly Sony's game. MS won a single quarter, and then this year came and Sony is just destroying the competition for console sales, shortages or not.

Would passing Sony seem to "obvious"?

To get to the current numbers, nearly all of the votes since it got posted here had to go to the Revolution. Behold the power of Nintendo fans en masse. Or, as I think if them....

Yeah. It tells me that 10% of people taking that survey are really, REALLY dumb.

Are people getting free t-shirts now when they bash nintendo/n-fans now? Nintendo has some of the most popular franchises in gaming and thinking that people who are looking forward to next-gen games based on those franchises are dumb is just, well, DUMB.

What's funny here is that, from your post history, I think you are actually bitter and probably feel bad about this survey now that nintendo passed microsoft. :lol

But why would they be even bothered? It's not like they are gonna buy them anyways unless EA make Mario and Co playable characters in all their games. :lol

Huh? What exactly am I bitter at Nintendo for? Please fill me in.

did you factor in the losses from piracy?

and sony didn't crush nintendo because of the cost of the media. sony had the right games (GT, FF etc.) and the right marketing to capture the majority of gaming consumers.

Those aren't mutually exclusive. A large part of the reason why someone who wasn't the previous market leader had those games exclusively was because they were affordable, on top of just plain possible, on a disc format.

The piracy helped Sony. Same way it helped the XBox. Especially in Europe

They will both gain in absolute terms from nintendo's demise. :)

Dont forget to tell this to your grandsons, i fear that Nintendo will be still around at that time and which will make you a fool..........

Nintendo fans are insane. :lol

I think all hardline fans can be insane at times. But after years on the internet, I feel that one distinction Nintendo fans have is this: They can mobilize into little internet mobs and win almost any poll they wish. Nobody is as dedicated to the cause of poll-victories like Nintendo fans! Well, Final Fantasy VII Cloud fanatics come awfully close...

yeah cuz poll victories matters *rolleyes* it certainly didn't help the abmysal Gamecube sales.

No, that's what makes it a hundred times funnier, you see. For some reason, these little pockets of the internet form these clusterfucks of poll casters to try to alter the results as if it does affect something. It's pretty funny.

eh whatever. Let's change topic. I am not even sure that EA will support Nintendo next gen.

Polls are useless. But that said, PS3 will win this gen, and probably handily. Sony's already secured all important software IPs again. That plus mindshare plue marketshare plus actual momentum means it's gonna be another clean sweep. Really, it's up to the market leader to defeat themselves. Sony's not sitting idly for a year or so and letting MS get market penetration. MS has 6 months to build a considerable lead and steal considerable mindshare. I don't see it happening. And in Japan, it's over before it even starts. In Europe, it's been Sony town there too. At least MS has Australia. Not sure Nintendo can claim any of those territories.

One thing that could help MS is that people like me are considering 360 based on their online strategy and being first out of the box. But my commitment is tentative. It's not like I'm a Team Ninja fan or anything, so what compelling software is there to pull me in? I don't want PC games, I want quality consoles games. Something like Saints Row looks good. It's a GTA clone, but in a good way for a change. If they can secure exclusivity on that, that would be a bonus. Also, they should really try and have a MMORPG ready for launch. A good game like that can create its own sub-culture like Everquest. I don't know if FFXI is gonna be that in its current form. If it got a 360 facelift OTOH...it could be what they're looking for. But for a cheapass like myself, that online plan also hinges on the most important 4 letters, FREE. If it's free, I'm there. I don't know if any online service is worth $50 a year. They need to bundle that cost in with the system. I mean a $300 system that comes with Live. But I'm saying this now. With the right combo of software, I'd be willing to shell out $350 for a 360 and a Live package for a year. But will I be lured in by the PS3 juggernaut looming just on the horizon? Meh, lots of unknowns. I love the generational transition. :) PEACE.

yeah... i'm sure sony and ms love having their games pirated.

It doesn't matter if they love it, the fact is it helps sell the hardware itself. I know a shitload of people who don't own a single original copy of their PS2 games.

Microsoft loses money when an Xbox is sold. :lol

Piracy = More console sales = More 3rd party support = More console sales. Piracy is both good and bad (more bad).

On average $250 per console? Damn. At least Sony makes money on the PS2 hardware now.

The ball got rolling because of initial media costs. That's why games like Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Wayne Gretsky 3D, and other early games ran 80-90 dollars. That is how Sony got their 3rd parties. Even so, the N64 still caught up in sales with the PS1, but when Final Fantasy 7 went to the Playstation exclusively, that was the moment of change.
