So does Cruise has superpowers from the start in this?

Every scene from the previews I've seen involving him is a different kind of crash that would leave him dead or gravely injured in any other movie (Flight, Bus, Car, Hill, Uppercut).
If he doesn't that would be the kind of convenient action scene I loath in modern blockbusters. Too big of an action scene to survive.

Well, it depends on how much it racks. I think they actually planned at least 2/3 movies in that universe before deciding to scrap it or not. Let's see.

I mean, the DC universe began even though the movies were awful, due to good box office results.

He doesn't have superpowers from the start. It's all explained in the movie though.

Well, (HEAVY SPOILERS)
he was left as a . (Every instance of the word god was censored here which was pretty dumb). Essentially he stabbed himself so that his soul would be consumed by the god of death. He then got the two pupil thing and killed the womummy and now has a human side and a 'monstrous' side that will probably be more explored in sequels.

Since he cracked the jewel before he stabbed himself, I took it as he became half of what Amunet was trying to make him. She didn't seem too enthused that she didn't get to do it, so he must have changed his fate in some way by doing it himself.

Or something.

Hm... I hadn't considered the first part but that makes sense.

Honestly I think people are hating on this movie too much. Too much hyperbole (this movie is atrociously bad, worst movie I've ever seem etc.).

Yeah, it's definitely not offensively bad or the worst movie. I didn't actively dislike it, more I didn't really end up caring much throughout. I did like some aspects though, for sure, but it didn't end up hitting for me as much as I'd hoped.

It's not the worst thing in the world, no, but I was hoping it would be better than Tomb of the Dragon Emperor at least.

Turns out, you only need 1/2 of the Krutzman/Orci couple to tell a bad story.

They both suck ass, no matter if they're together or separate.

I refuse to believe there is a bad Tom
Cruise movie. I won't see this and keep believing.

lol, not sure why this is a thing. Tom Cruise doesn't write or direct movies. A great actor can be in bad things. Yeah, he has mostly a solid reputation, but this is Alex Kurtzman we're talking about.

I saw it. It was not as bad as the reviews say but it certainly wasn't good. The humor in it was very oddly placed and the ending sucked.

Overall it was an enjoyable flick, though I have no interest in ever seeing it again.

Movie has always looked terrible imo. Bad casting all around and centralized on some evil four eyed chick destroying the world? Dafuq. I mean remakes or whatever the hell this is supposed to be are supposed to be a fresh take not a rotten one....lol

I'm interested because I'm a fan of the original monster films, but another failed attempt won't be anything new.

Im not a fan of these cinematic universes with years between films. Godzilla and King Kong is one. Marvel has a huge film out each year and they plug right in to the MCU. Even if this mummy film was a success, the next universe film isn't scheduled until 2019.

That movie is my go-to "trailers that make a bad movie look good" example. One of my most memorable theatrical let-downs. Hell, the opening voice over was bad enough to kill my excitement and give me a sinking feeling.

But at least that story has a happy ending. I'd excitedly asked a girl to see it with me, but she declined. By the time it hit video, she'd reconsidered. And since I'd never told her it sucked, her way of expressing interest in me was to buy me the movie on DVD. We dated for a while. I owe that to the Mummy. I can't help but think if she'd gone to the theater with me, I'd never have heard from her again. :p

I didnt hate this... some really cliche stuff at points but I felt they also did some unexpected things too.
Mummies were genuinely creepy at points as well.

Okay movie. The reviews made it seem way worse. Made me wish we had Tom as Nathan Drake, and that never occurred to me. Would have been a better movie with a more capable director.

Just saw it, it was fun and silly. Worth a watch.

The reviews are pretty overblown, its a lot better than that recent King Arthur movie for example.

While this movie wasn't the worst movie ever as there are many other movies worse than it, it was so damn horrible. I hated a lot of things about this piece of trash, and it's a shame because I liked all of the trailers. The trailers looked like it would be decent, but no, the movie is bad!

This is one movie I would never want to watch ever again. The dialog, acting and humor were terrible at points, and the story and pacing were not very good, plus the finale is dreadful. I've never been so disappointed in a movie in a long time!

This is easily one of the worst movies I've seen this year!

Not absolutely horrible but it definitely needed more of a low key horror angle to really sell it. As it is, it reeks of execs looking at the Marvel and DC extended universe and copy pasting their style and scope without really appreciating the IPs theyve got and how best to manage them.

Still too early to call this universe dead yet?

All this universe needs is one good movie and it'll survive. Consider that Dracula Untold was the secret first film in the series. Maybe the Hunchback of Notre Dame action movie will save it. Worked with Wonder Woman.

Dayum. Tom Cruise output is normally so solid too.

The script most actors agree to goes through a lot of changes after they've signed onto the movie and as stuckman pointed out the mummy's script was written and rewritten by far too many people for the movie to be good. Big studio interference led to a directionless movie yet again.

All the DC movies performed clearly better than Mummy. There was demand.

However, in this particular instance, it was Tom Cruise that did the interference. His writers rewrite the movie to better fit his ideas and strong armed the inexperienced director to do his stuff; and the studio went along with it because he's Tom Cruise.

I saw this movie last night.

It was plain stupid and awful throughout. This was a film spinning too many plates, that didn't know what story it wanted to tell, and what tone to take.

It's just a bad movie that made me appreciate the 1999 version more for what it was.
